To just not FEEL that overweight??

TheHouseOnBellSt · 06/07/2015 13:20

I'm one stone overweight. That's quite a lot...but I look in the mirror and think "I don't look fat!"

But I must be!

I'm a size 14 on the bottom and a 12 on top..5.7 and 13 stones.

Try putting 6 1kg bags of sugar into a bag or box and carry them around for a bit. That will put into perspective how much a stone is.

Rachie1986 · 06/07/2015 17:22

Sometimes when I look back at photos, I see how I really looked but I couldn't see it at the time.

Runningupthathill82 · 06/07/2015 17:58

Totally agree, howsithanging.

RunningJumpingClimbingTrees · 06/07/2015 17:58

I'm 5ft10 and 13st 8 lbs. I gave birth 9 months ago and breast fed and lost weight down to what I am now then got complacent and put a stone back on. I am now eating less (breastfeeding is all well and good for extra calories but I was over egging the pudding) and try to run two or three times a week and skipping during nap time. I'm a size 14 top and 16 bottom but I still have about a stone and a half to go to a weight I feel healthy at.

RunningJumpingClimbingTrees · 06/07/2015 18:01

I should add skipping is an amazing fat burner and you only need to do 5 minutes a day....If your pelvic floor can take it I thoroughly recommend it.
The stone I have lost has been over about 6 or 7 weeks and now am slowing down to about 1lb a week but that's fine I want it to stay off.

Starbrite00 · 06/07/2015 18:05

TheHouseofBellSt
.. I'm on 27 points plus extra 14 daily for feeding, they also give you 49 points for treats.
I'm eating more now I'm on.ww buy I think its because of having a baby and breastfeeding I didn't have much time to cook so I was doing I lot of snacking on junk.

Starbrite00 · 06/07/2015 18:10

Its also nor about calories.
With WW bananas are actually zero points so you can eat as much of fruit and veg as you like, very few veg is pointed, that's how I bulk up my meals.
The high points is foods with high carbs, for example a large jack potato would be 7-10 points.

Runningupthathill82 · 06/07/2015 18:10

Runningjumping - I would LOVE to be able to skip again! Sadly, the forceps birth put an end to that. And squat jumps. Downhill fell running can also be tricky.
My circuits classes are now fraught with worry over how I can avoid certain exercises without having to explain myself to the trainer!

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 06/07/2015 18:19

I'm 5'7", at 13st I would feel very overweight, personally, but we all carry weight differently. Mate is an inch shorter than me and look hollowed out and gaunt if she drops below 10st. [shrug]

The heaviest I have been is around 11 and that was a small 14 on me, but I don't carry weight well, my body shape is just not built for it (small wrists, ankles and narrow hips). I am currently 8st 8lbs. I am most comfortable and hover between 8st 5lb and 8st 9lbs.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 06/07/2015 18:20

Looks

Bluepetal1 · 06/07/2015 18:23

I'm 5ft 7 and currently 13st, I was 14.3 this time last year. Slow slow progress , I think I look ok and I carry weight ok but then I look at a photo and I think I am still very fat. Size 14 mainly fits me now but I think a size 14 now is really a 16 in lots of shops.

Anyway I have been very disciplined but today for some reason I'm feeling peckish and I opened a big bag of Doritos. I have eaten a large fistful probably and I opened this thread and it has given me the motivation to empty them in the bin which I have now done. So thank you op.

ToysRLuv · 06/07/2015 18:56

Gosh, I am about 11st 2 and a size 14. I am sedentary atm, though, so a bit flabby. Can see my ribs a bit, and have a lean face, hands and shoulders. Smallish boobs. Most of the weight is in my thighs and bum. I aim to tone up and lose a couple of pounds to bring me to a 12-14.

ToysRLuv · 06/07/2015 18:58

I wonder if we talk about sizes the same, sometimes. I can't abide tight clothes, so will veer towards a 14 even if I did fit a 12.

leedy · 06/07/2015 19:15

I think some people are also just denser than others (stop sniggering down the back) - I'm big-boned, broad-shouldered, build muscle like nobody's business, and generally weigh very heavy for my dress size. I don't think I've been below the middle of the recommended weight range for my height since I was a skinny size 8 teenager with no boobs and I remember a flatmate of mine was doing Weight Watchers and getting the magazine - I was frequently the size of the people in the "after" picture and the weight of their "before" picture.

Currently similar height/weight/size to the OP and while yes, I would like to lose a few kilos to fit into my size 12 jeans/reduce my arse (trying to up my cycling and swimming and reduce my sugar intake ATM) I don't think I'm humungously overweight.

TheHouseOnBellSt · 07/07/2015 08:37

Toys I'm not wearing my 14s in a tight way....they fit well...there is a bit of room in my 14 jeans....same with tops. A 12 is too tight though.

TalkinPeace · 07/07/2015 08:42

But whose size 14?
Just that this is my real bugbear with clothes sizes
they are so incredibly variable

I vary between a childs age 12 and an adult size 10 depending on where I shop .... pic on profile shows what size I really am

leedy · 07/07/2015 09:06

Yes, agree that clothes sizes are ridiculously variable (even within brands - I have ostensibly the same style of Gap shorts in 3 sizes, all of which fit) but on average a 14 will fit me from most brands, eg Boden, Cos, H&M. I'm sometimes a 12 in Toast but a lot of their stuff is massive. I'm pretty sure the OP and I aren't just a 14 because of only wearing brands with vanity sizing or because we're squeezing ourselves into clothes, there's just a huge variety in what weight people are at a particular size, even if they're the same height. As I said, I seem to be very dense...

TheHouseOnBellSt · 07/07/2015 09:08

I fit 14 in most shops...I haven't yet found anything that didn't fit me and was labelled at 14. I think it's the variation in body types which make sizing hard....one person might be too tall....another too broad or narrow for a certain size.

a2011x · 07/07/2015 09:13

I got up to 16 stone and still thought I didnt look big at all. It was like the opposite to those who are very skinny and believe they are big. I couldn't believe it in pictures and was convinced it was a bad picture every time. I think its because I am generally surrounded by people bigger than me and just because I was the smallest didn't mean I was small. I always stood close to the mirror but I found myself in a full length mirror in Primark and my god I was shocked! Had been looking at myself in a flattering way for so long I had no idea how I really looked. Imagine how you might feel at a lower weight and you decide if you wish to lose weight. Its nice that you have a nice outlook and as long as you are happy that is all that matters, along with health.

SlaggyIsland · 07/07/2015 09:22

I'm 5 6, currently weigh about 11 St 9 and wear a size 8/10 on top (depending on which shop) and a 12/14 bottom.
I am very pear shaped. The discrepancy between my hips and my waist is extreme.
I don't feel big but I am trying to lose about another stone to get my hips a bit smaller.

sanfairyanne · 07/07/2015 09:26

i dont feel overweight either. i have fat i could lose but its pretty well distributed and i am hourglass shape so is all tits n arse Smile . being fit is my goal rather than being slim. i'm past worrying about weight.
try weight lifting - really good for your bones and tones you up

SouthWestmom · 07/07/2015 09:40

Im five seven and about nine stone and a definite ten - can't squeeze into an eight any more in most places.
Have a big tummy and thighs whereas the rest of me is small.
Size only goes so far when looking at health

leedy · 07/07/2015 10:39

And that's the different weights at different sizes thing - at five seven I have literally never been 9 stone as an adult, at 9.5 stone I think I was a small size 8.
