TheHouseOnBellSt · 06/07/2015 13:20

I'm one stone overweight. That's quite a lot...but I look in the mirror and think "I don't look fat!"

But I must be!

I'm a size 14 on the bottom and a 12 on top..5.7 and 13 stones.

i'm 5'7 (and a half!!) and am just over 13, i joined SW 8 weeks ago and have come down by 8lbs (to the just over 13) and i dont feel any different to 2 months ago, i feel horribly chubby, look gross in photos -

Naty1 · 06/07/2015 15:57

Sounds like up to 3 bananas a day -300calories just in that.
i think they may be high gi too.
Not sure how many calories in the drinks but 2 sugars in each could really add up.

Try my fitness pal as its really good to see about the calories and carb to protein balance.

Im 5'4 just over 11st (9mths pg)
Im usually 8st 10 with pcos and under active thyroid.
I must have a large frame as im a size 10 bottom and at least 12 top. Waist could well be impacted by the pcos.

chosenone · 06/07/2015 16:05

I felt like this until recently. I had some photos taken of me at an annual event and thought 'hang on i don't look as thin as last year ' so i weighed myself and i was a stone heavier ! Im 5 ft 8 and wear a 14 all over. Last year I was 12 stone 3, im now 13 stone 3! My clothes all still fit as i put it on all over and maintain my waist. The photos revealed more chin baggage and extra bingo wings Sad the camera rarely lies. Clothing does!

TalkinPeace · 06/07/2015 16:06

we've got the extremely underweight skinny models/celebrities etc. that are portrayed as having the 'right' body

I always find this comment interesting - because most of the "slebs" over about 30 are not underweight - they are a healthy weight
its everybody else who has forgotten what healthy lean bodies look like.

OP
Cut out the sugar in your tea and the snacks and you'll get your intake back under your TDEE and thus where you want to be.

TheHouseOnBellSt · 06/07/2015 16:07

I don't eat 3 bananas a day....I suppose my list was misleading. Some mornings I don't have one at all.

What's your blood lipid profile. Your bone density mass, your thyroid function, your liver function? Have you got cholesterol coating your arteries?

You can be skinny as a wafer, but if you lay down cholesterol in your arteries you are at a much higher risk of cardiac arrest than if you're "slim".

It's all about your blood cholesterol, your arterial walls, your bone density, your resting heart rate and your blood pressure. A few stone here or there won't make a difference if you are genetically programmed to lay down cholesterol.
It's called slim on the outside, fat on the inside disease where thin people think they're healthier cos they're a size 12 or have a 30" waist for men, but it's often not the way.

Have all these health indicators checked OP, and then maybe try fasting one or two days a week with 500 cals 5:2 if you want to shed a few pounds without noticing.

Bunbaker · 06/07/2015 16:12

"I'm a size 14 on the bottom and a 12 on top..5.7 and 13 stones."

I am the same height as you and weigh 9 st 7 and am slim, not skinny. 10 top (no boobs Sad) and 12 bottom.

fredabear · 06/07/2015 16:18

I am the same height and at 13st I didn't think I looked overweight, then I lost 2 stone 5 yrs ago and realised how overweight I'd been. I am now within acceptable range, but have to work at keeping it there. Its worth it. I've only dropped one dress size but well worth it health wise.

Wishful80sMontage · 06/07/2015 16:19

I'm 5.10 and currently 12.8 (normally 11 stone) I feel huge really really big but years ago I was nearly 17 stone and thought I looked fine- it's really all in your mindset to some extent

TalkinPeace · 06/07/2015 16:19

Bellst
Look yourself up on here
www.cockeyed.com/photos/bodies/heightweight.html

Clothes sizes area really bad guide because they are
(a) very inconsistent between shops
(b) have expanded significantly over the last 30 years - a 12 today was a 16 in 1970

Bunbaker · 06/07/2015 16:22

If I weighed 13 stone I would look like the back of a bus. Even 12 stone is overweight at 5'7".

According to this chart your maximum weight should be 11st 7 lb.

Runningupthathill82 · 06/07/2015 16:24

I recently lost weight, going from a bmi of 24 and a size 12 to a bmi of 21 and a size 8/10.
I thought I looked ok before - but now, looking back at old pictures, I realise I look so much better now.

Problem is, we're surrounded by big people all the time. People's ideas of "healthy" are so skewed that it's not surprising that those who are a size 14 or 16 may not think themselves to be overweight, even when the scales say otherwise.
If you want to lose weight, OP, I'd recommend MFP for a proper look at what you really eat and the calories it contains. It really worked for me.

LegoComplex · 06/07/2015 16:24

i'm the same height as you and was 13 stone after my recent pregnancy. Tbh I felt horrific and way too heavy.. but minf you iwas really unfit which didn't help, if you're fit and have good muscle mass i expect you look/feel wonderful Smile I've gone down to almost 11 stone now after a hell of a lot of sweat and pain and am feeling better, but if you're active and eating healthy then i wouldn't worry too much.

VolumniaDedlock · 06/07/2015 16:28

I think you need to be careful with the BMI thing when you're tall - IMO we tall people do hide our spare weight better on the whole, but we're no healthier for it

I am 12 st at 5'9 and I feel like a whale even though my BMI just scrapes under 25 (24.99 recurring). I could lose 2.5st and still be well within the guidelines for a healthy BMI, and really that's where my weight should be.

TheHouseOnBellSt · 06/07/2015 16:29

Talkin what a great site! I see the women in my height and weight range definitely look "solid". Not fat exactly but quite big all the same....I'm very like one of them too....and looking at her I see she'd look better a stone lighter!

That site doesn't work properly for me. When I click on an image a different one pops up.

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 06/07/2015 16:33

Until I fell pregnant (currently), I usually floated between 11.5 and 12 stone, at 5'7. I was usually a 14 bottom, 12-14 top, carrying mostly in my chest, bum and thighs. Generally had a flat stomach though, just a bit 'squishy' around the hips. I once dropped to under 11 stone, and everyone said I looked ill, should put an extra stone on, etc. I think everyone has a 'natural balance', even if the scales don't agree, mine is certainly over 11 and under 12 stone. Anything more, I do look fat, my skin starts looking horrid as well, generally look unhealthy.

TheHouseOnBellSt · 06/07/2015 16:37

Bun* yes bt scroll down and they're all there.

Just weighed myself next door and have lost since I last weighed in on Wednesday! I'm now 12. 10!

bunbaker
there are multiple images for each height and weight - so you can find people your height and weight and age and frame ....

there are also a couple that are one lady charting her weight loss (she's about 5'3" I think)

Bunbaker · 06/07/2015 16:42

Thanks. I found them.

I doubt I will ever be properly skinny
Good.
Aim for lean not skinny.
Lean and toned is healthy.
Skinny rarely is.

ivykaty44 · 06/07/2015 16:54

I'm 5f7 and was not 13 stone when I had my babies who were both over 9lb

To be honest I felt fat at 11 stone and my size 14 clothes were tight - how on earth do you get in size 14 at two stone more than that

I lost weight as I felt uncomfortable and am now back to 10 stone 4 which is much more comfortable in clotning

It's fascinating how people carry their weight differently. I'm 5ft 9 and size 12 top, 14 bottom but I'm only 10 stone 7. I can look quite large in photos. Is that because of my fat/ muscle ratio? I have big boobs and thighs by fairly small everywhere else. Would love to be a size 12 all over but I just don't think my body is designed for it!
