Crocs

I have to wear them most of the time as had part of my foot amputated and they are the most comfortable and almost the only thing I can wear, and I think this is the case for many people who wear them. Tbh I do not like them and I do get the point that people find them ugly. But my problem is the continuous comments on FB or magazines about how awful they are, and fit only for children's entertainers or OAP's. It really spoils my day when I then have to pick my child up from school feeling self conscious and hoping I am not being judged. I just wish people would be more sensitive as I have seen these posts from 'friends' who know I have little choice. FWIW I dream about being able to wear heels again and dress up, but its just not possible. AIBU to wish that people would stop the Croc hating?

Any clothing that you can put in the dishwasher is a winner in my book.

RachelRagged · 06/07/2015 12:55

I had the mick took out of me often when I had crocs , True they aren't the prettiest thing in the world but due to cramps I often got in feet they were the only one#s wide enough and comfy enough to wear

I no longer have them but they served their purpose for me perfectly .

TruJay · 06/07/2015 12:57

I really don't understand the hate towards crocs either. I have a pair I use as house/garden shoes and they're fab. They're so comfy and when at home I have them on all the time, great when moping the floor, pegging washing out etc.
I have worn them for popping over to pils who live about 5 min walk away and for nipping down to the shop too.
I haven't worn them properly out and about but that's because they don't really go with my clothes and I love wearing my converse when out but I don't understand people judging those that do, weird!

SquinkiesRule · 06/07/2015 12:58

I'd get the wildest colours I could if I was you OP, it's like thumbing your nose at them.
I've been debating getting some for my holiday for poolside.

Yes. It's a non-issue.

Alwaysreadingonthetrain · 06/07/2015 13:01

I have these and I love them. They're so comfortable, it's like walking on air: www.johnlewis.com/crocs-huarache-women's-flat-sandals-blue/p2049188

Thank you all so much. I have about 5 pairs of the clog style crocs as I bought several just after my op and haven't looked at their site since. But wow how the styles have come on so thanks for the heads up. I have just ordered a pair of the sandals for my holiday on Wednesday (thank goodness for Amazon Prime!) and I am heartened to hear how many of you love them. I do challenge people when they post but to be honest I suspect that they just don't think and I tend to avoid many social events as its just not the same having to wear clumpy footwear. Once wore a pair under an evening gown at the Royal Albert Hall, never again!

Don't do hello kitty ones in my size

: (

Baddz · 06/07/2015 13:07

Bloody love my crocs.
Most comfy shoe ever.
And they look soooo cute on kids.
Don't let the idiots get you down.

AnnaFiveTowns · 06/07/2015 13:15

I too laughed at Crocs when they first came out. But then I tried a pair on and my feet thought they'd died and gone to shoe heaven! I wear them a lot - and get loads of stick for it but, quite frankly, I couldn't give a damn! I actually even don't mind how they look now and often go for bright colours. Seriously, let people judge. I judge those that wear uncomfortable high heels; I think they must be pretty shallow to hobble around in uncomfortable shoes all day so I'm really not arsed if they judge me for wearing "ugly" shoes! Grin

Sgtmajormummy · 06/07/2015 13:18

We all wear Crocs as slippers- in a flat so they don't disturb the neighbours (ILs' upstairs neighbours wore Scholl's for decades and they were not on speaking terms!), all they need is a quick scrub and they're clean!

I also have the slingback ones for beach holidays but they're not comfortable over long distances. Wetness issues...
This year I bought some Skechers Go Walk with elastic over the instep. I'd definitely recommend them OP.

No Croc bashing here!

AnnaFiveTowns · 06/07/2015 13:18

By the way, OP,have you tried Fitflops? They're pretty damn comfy too, if you're able to wear them; and they don't seem to attract quite the same level of vitriol.

HRHLadyFarquhar · 06/07/2015 13:21

Why not go to etsy and buy some jibbitz these, for example, amuse me.

There comes a point where the best route is to not only wear whatever it is but to FLAUNT it!

fourquenelles · 06/07/2015 13:23

I have had my bright pink Crocs for five years now and wear them all through the summer. I have short, fat, square feet and Crocs are comfortable beyond compare. I don't care what other people think.

boardblonde · 06/07/2015 13:28

I agree, my Mom sister and daughter have club foot and very wide feet. Crocs are some of the only shoes they can wear that are comfortable. People have made snide comments to my Mom about them but they are becoming more popular now. I am quite happy to educate ignorant people when they make comments!

SnapesCapes · 06/07/2015 13:31

The DCs each have a pair for playing in the garden, they practically live in them through summer months including taking them to the beach. It's true they're not beautiful, but neither are Birkenstocks and I live in those buggers since discovering them last summer!

If people comment, tell them the truth, that actually you have far more pressing issues than whether they like your shoes or not.

SistersofPercy · 06/07/2015 13:47

I have red mickey mouse ones from Disneyland. Comfiest. Things. Ever.

I'll only wear them on holiday or in the house though as I'm self conscious of them.

Goshthatsspicy · 06/07/2015 13:59

I'm sorry, your footwear has been so openly dissed. Here, particularly. I don't have any, but think they are absolutely fine :)
I can't see why they are ridiculed, when some women float around in leggings - that give away what they ate for lunch!

rookiemere · 06/07/2015 14:11

Actually I have to say that in this hot weather, the footwear that I have noticed and disapproved of is ladies wearing stupid high heels that they struggle to walk in and are probably sweaty when it's warm as well. Crocs wouldn't be on my radar at all.

geekymommy · 06/07/2015 14:20

I wear Crocs. I gave up on fashion at around age 16, so unless I'm going to work I don't much care what anybody thinks about what I'm wearing. I hope to use the threat of going out in public in my Crocs (and a science-geeky T shirt) to keep DD in line when she is a teenager.

LoisEinhorn · 06/07/2015 14:25

I live in my Croc Scutes all summer. Don't care what anyone thinks!

hellsandwich · 06/07/2015 14:55

I've got some Jayna crocs. They make my feet smell something awful unless I wear them with socks, which doesn't quite look right. Super comfy though but. Wear them with pride op.

I have a pair of bright pink crocs that I wear around the house/garden. Love them & don't care what anyone says!

TheHormonalHooker · 06/07/2015 15:36

I've got a pair of sea green ones that I wear for going into the garden. Everytime I put them on I think they're the comfiest shoes I own. DH has a black pair and DS2 wears them when he's not here, for slobbing around the garden. He always says how comfy they are. He's starting his nurse training in September, I said he can't go far wrong than to get a pair of Crocs for his shifts.
