To not have taken a handbag!

I attended a training course, during this the trainer asked everyone to pick up their handbags (moving and handling course) and started giving the men bags! I said can I have one too, as I didn't take a handbag with me! The trainer asked but where do you keep all your womans stuff?? I laughed as I thought it was a joke, but he was serious and I mumbled something about having pockets! AIBU not to take handbags where ever I go? What womans stuff do I need? I obviously do use a handbag but not everyday? I was being picked up and dropped off by my partner, lunch was provided, so didn't really need anything. Very relaxed training venue, so was able to wear non work clothes! (If that makes a difference)

Little Miss Introvert, I don't carry Sanpro because I use a mooncup. I suppose if my period was due and I was going to be out for hours/all day I might throw a lillet in my pocket or bag just in case but otherwise I'd just put my mooncup in at home then job done, nothing to carry.

I buy clothes with pockets, and the minimum is wallet, keys and phone (I have a small useful phone not an i-brick). So I can often go out bagless.

if I am out for the day I have a rucksack, better for my back and easier than a stupid fussy handbag. It contains:

the above
a bottle of water
small kit of meds (painkillers etc)
eye drops (I wear lenses)
comb

what else do I need?

YANBU and as a moving and handling trainer he should have been pleased that you weren't in possession of a handbag (normally over full, too heavy and mean that weight is unevenly distributed).

I always have my handbag! I even took it on a driving lesson the other day, which made even me go Hmm but then I did need my glasses, diary to book the next lesson, purse to pay the instructor, keys and phone so I by the time I take all that out, I may as well take the whole bag!

I always carry diary, glasses, sunglasses, phone, ipod, keys, mirror, far too many different types of lip balm/gloss, handcream, reusable shopping bag, tampons/towels, hand wipes, hand gel, bus pass for me, bus pass for DS, work pass, painkillers, Rennies, plasters, tissues, several pens, several boxes of TicTacs, gum, emery board, suncream, small notebook.

I am the person that everyone at work comes to if they need a painkiller or emery board etc as they know I am well stocked. It's no wonder that I usually have a bad back though...

I don't use a handbag.

If I'm going out by myself everything goes in my pockets. (I only generally carry purse, keys, phone)

If I'm going to work, everything goes in my laptop bag.

If I'm going out with dd2 then my stuff goes in my pockets and I carry a small backpack with snacks, drinks, etc for dd2. I much preferred it when it was a changing bag on the back of the buggy, but she's a bit big for that now.

I couldn't envisage going anywhere without my handbag.
I use a Vera Bradley as it has loads of zipped pockets and they come in such beautiful colours. I prefer the bowler style.

As well as keys, purse, phone cards. I have one pocket with coupons, gift cards, loyalty cards
Another has several pendulums
Another crystals and orgonite
Then there's lavender oil. Always carry that for burns, bites, sunburn or just for its calming effect
Ainsworths Bach rescue remedy
Peppermint oil for a bit of indigestion and a small bag of bicarbonate of soda for same reason
Three pairs of reading glasses and sun glasses
Ear plugs. Sometimes films in the cinema are just too noisy
Remedies
Electrolyte stamina powders
Usual hair grips, pony tail bands
2 lipsticks
Lip balm
Stamps
Library cards
Hairbrush and mirror combined
Couple of pens and marker pen
Tape measure
Spare pair of generic earrings

Ive probably forgotten some stuff but the important stuff is in there. A night out bag is phone, money and that's it.

Dowser · 30/06/2015 12:42

I'm quite surprised by how many don't carry a bag. Oh yes forgot nail files.

TheMaddHugger · 30/06/2015 12:54

I have never used a handbag since I got married 43 years ago as my DH thought I would have the car keys, fags, sunglasses and anything else he had with him but I wouldn't have anything of mine in it, he soon learnt to put his stuff in his pockets so I left my handbag at home. When the kids arrived I brought a large rucksack that I always made him have when we all went out. The only bag I own came from my DD and is a small shopping bag which I use when I go to hospital appointments to carry a drink because I am usually there for hours but there is nowhere to buy anything. My DH wears a handknitted cardigan with pockets on the inside to put his wallet, car keys and phone in. He calls the pockets his anti-mugging pockets but then at 29 stone and 6ft 4 inches muggers might think twice in case he fell on them.

ASettlerOfCatan · 30/06/2015 14:05

Purse keys phone. If I can get them in pockets I do. Hate handbags.

HopelesslyDevotedToShoes · 30/06/2015 14:15

I have... a utility belt Grin

it contains my purse, phone, keys, plasters, fold up shopping bag, spare bobble, lipstick, compact mirror and various random bits I accumulate (at present a shell and a sticker Grin)

if I need anything more than these items I have a backpack, I don't even own a handbag Blush
