To not have taken a handbag!

LittleMissCalamity · 28/06/2015 21:09

I attended a training course, during this the trainer asked everyone to pick up their handbags (moving and handling course) and started giving the men bags! I said can I have one too, as I didn't take a handbag with me! The trainer asked but where do you keep all your womans stuff?? I laughed as I thought it was a joke, but he was serious and I mumbled something about having pockets! AIBU not to take handbags where ever I go? What womans stuff do I need? I obviously do use a handbag but not everyday? I was being picked up and dropped off by my partner, lunch was provided, so didn't really need anything. Very relaxed training venue, so was able to wear non work clothes! (If that makes a difference)

Yanbu and the trainer was a bit of a tit to comment.

But I do carry a bag with me which usually contains,
A comb,
A hair band,
A plaster,
Hand gel,
phone,
Cards and a couple of £notes,
Keys,
Small make up bag with make up bits,
Packet of nakd coconut bites
Ibuprofen
Lip balm
Random tissue.

Whew! That's loads. I'm trying to stop carrying so much tbh. I need the ibuprofen, water and the snack for my CFS and obviously need keys, money and phone. I could carry all of that in pockets and hands.

I don't use a handbag either. I take phone and keys to work. If I will need money I take my small purse. I find my capacious bra quite useful for carrying keys in Grin.

hotfuzzra · 29/06/2015 04:58

I used to be exactly like this. I used to keep several bank cards and my DL in my warrant card with some notes, coins in my pocket, phone in my back pocket, key in my pocket. If I was wearing a skirt (ha) or dress (haha) I'd use a handbag and end up taking loads of stuff I didn't need.
Since I've had DC I now use a backpack as my change bag and have so much crap that I know I don't need but might one day so can't take it out!

BathshebaDarkstone · 29/06/2015 05:09

I never carry a handbag. I really should at the moment as I'm wearing dresses (no pockets ). Grin

NRomanoff · 29/06/2015 06:32

I have 2 that I use regulary.

1 is my gym bag. Has my gloves, water bottle, towel , programmes, hand gel, phone and keys.

My other bage has a bit of make up, hand gel, phone, tampons, usually a toy in there that ds has asked me to hold and never taken back, keys.

I never go anywhere with put my purse and move it back and forth from my gym bag to my normal bag.

Skiingmaniac · 29/06/2015 06:37

No hand bag here either!
Keys and purse in hand
Phone in pocket.

contractor6 · 29/06/2015 07:05

Yanbu, pre pregnancy casual days, phone and money in pockets and off I went! Love the freedom (men get away with it more due to always having clothes with pockets

Notasinglefuckwasgiven · 29/06/2015 08:53

Yep I'm a phone and wallet girl. Hate carrying a bag if I can avoid it

WalterShite · 29/06/2015 08:59

I take a bag, everywhere. I live in the arse end of no-where so I like to have stuff to hand as its not always possible to pop to a shop and get something or to run home for it. In my handbag, most days are;

Keys- car and house
Phone
Ipod/earbuds
Purse/money/bankcards
Perfume
Book
Hairbrush
Wipes
Hayfever pills and paracetamol
Bottle of water

I used to hate going out with my friend who never took a bag but dumped all her crap in mine, but as long as you don't do that YANBU. If you don't carry a lot of stuff there is no point in carting an empty bag about with you.

TorrAlexandra · 29/06/2015 09:17

I'm an everything-but-the-kitchen-sink type:

Purse
Phone
Ipad
Oyster
Ipod & earphones
mini deodorant
IBS tablets
pen
tissues
antihistamines
make up
pair of earrings
chewing gum
lip balm
eye drops
mini tangle teaser hairbrush
and about a million old receipts!

RhiWrites · 29/06/2015 09:43

I have the entire contents of the known world in mine.

Does it look dark to you? That's because you're all in there as well somewhere underneath the iPad and pencil case.

flora717 · 29/06/2015 10:06

No handbag. Seriously, i have a phone case with space for some change and my bank cards. My keys go in a pocket.
If I need anything else then i use a backpack for that.

Stinchcombebabycafe · 29/06/2015 17:25

years ago I'd have a small wallet in one pocket, small phone in another, and keys clipped on jeans belt tags. Now I have a shoulder bag with smartphone, purse, wallet, specs, latex-free gloves, assorted medicines, pens, notebook, tissues, store vouchers, scraps of fabric I want to match up, a fork, a mini torch, my shopping list, Freegle and babycafe cards - oh, and my keys, except last week, when I lost them

LittleMissIntrovert · 29/06/2015 17:44

I carry the world in my handbag, I like to be prepared! I carry far to much stuff around.

Can I ask a nosy question? Feel free to tell me to mind my own business Grin if you don't have a handbag how do you carry San pro?

toomuchtooold · 29/06/2015 17:50

What's weird with the whole situation is the expectation that the women will need a bag and the men not. When I'm not with the kids my bag contains purse, keys, bottle of water, phone, mp3 player and kindle (I usually have a bit of a commute, so...) none of those things is a woman only thing.

Girlwhowearsglasses · 29/06/2015 18:14

I carry a (small) bag. When I was a teenager in the nineties and used to go out into (small provincial) town with friends it was incredibly frowned upon to carry any kind of bag. No idea why- I was once laughed at (still resentful) for having a very small bag Hmm. We all had to wear jeans and shirts/t shirts. You could just about get away with a tasseled indie skirt, but not if you wanted to go in the trendy pub, for which Levi's 501s were uniform.

Samtheant · 29/06/2015 19:45

There's no rule that says everyone has to carry a bag just because they have a vagina, what a tit!
I usually carry a small cross body bag or a small backpack, but that's only because I've got a couple of little kids and need somewhere to stash the spare nappy, wipes, toys etc.
If I go out without the kids, I just put my wallet, phone and keys in my coat or trouser pockets.

ToysRLuv · 29/06/2015 19:52

Depending on where I am going, I often go out without my phone or money, or the keys even. DH despairs.

TeenAndTween · 29/06/2015 19:54

I can't believe the junk some of you carry around. Grin

Most of the year I don't have a bag, stuff goes in trouser or coat pockets.
In the height of summer I do need a small backpack bag.

If it is a day out with the kids type of thing then we need a rucksack anyway.

Vickisuli · 30/06/2015 10:48

The only things I always have with me are phone, keys, purse. In the winter I often put these into my coat pockets, especially fleece ones that zip up, rather than take a bag. My summer clothes don't have big enough or suitable pockets so I tend to use a bag then.

I definitely don't carry tons of stuff around though. Maybe at a push, I would have a lipsalve, purse, phone, keys, sunglasses (though more likely on my head), and cereal bars for the kids.

I am always amazed at people that have plasters and wipes with them at all times. I was never that organised even when the kids were babies, I think there were times I went out with just a nappy shoved in a handbag...
