WIBU to keep my son off school for this?

So I had a hairdresser appointment this morning for 9.30. I desperately needed a cut and colour before going on holiday next week.

Unfortunately my dd was sick at 7.30am...although she seemed fine afterwards. This meant I had to keep her off school.
Given that the chances of getting another appointment in time for the hols was zero, was I bu to call in a sicky for my eldest son (14) this morning to watch her while I kept the appointment I had? Fridays are a half day at school anyway here.

My hair is looking great now but I don't know if I did the right thing.
What would you have done?

The oddest thing about this to me is why someone would need a haircut to go on holiday. Why do you need to look good on holiday? You don't know anyone! And noone you know will see what you looked like because they weren't there.

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/06/2015 19:44

Maybe because when you look like shit you feel like shit. hard to enjoy a holiday them.

PiperChapstick · 26/06/2015 19:44

for pictures BoyScout duh

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 26/06/2015 19:45

Well if you can't look nice on your holiday when can you?

ghostyslovesheep · 26/06/2015 19:46

maybe because looking nice is nice for YOU not anyone else

I never go away unless I am waxed, buffed and trimmed (top and bottom) Grin not because I wish to look good for anyone but because I like it

PiperChapstick · 26/06/2015 19:46

The audacity of some fucking women who want to look nice

You're not a real woman until you have roots down to your ears, chuck all your make up out and give up moisturising, actually draw bags under your eyes every day and never iron your (baggy and boring) clothes.

You may look like shit but there's no better smell than a burning martyr

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/06/2015 19:46

Well really your meant to cancel your holiday. what with assuming your kids going to be sick on the plane and all...

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 26/06/2015 19:47

I have that bit more time whilst on holiday to make myself look nice.

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/06/2015 19:48

piper

I sent you that photo of me in good faith. you werent supposed to post about it as a model for others AngryWink

ghostyslovesheep · 26/06/2015 19:48

really you should have booked 5 separate holidays just in case you had to cancel one or two

YouTheCat · 26/06/2015 19:49

Piper, I can plait my leg hair.

PiperChapstick · 26/06/2015 19:49

Mrs using holiday time to concentrate on yourself? How selfish. There's so much more martyring you could do, like getting up at 6am to iron beach towels or painstakingly pick the grains of sand out of everything that was at the beach.

Some people are just all about themselves

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/06/2015 19:49

And loose all the deposits cos the notice period is the same regardless of whether you boom a month or 6 months in advance

PiperChapstick · 26/06/2015 19:50

YoutheCat too right as well. Why shave your legs when you can spend that valuable 10 minutes telling your child how important school is and reciting the Greek alphabet with them

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 26/06/2015 19:51

piper

I know, I am a horrible, horrible person. Utterly selfish.

Wink
BoyScout · 26/06/2015 19:53

I understand the concept of looking nice. I understand the concept of it being for yourself.

I don't understand why you need to look nicer-than-normal for a holiday.

Fantoosh · 26/06/2015 19:53

I am actually cracking up here. Thank you some of you. You are very funny people indeed. Grin

Fantoosh, an acquaintance of.mine can top that. She's leaving her DD with DD's uncle FOR A WHOLE THREE days to go on holiday. Fucking mums and their needing breaks.

Fantoosh · 26/06/2015 19:59

The hair was badly needing doing anyway ffs...I get my short hair cut and coloured approx every eight weeks. It had maybe been 10 weeks since the last time, so it was looking really ratty. It just so happened that the salon was busy for the next two weeks and I definitely wanted it done before going on holiday because it looked shit!

Does that help those who don't understand how a hairstyle works?

3 DAYS? in the care of a responsible adultShock

the selfish wenche

lampshady · 26/06/2015 20:05

I KNOW! What makes it worse if that she adores her uncle and he adores her and THEY HAVE SO MUCH FUN TOGETHER. sickening.

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/06/2015 20:05

I'm appalled.

PiperChapstick · 26/06/2015 20:05

If you understand the concept of looking nice for yourself then why should a holiday be any different?

besides who wants grey roots in their holiday snaps

PiperChapstick · 26/06/2015 20:06

We've all done that thing where you look back on pics and think "Christ I looked shit". Who wants that?

Oh, that's right, Martyrs R Us

MissFenella · 26/06/2015 20:11

all those saying the OP has taught her son a lesson that school is not important - is the message that women always put themselves last a more healthy message to give the men of tomorrow?

Snaps to the OP for saying fuck it today I come 1st!
