WIBU to keep my son off school for this?

So I had a hairdresser appointment this morning for 9.30. I desperately needed a cut and colour before going on holiday next week.

Unfortunately my dd was sick at 7.30am...although she seemed fine afterwards. This meant I had to keep her off school.
Given that the chances of getting another appointment in time for the hols was zero, was I bu to call in a sicky for my eldest son (14) this morning to watch her while I kept the appointment I had? Fridays are a half day at school anyway here.

My hair is looking great now but I don't know if I did the right thing.
What would you have done?

Oh and take sick child with you and have people judge you for that as well

PiperChapstick · 26/06/2015 19:20

Meh. I really can't get outraged about this. I actually think it's quite funny

AnimalsAreMyFriends · 26/06/2015 19:22

Good grief Piper do you have some sort of death wish???? Funny?? Shock

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 26/06/2015 19:22

She might have been confident her dd wasn't going to be sick again but it would have been sods law if she'd taken her along and she'd have spewed in the hairdressers .

Embarrassing for the op

Awful for the dd

Unpleasant for the hairdressers not to mention the other customers

Best she stayed at home really .

slightlyconfused85 · 26/06/2015 19:23

I read this thread thinking any minute now the op is going to admit that it is just a joke. It seems to be for real therefore yabvvvvu. You're teaching your son a)that his education is less valuable than a hair cut b) that lying is acceptable. Shit parenting.

DeidreChambersWhatACoincidence · 26/06/2015 19:25

I guess you haven't got a leg to stand on if your ds decides to bunk off for whatever reason now.

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 26/06/2015 19:25

The judginess is funny

LashesandLipstick · 26/06/2015 19:26

I'm confused, do people this uptight really exist?!

PiperChapstick · 26/06/2015 19:27

Animals I only read the first page and anticipated the rest of it to be pearl clutching tedium. Have I said the wrong thing ? ConfusedBlush

usualsuspect333 · 26/06/2015 19:27

The outrage is funny.

MrsItsNoworNotatAll · 26/06/2015 19:28

Shit parenting ???

Weeps!

Goes to change kickers

Cumbrae · 26/06/2015 19:29

Is it just me or all the other Scottish MNers thinking hard about whether any red heads were missing from the school gate this morning.

although given the Friday afternoon early finish I'm assuming an Edinburgh poster

PiperChapstick · 26/06/2015 19:30

It really isn't that difficult to organise your life so that you don't need 'urgent' last minute haircuts

Did I miss a memo? Adults are supposed to have contingency plans for mundane tasks?
I'm gonna write a 5 point action plan for alternative sleeping arrangements in case my bed springs break tonight.

samsam123 · 26/06/2015 19:32

So glad the hair is looking good now

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/06/2015 19:32

We need a MN approved of lists of appointments we are allowed to make. so far I've cancelled hair, eye brow, dental and non emergency vet appointments.

am allowed to keep the trip to the shop fir wine in case dd1 &2 and dp are struck down in the 15 mins I'm gone?

AnimalsAreMyFriends · 26/06/2015 19:33

Piper Grin Don't go bouncing on that bed.....

PiperChapstick · 26/06/2015 19:33

Mrs change your kickers? How very 90s of you!

Fantoosh · 26/06/2015 19:34

I know it's too late to make a difference now and it wouldn't have anyway, but I feel I should tell you all that I didn't ask my son to skive the morning for my hairdressing appointment. He offered.
He is a nice lad. And doing very well at school...did I mention that? Wink Grin

I'm am not just a bad mother - I am a fucking foxy one Grin

I love the idea of teachers sat around saying 'little X's mum - she may not be cool but at least they have 100% attendance' - like anyone gives an actual rats wank Grin

PerspicaciaTick · 26/06/2015 19:36

You are soooo going to get caught OP Grin.
Either your DS will tell his friends, who will tell their parents next time they want to skive " MiniFantoosh's mum let's him skive off all the time" (with exaggerated eye roll) OR someone in RL will recognise you from this thread with your rich raspberry hair.

Whether or not anyone in RL will care is another matter.

AnimalsAreMyFriends · 26/06/2015 19:36

Fan - really? Now you are pulling our legs - a 14 year old who offers to help out his mum? Hmm

Honestly, do you think we were born yesterday?

PiperChapstick · 26/06/2015 19:37

Fantoosh I bet his "day off school opportunity" radar was going haywire Grin
Does your arse look good on that plate Wink pleased you like your hair!

PiperChapstick · 26/06/2015 19:38

Families are always supposed to have a back up plan and an array of adults ready to drop everything at any moment.

If you don't have this you shouldn't have had children. Selfish much?! Oh and if you have any kind of hardship like being a single parent, illness or disability, that's a moral judgement and you probably give your children up as they deserve better.
