It's a bit annoying having to type out a really long user name - have a user name that's easy on the eye and the finger - or if you insist on going over the top, choose a name that can be easily abbreviated.

I don't want to be known as GAG Grin. If it's a long name I just pick out a word

With so many users?

Yeah, that'll work a treat Grin

YABU

Usernames are half the fun

Quitepossiblyasockpuppetaswell · 20/06/2015 12:07

I agree Longest

MardyBra · 20/06/2015 12:07

Oh look. I win!

LikeIcan · 20/06/2015 12:07

Pourquo - I could make a roast dinner in the time it takes me to type your full name - it's too long!

You want the ChaosTR Rules. She decreed that all usernames should have capitals in the appropriate places and be easily abbreviated.

MardyBra · 20/06/2015 12:09

(I realise Euphemia also has 8 letters but no logical abbreviation) apart from the unwieldy "euph"

MardyBra · 20/06/2015 12:09

Not sure what happened with my brackets there.

JassyRadlett · 20/06/2015 12:10

If I dropped to Jassy people would still write it Jessy. So YANBU, it wouldn't make a blind but of difference, just a slightly less interesting username.

I always get sad if I'm on the phone and I can't see the end of a really long username, though, cos I'm always convinced it must be brilliant.

IlikelongusernamesaandIambored · 20/06/2015 12:10

I agree with Longest and Quite

JassyRadlett · 20/06/2015 12:11

Pourquo - I could make a roast dinner in the time it takes me to type your full name - it's too long!

But easily shortened to the 8-letter Pourquoi. Grin

MardyBra · 20/06/2015 12:13

Yanbu by the way but about 4 years late.

See page 3 of this thread www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/1334245-to-think-that-user-names-should-be-easy-to-type-or-easy-to-shorten?pg=3

MardyBra · 20/06/2015 12:14

There's no problem with a long name though as long as there is an easy abbreviation.

ghostyslovesheep · 20/06/2015 12:14

no

MardyBra · 20/06/2015 12:15

You'd lose a lot of the inventiveness of user names (like pourquois) if a strict 8 letter limit were imposed.

GeorgianaDevonshire · 20/06/2015 12:17

I am willing to be addressed as 'Your Grace' if that helps?
