to not give a toss that I'm vegan and just killed 40-50 slugs and snails

I haven't had a single strawberry this year that hadn't been part nibbled.

Its wet outside. I tool my torch and a bucket with salty water and plopped all the ones I could find in there.

Sadly this didn't seam to kill them, so I sprinkled salt on the ones that tried to get out. And they dropped down.

Am I a bad person? Mostly they were slugs, but did get a few snails.

Just to reiterate what CQ said - PLEASE do not use slug pellets. They are one of the reasons that our common birds are dying in huge numbers. Find a natural alternative - and there are plenty that work. Crushed eggshells for a start.

I'm pretty hypocritical. I eat meat but can't bring myself to kill the slugs in my garden.

I kinda figure that the garden is more their home than mine, I'm just visiting but they actually live in it. (I think it helps that I don't grow fruit n veg and have given up on planting stuff that they really like).

Live and let live.

Make your garden hedgehog friendly including making a tunnel or two under your fence. I had a massive slug/snail problem (including those huge leopard slugs - boak) until a hedgehog turned up and decimated the population.

I don't see them too often but I know there's at least two different ones about. Much, much better than slug pellets. Grin
