Just had a quick byte to eat after work with a friend that really likes it. Didn't have any alcohol and it came to 38 just for my stuff, wasn't even full after and was there less than an hour.

I did try those supposed deadly rice cakes, thought they were horrible. Not sure why so many oaps dice with death to eat themConfused

We love Yo Sushi.

We usually end up spending £38 for a family of four and leave feeling full.

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 12/06/2015 05:48

Who on earth eats 10 plates of sushi Shock. I know they are tiny but surely that's a stupid offer?

ihatethecold · 12/06/2015 07:08

Maybe you could share the 10 plates? Hmm

auntyentropy · 12/06/2015 07:22

You can only do the 10 plates for 20 quid thing if everyone in the group does it, so yeah, you'd need to be hungry. We might try it though, as a special treat because kids can do 5 plates for a tenner and we gave large and hungry kids so we'd probably split the difference.

FuzzyWizard · 12/06/2015 07:35

You aren't allowed to share. Everyone in your group has to have the offer. If you manage around 7 plates it's still pretty good value for a lot of yummy food.

Bunbaker · 12/06/2015 08:37

"but I think it's cheap and cheerful."

You must eat at expensive places to think that Yo Sushi is cheap. The general consensus is that it isn't cheap at all.

I agree that quality varies between branches. Also what is available on the menu varies. They can't offer some of the things DD likes at Meadowhall because they don't have the facilities as they are in the middle of a shopping mall.

IMO the one in Harvey Nicholls in Leeds is better.

Fabulassie · 12/06/2015 08:56

I eat at yo sushi and can run up a huge bill like the op just drinking water. I eat whatever I want and don't pay attention to the plate colours.

I suppose I could be careful, but that's no fun.

I prefer Wasabi. I can pig out for much less.

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 12/06/2015 09:04

I agree bunbaker. People often say Pizza Express is cheap but unless you have vouchers it is much more expensive than the average independent place and the drinks are always a rip off as you have to pay full price for them.

TobikkoRoll · 12/06/2015 09:20

We've been to Yo Sushi and will never go again - over priced amd not tasty. We'd rather make a trip into Soho London and go to one of many sushi restaurants there, but it's not cheap: edging close to £90 for 2 adults and 2 teens with mostly soft drinks. But we're stuffed and happy, it's an occasional treat.

Cherryblossomsinspring · 12/06/2015 10:10

I got a Domino's (bleugh I know but I'm pregnant) the other day and even with the best multi buy deal it was still more expensive than full price pizza express!!!! What the hell?

EachandEveryone · 12/06/2015 10:15

My Japanese friends wouldn't be seen dead in there. Awful over priced place, so is Wagamama. I'd rather just find a cheap local noodle bar. Or go to a Pizza Express!

Bunbaker · 12/06/2015 16:38

Some of you are very lucky to have a choice of noodle bars/authentic Japanese restaurants. I live in a foodie desert part of the country and am happy to be able to get to a Yo Sushi or Wagamamas reasonably easily.

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/06/2015 16:52

I'm about an hour away from Glasgow Bunbaker, no good Japanese food in my small town, luckily I am a very good cook!

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/06/2015 17:21

How can you "only eat the green dishes"? Confused

When we were there the only thing in the green dishes were the edamame beans.

catsrus · 12/06/2015 18:15

9 green dishes on the menu that I've counted MrsS www.yosushi.com/food/menu

You just ask for them if they aren't on the belt Smile

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 12/06/2015 18:26

I remember taking dd and ds, spent a bomb. Ds then asked for money to go to Greggs for a pasty. Prefer wagamama mamas or the proper Japanese in our big city.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 12/06/2015 18:44

I went for the first time with dd on Sunday and we only needed 3 things each - cost £20 for the two of us including drinks. I loved the fact we weren't spending money on loads of food we couldn't eat like we usually do.
This was in York - might it be cheaper than in the south?
Admittedly it wasn't the best sushi ever but the play value was great. Can't imagine eating 10 things though.

MrsSchadenfreude · 12/06/2015 18:57

I think there was about a tenth of that extensive menu available when we were there. Didn't know you could ask for what you wanted if you couldn't see it, but as we won't be going back, it doesn't matter.

catsrus · 12/06/2015 19:30

Didn't you read the menu? It explains how to order. The person who showed you to your seat should also have asked if you had been before. S/he should then have explained to you how it worked, including ordering anything you wanted from the menu that wasn't on the belt.

There are three Yo Sushis that I go in with any regularity - and they all have slightly different 'regular' plates on the belt, but I just order what I want if it isn't on there. When it's not busy they obviously don't have lots of food going round in circles for hours only to be thrown away (they're time stamped, so if not eaten get rejected).

I still think it's good value, I can get what I like, as much as I like, and quickly and their Merlot is fab

claravine · 12/06/2015 20:00

I want to hear more about death defying mochi, op

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 12/06/2015 20:21

Dd had mochi [Shock]
She's still alive, thank goodness.

Bunbaker · 13/06/2015 09:18

"I'm about an hour away from Glasgow Bunbaker, no good Japanese food in my small town, luckily I am a very good cook!"

So am I. We even make our own sushi, but sometimes I fancy eating some already made, plus the sushi ginger from the supermarket doesn't taste as good as Yo Sushi's, and I can't get some of the ingredients I want locally.

shrunkenhead · 13/06/2015 10:54

Thanks for explaining. I'm glad the waiters explainit all to you whenyou get in too! Might risk it!

catsrus · 13/06/2015 11:43

Go for it shrunken I've tried dishes in there I don't like and would never try again, others I'm a bit meh about and some I thoroughly enjoy - inevitable with such a huge menu. I introduced my friends 16 yr old son to it - and he's more adventurous than me so I've expanded the list of things I've tried, we have very different tastes indeed Smile

shrunkenhead · 13/06/2015 11:46

My dd quite likes rice and fish type things so think we'd enjoy a nice girly lunch there.
