Just had a quick byte to eat after work with a friend that really likes it. Didn't have any alcohol and it came to 38 just for my stuff, wasn't even full after and was there less than an hour.

I did try those supposed deadly rice cakes, thought they were horrible. Not sure why so many oaps dice with death to eat themConfused

At the risk of stating the obvious, sushi is not raw fish at all, but rice with a variety of flavourings such as seaweed, vegetables, meat and cooked or raw fish.

And sushi, if well made with raw fish or anything else, is delicious. This thread has prompted me to make a special trip into town over the next few days to go to Wasabi. Yum.

NotYouNaanBread · 11/06/2015 12:55

Yo Sushi is overpriced. If you just want a yummy sushi lunch, get Itsu and devour it in the park. YUM.

albertcamus · 11/06/2015 14:16

A good friend of mine, who is an amazing chef, took a promoted job @ Yo Sushi (a London branch), after working for Wagamamas for 15 years. She was amazed, disgusted and really disappointed ... she left after a month.

Lavenderice · 11/06/2015 14:37

I love Yo Sushi! Blue Monday's are officially the best.

GymBum · 11/06/2015 16:40

I love Yo Sushi. It is what it is. It's not supposed to be high end quality.. It's fast food. I am normally stuffed bloated after 4 bowls. 5/6 if I am really starving.

Cherryblossomsinspring · 11/06/2015 19:21

I honestly don't know what an amazing chef would be doing at Wagamamas. At best it's a steady job. But all the food is pre formulated like in a fast food restaurant. Very very little chef work to do. I'm even surprised they use chefs. Sorry, not sneering. Just musing.

TheCrowFromBelow · 11/06/2015 19:27

I had a fresh juice as well. Didn't go for the expensive dishes only had two 5 quid ones, the rest were much cheaper.

Then how did you spend £38? It doesn't add up unless you tipped the dogbot (do they still have that?)

Bunbaker · 11/06/2015 19:31

"it came to 38 just for my stuff, wasn't even full after and was there less than an hour."

Did you get the most expensive dishes or are you a glutton?

"and the food isn't cooked to order."

Wrong. The hot food is cooked to order. It would go cold if they stuck it on the conveyor belt.

And for the ignorant - Sushi is not raw fish. Sushi is the rice. If you want raw fish you look for sashimi.

I agree that Yo Sushi isn't cheap, but DD and I like it, and Wagamamas.

albertcamus · 11/06/2015 19:46

cherryblossom I don't want to say too much, for fear of identifying her in her industry. I rate her as a brilliant chef based on the meals she's cooked for us, socially.

Her rendering of the Wagamamas white chocolate ginger cheesecake is supreme Cake

stolenview · 11/06/2015 19:57

Cheesecake is with all due respect not hard, its just biscuits, fat, sugar and cheese. Difficult to go wrong

shrunkenhead · 11/06/2015 20:31

Thanks for explaining it but it does sound stressful, do you have time to finish it before the plate moves off again or do you have one bite off your plate on each rotation?! What if someone mistakes your half eaten plate for theirs? Do you shout across the conveyor belt "Oi! No, that's my prawn thingymajig not yours!"

expatinscotland · 11/06/2015 20:37

The food is rank in there. YANBU.

littlehouseinthebigwoods · 11/06/2015 20:46

Surely the quality etc depends on the branch? We love our local one, but it is very much a special occasion trip rather than an every day one..

FuzzyWizard · 11/06/2015 20:48

I really like yo sushi. I've also been to Japan... Whilst there are some super fresh authentic sushi places there are also loads of yo sushi type places (kaitenzushi) serving similar quality food. Cheeseburger nigiri anyone? I'd go to yo sushi just for their Takoyaki (octopus balls) which are to die for and no different to the ones you'd get in Japan really and the little beef sausages which are delicious but possibly not terribly authentic. I admit it can be a bit pricy but have never spent anything like as much as the OP... And I'm greedy.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 11/06/2015 20:55

Shrunken - you sit at a table and take the plates off the conveyor belt.

I love Yo Sushi - I especially enjoy their seaweed and edamame bean kaisu salad - which happens to be one of the cheapest dishes.

NickAngel · 11/06/2015 21:00

How can you die from a chocolate rice ball?

I'm very very hungry now....

ihatethecold · 11/06/2015 21:01

I once ate sushi at Sushisamba in the heron tower in London.
It was Amazing!

IHaveBrilloHair · 11/06/2015 21:02

Dd and I like it, admittedly not cheap but I've never spent more than £50 for two of us and we were stuffed.
You can request even a cold dish made to order.
The takoyaki, fried aubergine, and seaweed salad are my favourites.

catsrus · 11/06/2015 21:31

I go to yo sushi maybe twice a month, very convenient for me to get a meal there on my way home from one of my workplaces. I don't think Ive ever managed to spend more than £25 and that's with wine!

I'm a bit boring I suppose - I know the dishes I like and I stick to them, but I think it's cheap and cheerful.

DoughDoe · 11/06/2015 21:31

yo sushi is SHIT.

Gavel.

ohtheholidays · 11/06/2015 23:07

Never been myself but just looked at they're site and they have an offer on Sundays 10 plates for £20 www.yosushi.com/offers/sunday-munch

2rebecca · 11/06/2015 23:25

I like yo sushi and the kids like it. Great for a quick meal and it can be fun. We have free miso refills a large bowl of something hot from the menu and a couple of sushi bowls sometimes specially selected. If you don't like it don't go

daisychain01 · 12/06/2015 05:22

YANBU Yo is very overpriced but I like the fact they cook some of the dishes to order and we enjoy sitting at the table watching them making up the little pods and putting them onto the conveyor belt.

DSSS favourite place to eat but as he has got older and bigger he needs more pods to fill him up. So we give him a big late breakfast then say Fancy a Yo for lunch? Grin

daisychain01 · 12/06/2015 05:25

The food travels round on the conveyor belt but you pick the plate you want off the belt before eating it!

daisychain01 · 12/06/2015 05:27

That was to shrunkenhead btw
