I cannot stand it when someone is asking about what to use in a certain situation, and people say "... [Such and such] is your friend" argh I hate that!

Or when people describe something as their "go-to" product .

Don't know why but I just hate those phrases! Anyone else ?!

Gottagetmoving · 09/06/2015 13:33

'Pick your battles' - People say that on MN ALL the time! Or they repeat something 3 times, as in 'Ignore, ignore, ignore' HATE it!!
There are a lot of MN 'talk' that gets on my tits,..using 'passive aggressive' is another.

flora717 · 09/06/2015 13:42

"Smile, it might never happen". Oh. Fuck. Off.

TedAndLola · 09/06/2015 13:48

YES to "smile, it may never happen." It should be legal to thump people who say it.

I hate most middle management speak like "let's touch base" or "we need to reach out to customers" or "hit the ground running." Ugh.

TTWK · 09/06/2015 13:49

"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger"

Err...polio? Heart attack? Cancer?

Fuck off with your mindless platitudes.

And "you have to fight fire with fire". Really...and how long did you last in the fire brigade with that theory?

Twats.

Metalguru · 09/06/2015 13:50

Btw I mean the phrase I don't like is simples (not ugh!)

susanstryingterm · 09/06/2015 13:51

Sinister

How about 'I'm not being rude or anything, but fuck off'.

helenahandbag · 09/06/2015 13:52

"Nom nom" makes me want to punch my own teeth out.

SaucyJack · 09/06/2015 13:52

"I turned around and I says to him/her"

Getthewonderwebout · 09/06/2015 13:53

The trend, on here for making a statement to undermine someone with the ending ",no?" Or even worse ,"non?" When the rest of the statement was in English.

Not a phrase but I hate being called Hun.

If someone does it I just tell them there and then not to as I hate it.

KurriKurri · 09/06/2015 13:56

A favourite of my X's is 'Can I just say .....' followed by a lecture on how I am doing something wrong. Now I just jump in with 'no you can't' and walk off Grin

Another one is 'calm down' when someone has done something vile to you and is trying to minimise the upset they have caused.

LondonRocks · 09/06/2015 13:58

'Whoop whoop'

Hate it. Dreadful word/ phrase.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 09/06/2015 13:58

I have decided I hate the word bigot. It's overused and smug. Likewise scum because it dehumanizes and I don't think that's helpful whether we're talking about Tories, benefit claimants or muggers of old ladies.

I also hate 'there's no smoke without fire' because there is.

susanstryingterm · 09/06/2015 13:59

Oh yes Kurri. I absolutely hate it when someone does that little laugh followed by 'calm down', when they've been an absolute shit stirring cow.

LondonRocks · 09/06/2015 13:59

And 'sleep when the baby sleeps' used to make me Angry

On mumsnet I find the term 'passive aggressive' very annoying, particularly when it's so often used totally inappropriately.

MadeinSouthWest · 09/06/2015 14:03

When people talk about someone (or themselves) having "a strong personality".

It suggests everyone else has a weak personality.

ItsTricky · 09/06/2015 14:05

Adorbs

ItsTricky · 09/06/2015 14:06

Bestie and BFF. Especially when used by adults.
