to expect my GP to treat DD's veruccas

DD is student 19 has 3 veruccas, called the GP today asking if she can attend the regular cryo (freezing) weds afternoon clinic to be told that she has to have used shop bought treatments first, having had them and failed miserably in the past the GP was still insistent we try again as 'things might have changed' bearing in mind she is a student the freezing bazooka treatments at £15 aren't cheap. Our GP's no longer have face to face appts now anyway, they assess over the phone before it's rare to see one, just another money saving scheme.

Yabu, when I was a child I went for weekly appts to have a verruca removed.
last year ds2 got one so I went to the docs with him, only to be told we can use otc treatments but that if we left it, it would disappear after a while anyway.
few weeks later it had just gone.
no need to tie up clinics etc unless is a terrible case that won't respond to diy treatments.

They don't at our GPs either.
Cider vinegar worked really well on DS' verruca-was gone in 3 weeks. Not ideal to spend Ghd night with your foot stinking of vinegar at 19, but might be worth a shot?

My kids have had a few verrucas over the years but I've just used over the counter stuff. Takes a while applying thr stuff everyday and filing away the verruca but they went eventually. Not the sort of thing I would trouble the gp with, unless particularly large and painful.

All she needs to do is every night use a scrubber on her verrucas to remove the layers of hard skin. These will eventually get down to the verruca and it will fall off.

I have never used anything on mine or the kids and we have all had them. Ds2 had monsters.

No GP will treat them. They arnt serious.

There is no evidence that any treatment is better than another for verrucas. I would try duct tape. Or just leave alone and they will go eventually.

Been there done all of that, all the way through child hood she's had warts one particularly bad case on her face and she ended up having them frozen at the hospital. Hence the request as she's had them ages...

Yes, GPs don't treat verrucas anymore unless they are hugely painful etc etc.

Duct tape to exclude air, takes persistence, might take weeks until the thing can be dug out or if she's lucky it might do a "trapdoor" for cutting-off. photos please phwoooaaar

Increase her vit c with kiwi fruits, oranges and put duct tape on at night. It will go in time x

YABU. The NHS is ridiculously stretched at the moment, and if there are treatments that you can buy over the counter then you should. If they really don't work, and you don't want to use the perfectly valid option of just leaving them alone, you can choose to have them treated privately.

They're only verrucas.

We've resorted to a chiropodist. Gp won't treat them, although they have in the past. Tried the duct tape, bazooka, blah blah. Had them about 10 years.

Down to the last one now.

Wartner freeze spray - using it twice, with a month separation usually does the trick.

There are lots of different types of verrucas and only one will respond well to the over the counter treatment.
If she has done it several times before (and done it well), then it suggest to me that it's not going to work this time either.

If this is the same type she had on her face before (they will spread from place to lace on the body), then even more of a reason to need stronger treatment.

I'm at the 'The NHS is so stretched. You can't be asking that'. Is it relly better that her dd is spreading said verrucas to everyone else becuse she can't get treatment?

No evidence that freezing is any better than shop bought treatments or really that it's better than doing nothing ( and it hurts and has side effects /infection /scarring risk).

Duct tape is a real win win win method. It is as good as other treatments ( or they are all equally poor!) but it's covered up. not spreading and often not hurting then.

sunbathe many years ago also ended up with chiropodist, he had to pack her foot as she could hardly walk, she's in pain now so trying to buy the product he gave us online which was Glutarol... these just aren't going away, don't think the duct tape will stick to her sweaty feet lol, not the kind of fashion look a teen needs in the summer!

And can I ask too.
If duct tape is THE answer, why on earth did GPs not treat them like this before then?
I can't see any evidence that this method is any better than the others...

YABU, they're not a necessity unless they're causing pain. Even then, you'd be hard pushed to get the average GP to deal with this these days,

I couldn't get a Dr to freeze mine either. I did soak in Apple Cider Vinegar and then painted over it with clear nail polish, and reapply nail polish daily. Also took a multi vitamin. Combination seemed to work- but may have been coincidence!

Because people didn't know it worked then I'm guessing?! plenty of anecdotal evidence just on this thread that it's worked for people. DP used OTC treatments for 2 YEARS without success- military doc told him to use the tape and literally 3 days later all that was left was a tiny patch of dry skin.
