Topless Man Syndrome

It's summer, which can mean only one thing.
Hoards of topless, sweaty, greasy, overweight, paunchy, balding usually British men in the Supermarkets, walking down the High Streets, on the school run, you name it, they're doing it.

They are usually to be seen swaggering waddling along, clutching the t shirt that has been whipped off their sweaty torsos in their greasy mitts. Sometimes it's flung nonchalantly over one shoulder.

I counted 5 today. They fascinate and disgust me at the same time.
Is it a British thing?
Do men from other countries behave in this way? Or is it just our lot? Shock

On the beach? Fair enough.
Out in public? No - put a shirt on fgs. We don't wanna see your moobs.

I hate it. Think it's so uncouth and common.

sebsmummy1 · 06/06/2015 16:29

Doesn't bother me. I see lots of overweight women/girls with flesh on show that id rather not see either but I kind of admire their confidence.

MrsTerryPratchett · 06/06/2015 16:31

Three years in Italy, I never saw it. You see a bit here in Canada but not like the UK.

There was recently a study that showed at men look at a mirror more than women and when women do it's "do I have spinach/lipstick/toilet paper attached?" When men do it's "hey, good-looking". I envy their confidence.

MrsGentlyBenevolent · 06/06/2015 16:31

Just the blokes? I think fat, ugly people in generalshould just stay indoors until November. Only thinner people with lustrous hair should walk about in warm weather. Any others should either only go out at night or wear a full blown anorak as not to offend anyone's eyesight.

ScorpioMermaid · 06/06/2015 16:31

I know what you mean! It's grim! And some women are as bad..

My DH won't even take his top off in the garden so has the daftest farmers tan. He looks perfectly fine with his top in though but makes me laugh when he takes it off.

Tinklewinkle · 06/06/2015 16:32

YANBU.

Round here a tiny glimpse of sun and the tops are off and tucked into the waistband of their very low slung jeans

It's not even that hot here today. The sun is out but it's quite windy and a bit chilly.

Nipped to the local shop early this morning as we'd run out of milk and they were every where. I hadn't even had my first coffee of the day

nameChangeQueen · 06/06/2015 16:32

My dp's dad does this at the first hint of sun. Dp hates it, he finds it really embarrassing.

Despite the lack of inhibition about his own top half, dp's dad (and his mum) both are extremely uptight about me breastfeeding dd.

ScorpioMermaid · 06/06/2015 16:32

Oops, missed a whole sentence there...

Some women are as bad, getting in tiny shorts that clearly don't fit.. Makes me cringe!

BitOfFun · 06/06/2015 16:33

It's all skinny youths round here, and just as uncouth.

LustyBusty · 06/06/2015 16:44

I keep threatening to do it down my local high street (I am female, for reference!!) if a bloke can walk down the street belly and moobs wobbling away merrily, I don't see why I can't do likewise!! Grin (I am of course, never actually gonna be brave enough to do it, but I so want to!!)

happyhev1 · 06/06/2015 16:51

It's the double standard that bothers me, not how attractive the topless man is. It feels arrogant and entitled when men do this. Imagine the abuse a woman would get if she did the same.

DosDuchas · 06/06/2015 16:52

i find they arent paunchy at all.
Normally a bit Gym Lad

but horrendous never theless

DosDuchas · 06/06/2015 16:52

and it IS uncouth

Sparklingbrook · 06/06/2015 16:56

I don't know why they do it. is it really cooler (temperature wise) to take a t shirt off?

Not sure I want to see anyone's bare chest when in public.

Sickoffrozen · 06/06/2015 16:58

Not sure what is worse, this or the endless teenage/early twenties men walking down streets with their hands down their pants. wtf is that all about? Do men constantly have to be messing with their bits and bobs?

Rosa · 06/06/2015 16:59

Its rude, bad mannered and in a city, town or whatever then no way. In a park at the beach or in your back garden then fine. Plsu they smell so much more .. YUCK
Thankfully in Italy they would be asked to put it back on again . And in some places they can be fined for not being suitably dressed....

42andGaffaTape · 06/06/2015 17:02

What I hate is when they are on public transport sweating all over the seats. It's bloody disgusting especially when you sit there next unaware of the damp man sweat which is now attaching itself to your clothes Envy

ZombieApocalypse · 06/06/2015 17:10

Summer brings out the worst of them. I saw a guy in a string vest the other day. A string vest! I had no idea you could buy them outside of 1972. There are lots of gym lads who jog topless near where I live. It just smacks of being a bit 'hey girls' to me.

I am also constantly amazed at the amount of women who think 'white unlined dress... I know! I'll wear white/coloured pants and bra!' Buy some flesh coloured underwear or buy a slip, FFS!

paddypants13 · 06/06/2015 17:25

It's in the supermarket it gets to me. I don't want your chest hairs and sweat all over my fresh produce. Puke.

(I know I'll was it later but that's not the point.)

WorraLiberty · 06/06/2015 17:30

Hoards of topless, sweaty, greasy, overweight, paunchy, balding usually British men

Something tells me you'd be just as nasty about them if they popped a t.shirt on over their "sweaty, greasy, overweight, paunchy" bodies Hmm

I think it's bad manners to walk down the street with no top on, therefore I don't like seeing it.

But your description of them makes you sound pretty vile.

mumofthemonsters808 · 06/06/2015 17:31

I don't think it should be allowed in supermarkets or restaurants.

mrsdavidbowie · 06/06/2015 17:33

The British are pretty crap at summer clothes. Probably because of the crap weather....first sign of sun, everyone's stripped off.

CatherineOfAbdomen · 06/06/2015 17:37

My local supermarket put a sign on the door last year regarding this.

OrlandoWoolf · 06/06/2015 17:37

Only seen one so far.

Quite well built and toned. Grin

But yes, some sights are less welcome.

claraschu · 06/06/2015 17:40

Where are you finding all these topless men in restaurants, on buses, wandering the streets, fingering the asparagus??

I am baffled. I never see them.
