Topless Man Syndrome

It's summer, which can mean only one thing.
Hoards of topless, sweaty, greasy, overweight, paunchy, balding usually British men in the Supermarkets, walking down the High Streets, on the school run, you name it, they're doing it.

They are usually to be seen swaggering waddling along, clutching the t shirt that has been whipped off their sweaty torsos in their greasy mitts. Sometimes it's flung nonchalantly over one shoulder.

I counted 5 today. They fascinate and disgust me at the same time.
Is it a British thing?
Do men from other countries behave in this way? Or is it just our lot? Shock

On the beach? Fair enough.
Out in public? No - put a shirt on fgs. We don't wanna see your moobs.

I also don't think anyone should be topless in public.

Back garden, beach ect fine.

But I don't like it anywhere else. Some pubs now have signs telling people.

I wouldn't let the dc when they were younger, take the t-shirts off, like some of the other boys did at the park or playing out.

They don't ask now. But at home in the garden I don't mind.

I don't mind it. You'd do it at the beach, so what's the difference? They were probably just too hot.

Where does a lot of flesh end and topless start?

You see loads of people, mainly young women, who show a lot of flesh. Men seem to go topless.

Is there a difference?

Yes, there's a difference. Topless is literally half-naked.

There's also a difference between the beach and the street: one's a beach and one's a street.

Have just been to Tesco. One chap had a good rootle round in his sweaty arm pit, it was smelly, and then rummaged in the butter display until he found a pack to please him. Totally gross. I didn't bother to buy any butter or marge and headed for the tills.

The DCs primary school actually sent a note out requesting that fathers/grandfathers/older brothers etc delivering or collecting children should be wearing a shirt.

I think it's mainly a British thing. I was talking about it with a Swedish woman and a Dutch woman the other day, they were both baffled and disgusted by all the half-naked British men around.

DH is probably the hairiest man ever to not actually be an ape. He'd never take his top off in public, he'd get so many incredulous stares.

British people haven't evolved further than homo erectus. I bet they walked round letting it all hang out too Grin

Drunk and naked. Yuck Confused

It is grim. Keep covered up people- no one wants to see it.

I find it quite sweet when English people strip off at the first sign of sun.

2 things I hate about summer

  • Men walking the streets topless
  • and people who decide when it gets hotter you open the windows of your house and put loud music on!

It is vile. And I refuse to accept that disapproving of it is fat shaming or body shaming or uptight. Put it away!

I live in Brazil, loads of men go shirtless when they are outside doing manual labour, at the beach/pool, or in an informal social setting or dirty bar. In the supermarket, in shops or restuarants NO that's not common. When I lived in Florida I remember every shop had a sign saying "shirt and shoes required" or something along those lines.

The difference is that white British men usually look like they've been submerged in water for a month so it stands out more than a well-toned, sunkissed chest. Even my 95 year old grandfather-in-law looks better shirtless than some of the men I used to see in Tesco.

I hate it. It's not body shaming, I don't care if you're 22 stone or 8 stone just put a fecking t shirt on!
Dd1 asked last year why do boys ruin a nice day by taking their shirts off Grin

My gardener had a helper with him who took his top off yesterday

Sweet lord above he had an eight pack.

Like the trollope I am I ran to get ice cold diet cokes for them.

It amused me

I like it. Clearly I'm in the minority :)
We're all too uptight about our bodies as it is - why on earth is the sight of a human so upsetting?

Report
Sparklingbrook · 06/06/2015 19:32

It isn't upsetting. Just unnecessary.

Very uncouth. Theme parks have band it now which I think is good.

It's when a sweaty knacker reaches across the fresh produce that I want to hurl. Just the thought of what might drop down from his rancid armpits... if, however, he looks like Diet Coke man he will be forgiven everything

I don't even like it if they are decent looking. It's just so vulgar and unnessecary. Like a PP I don't allow my son to take his top off.

Grin The butter display?? What is the criteria for a pleasing pack? (Worried now I've been buying sub standard packs Hmm)

The DM would have a field day if a fat woman got her wobbly norks out which were trailing round her knees Grin Imagine the sad faces of Bob and June in Hastings as they describe being knocked out by one of the saggy boobs.

in a world where people complain about people having a low body image and self esteem, we now detest those that are fine in themselves.
