if you can't afford the children you have you shouldn't have more?

was speaking to a couple I know today, both out of work and living on benifits. They have 3 children and they are very vocal about how awful it is that they barely get enough money to survive. It turn out that she is now pregnant with their 4th child! This was planned and they are delighted?! They use food banks and thir children have every gadget and toy known to man!

When I asked how on earth they will manage with another child she blatantly said the money they recieve will go up and that it is her right to have as many children as she likes?!!

I have 2DC, I would love a 3rd but we would struggle finNcislly so have made the decision not to. I believe benifits should be capped at 2 children, she obviously doesn't agree! If she can't afford to pay for the children she has why should I go without yet pay for hers through my taxes? AIBU?

You didn't op

ghostyslovesheep · 04/06/2015 20:42

Because if we do accept that the act of being in paid employment, limiting your family and earning enough to pay taxes gives us the right to be judgemental fuckwits we also have to accept that the more hours you work (you, not your hubby or daddy), the smaller your family and the more taxes you pay, the MORE right you have to be a judgemental fuckwit

so to clarify YOU where not called anything - hth :) :)

do you claim anything OP - CB, CTC? I do hope not

I did it anyway Mrs D because I love and you are my very very best friend in the whole wide world

The5DayChicken · 04/06/2015 20:45

Cliquey gits Wink

BMW6 · 04/06/2015 20:48

Anyone who has more children when they cannot support the ones they already have is a total fuckwit.

Just like my Father - and yes, my Mother too - she could have said NO
FFS.

Don't worry OP - this shite is par for the course on here. There is a huge silent majority who totally agree with you (hence the result of the last GE)

usualsuspect333 · 04/06/2015 20:50

But then you wouldn't have been born,BMW6

And what a shame that would be...

ghostyslovesheep · 04/06/2015 20:51

it's not the point that is the issue with threads like this

I think most people would feel it's not ideal to bring children into poverty but not everyone thinks you need to punish people for it

it's the whole goady 'my next door neighbours dogs friends mother has 8759875985 kids and gets 5 million a week in benefits and anyone who thinks this is good is stupid' style of posting

surely it can be discussed without the need for lies hyperbole and hear say?

ghostspirit · 04/06/2015 20:51

i really want a tub of ben and jerrys ice cream. but my kids are still awake and they might hear me leave to go to the shop. and then i will feel guilty for spending their child benefit on ice cream which i wont be able to share with them.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 04/06/2015 20:51

I've never understood the goat reference but I think it's quite funny anyway Smile

Excellent posts by MrsD

I am very happy for my taxes to go towards supporting children from poorer families, no matter how many siblings they have.

Anybody who thinks vouchers are a good idea is either:

a) someone who has never had to survive on a severely limited budget and doesn't understand the dire practical difficulties such a scheme would cause

b) a spiteful shit

if you can't afford the children you have you shouldn't have more?
ghostyslovesheep · 04/06/2015 20:52

that picture just won you the thread Grin

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 04/06/2015 20:55

A "Benefits bashing" Topic is a great idea. People can froth away happily together.

prorsum · 04/06/2015 20:56

Made me LOL. Trouble is, there aren't any phones like that in my area. And I live in the ghetto.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 04/06/2015 20:57

Can you enlighten me on what the goats are about ghosty, or is it rude to ask someone who loves sheep? Grin

CalmYoBadSelf · 04/06/2015 21:02

You have to brave to dare criticise benefits on here OP! You will always be pasted for it

I agree with you in theory that it is wrong when the playing field is not level between benefits and wages however, in practice, there is no way of changing this as some people will never be responsible and will always take advantage of whatever rules there are but we cannot penalise their children for that. I work in a very deprived area and while most people are financially bumping along the bottom there are some cases of blatant abuse and some cases of exceptional unmet need. I am equally shocked by both by more concerned about the latter

When I began work in healthcare thirty years ago I never thought that part of our role would be sending people to foodbanks and soup kitchens

I have to say I thought the latest series of Benefit Street was far more sympathetic and showed the positive side of a close community pulling together as well as some of the social problems and antisocial behaviour

SonceyD0g · 04/06/2015 21:03

I'm guessing it's a certain kind of people who buy a goat for a family overseas.
I'm glad the goat is back. I want a goat I live in the uk so don't think anyone is going to send me one!

FlabulousChix · 04/06/2015 21:05

She should beade to fern it adopted or just not get any more money. Baked my noodles people make it a life choice to ponce off the state

prorsum · 04/06/2015 21:07

What?

ghostyslovesheep · 04/06/2015 21:07

the goats came about on a similar thread - people talking about folk on beneefits having big screen TV's and x-boxes and 'free' houses ...not quiet sure how but people began talking about free goats and it stuck !

SeenSheen · 04/06/2015 21:09

Yanbu at all OP but this is Mumsnet and you are absolutely never allowed to express an opinion like that.!

Those who disagree with you are far far more vocal than those who agree and will slap you down instantly, accuse you of being "goady", swear at you and generally try and frighten you into keeping quiet.

Mums net is patrolled daily by often the same posters who are always on the lookout for anyone who doesn't toe the liberal line.

Welcome to Mumsnet!

usualsuspect333 · 04/06/2015 21:13

The goat came about because some one started a similar thread and said 'people on benefits get my goat'

The5DayChicken · 04/06/2015 21:13

Frighten the OP into being quiet?! Grin. I. Am. Dying!

prorsum · 04/06/2015 21:14

Seen.MN is patrolled daily by often the same posters who are always on the lookout for anyone who doesn't toe the right wing line; every benefit recipient is a scrounger who has chosen the lifestyle of indolence, whilst I, the hard working striver pays for it.

Fixed it for you.
