my 8 year old is not well. but i really need to go out tomorrow. as i need to registar babys birth. its meant to be done 42 days after birth but hes 6 weeks so im already late doing it and i cant council because it would take to long for the next appointment. plus i need to go to the council and could be sitting there for hours.... i dont have anyone to leave him with.

or do i give him calpol and get him to walk as he 8 after all

I wouldn't put an 8yo in a buggy, is that not anyone who could sit with him if you nip out?

He sounds proper poorly so I would want to speak to the GP even if you don't take him in.

If all else fails I guess do what you have to do....

GreenAugustLion · 31/05/2015 18:14

There's a lot of focus on your ds/how he feels etc - which is all very well, and I do hope he feels better.

BUT you're planning on taking a child who is 'very ill' with a bug to a REGISTRY office...ie a place filled with newborns and/or the family of newborns.

YABVVU and selfish to boot for that alone. Keep your sick child indoors unless it is essential you go out - this is not essential and will have to wait, with a call to the resistrar to explain and rearrange.

OurGlass · 31/05/2015 18:15

Bless you, sounds a nightmare. Bung him in the buggy and bugger what other people think xx

hazeyjane · 31/05/2015 18:16

blimey, why is everyone being so harsh! A virus can leave you feeling dizzy and crap, it doesn't necessarily need a dr's visit.

Of course you can push a buggy with an 8 year old, I'll be pushing ds well beyond this as he is disabled. What about people pushing twins?

Op, honestly if you think it is doable, and your ds will be ok going, then good luck with getting it all sorted. It sounds like a tough situation.

GreenAugustLion · 31/05/2015 18:17

Seriously, has no one else considered where the op is planning on taking him? Hmm

Why not just take him on a tour of your local maternity ward whilst you're at it.

Moominmarvellous · 31/05/2015 18:18

Do what you have to do my dear. A ride in a buggy wont do him or anyone else any harm.

DD who is also 8 has been known to hop in the buggy with her little brother on her lap on the way back from school! No illness, just being a lazy little pup.

ghostspirit · 31/05/2015 18:18

chix my 12 year old had same bug he has had it for 2 days. still has it today but much better to what he was..

cant be arsed to aeon? whats that?

he does not 'need' to see a doctor

Gosh - I wouldn't! Call and explain x

manicinsomniac · 31/05/2015 18:20

Yes, if he fits, you can push it and he's willing then I think you should do it.

But make sure you leave him outside the building with the buggy rather than take him in because of all the new borns.

OddBoots · 31/05/2015 18:22

If your 12yo had it too then it is catching, is there no-one who would stay with him at home? I'm not sure the other parents of newborns will appreciate his presence.

hazeyjane · 31/05/2015 18:22

GreenAugustLion because I assumed, if the op's ds has been ill for a few days that he is in the aftermath of a virus.

NerrSnerr · 31/05/2015 18:22

I wouldn't take him, not because of the buggy but because you might be in a waiting room with newborn babies. Not worth risking passing it on. Call them and explain.

fiveacres · 31/05/2015 18:25

Look, if he is so poorly, dizzy, sick, he can't walk, there is NO WAY he should be stuck in a buggy and dragged out. That is really unfair IMO.

Plus, my 8 year old would be utterly horrified, mortified, to be put in a buggy. My 8 year old carries MY buggy for me!

Then there's the germ issue - sticking a young boy who is ill and sick and dizzy outside alone is really not great parenting, and I'm not being smug or irritating there.

Just call them, explain, and leave registering until DC is better.

NotInGuatemalaNowDrRopata · 31/05/2015 18:26

Keep both home, 12 year old can sit with 8 year old while you're out if you won't be long.

ghostspirit · 31/05/2015 18:26

i have waited over 5 weeks for this appointment. yes its a restiary office but there hardly ever anyone there. i guess because its done by appointment

MistletoeBUTNOwine · 31/05/2015 18:27

Can the 12 and 8 year olds manage alone for a couple of hours?
May be flamed for that...

ahbollocks · 31/05/2015 18:28

He sounds like he needs a doctor :/

ragged · 31/05/2015 18:29

I had to wheel 2 ill DS's up to school once (age 8 & 3, vomit bug ridden), in a wide double cycling trailer, with newborn in a front carrier strapped to me, because DD needed to go to school. I really couldn't give a toss if anyone judged. They weren't exactly banging down my door offering to take DD to school for me, were they.

Mamiof3 · 31/05/2015 18:31

If my 8yr old couldn't walk a short distance or stand up I would be at the GP ASAP

ghostspirit · 31/05/2015 18:31

12 year old has school tomorrow. i have asked my daughters boyfriend if he will look after him for couple of hours waiting for reply.

OP posts:
ghostspirit · 31/05/2015 18:35

he can stand and he can walk...like he can get to the loo and kitchen. he cant walk for say 20 mins to the bus stop...

ragged im glad you can see sometimes things need to be done

MistletoeBUTNOwine · 31/05/2015 18:58

Fwiw I'd do it... 10 yo dd quite happy wedged in DS's pushchair!
Stuff everyone else Smile

MozzchopsThirty · 31/05/2015 19:06

If an 8 year old is sick enough to need pushing in a buggy then he's sick enough to see the doctor.

Big deal 'you' need to get this done, maybe think about others you'll come into contact with who could be at risk from a virus.

elliejjtiny · 31/05/2015 19:08

I've done this with my 7 year old before. He uses a wheelchair normally but when I've been pregnant and too huge to carry my youngest in a sling then I've put them both in a double buggy. I would make sure you've got a phone with you with a taxi number programmed in just in case. I always do that as I'm worried the buggy will fall apart on the way!

NerrSnerr · 31/05/2015 19:15

If this virus is that bad he cannot walk that far imagine what it could do to a newborn.
