Long story short, months of agonising stomach pain. Back and forth to doctors constantly, told they suspect an ulcer. Been taking tablets so now I get say a week pain free followed by a week in agony.
Doctor told me to book a h.pylori blood test. Can't get through to the phlebotomy service, have been trying for 4 weeks now. Just started a new job and in the middle of training so can't take time off anyway.

Yesterday the pain was so bad all day I felt constantly sick, it was right up in my shoulder as well as my stomach, dizzy, unable to focus, everything. Got worse when I got home from work, couldn't regulate my temperature, had a fever and was in so much pain. My stomach has swollen and it feels like there's a solid lump when im standing up, its literally rock solid. Today I feel marginally better but I'm still stuck in bed, temperature is fairly high and I am in pain. My heart is still skipping beats and jumping all over the place.

I don't know if out of hours could do anything for me. DP is adamant I don't need it but the pain has never left me like this before.

WIBU to go to out of hours? They'll be so busy this weekend :(

Don't worry op. A back passage exam isn't too bad and your bum is probablyinfinitely better than some they see. Breathe through it and imagine you are somewhere else.

indyandlara · 24/05/2015 13:17

I once soldiered on for 5 days, continuing to teach , with a pain that literally took my breath away. It was a burst ovarian cyst and I ended up in hospital for 4 days. Glad you're being seen.

KurriKurri · 24/05/2015 13:19

Remember hospitals are full of stuff to ease pain - if a rectal exam is going to be very painful for you at the moment tell them - they can give you some gas and air.

GooodMythicalMorning · 24/05/2015 13:19

Yeah its not too bad. They see much worse things than bottoms every day. Hope they find out whats wrong soon. Xx

jorahmormont · 24/05/2015 13:19

God I nearly cried having a cannula in!!! Whats wrong with me??

OP posts:
Gruntfuttock · 24/05/2015 13:23

You're obviously not feeling your best. That terribly long wait, feeling so ill and worried, naturally your emotions are heightened. Flowers

VivienScott · 24/05/2015 13:24

They don't put cannula's in the arms of people they are about to send home, you are definitely in the right place

jorahmormont · 24/05/2015 13:24

This is horrible alone but the doctor seemed to agree that something isnt right about that lump so I'm in the right place

OP posts:
KurriKurri · 24/05/2015 13:25

You are worried and emotional and unwell, don;t worry about crying -its very normal in hospitals, the nurses and docs will be well used to it.

Gabilan · 24/05/2015 13:25

"God I nearly cried having a cannula in!!! Whats wrong with me??"

You're tired, ill, understandably anxious, you've had a long wait this morning and a bad night. Crying is normal under the circumstances.

I cried at the osteopath once, for a lot less reason.

Foggymist · 24/05/2015 13:26

I find canulas in the back of my hand so painful, honestly the most painful thing in my very dramatic 24 hours of pre eclampsia, c section, suppository, etc etc was that canula. When I had surgery for wisdom teeth same thing, canula had me wincing, waking up, holding my hand up in agony. If it keeps hurting ask them to redo it at your wrist, much better.

jorahmormont · 24/05/2015 13:26

This is going to be fun to call work if I don't get out by tomorrow :(

OP posts:
CakeUpWall · 24/05/2015 13:26

Cry away if you need to! This is no time for stiff upper lips.

I'm so glad that you're now in the right place. Hopefully they'll get to the bottom of it soon. (Pun slightly intended)

Good luck OP. Thanks

jorahmormont · 24/05/2015 13:27

It's in my elbow so not painful now but to go in it was Ouchhh

Gabilan · 24/05/2015 13:33

Jorah in your shoes, even with the best possible outcome, I'd still be planning on telling work I wouldn't be in on Tuesday. Whatever is going on your body needs to rest to get better. And frankly, work wouldn't want me there. Better 2-3 days off now than weeks of feeling under par because you didn't give yourself a chance to heal.

Let people take care of you. Try not to even think about work.

VivienScott · 24/05/2015 13:34

I would say, if you were in a&e today with a cannula in your arm and in pain, you should probably take tomorrow off at least!

jorahmormont · 24/05/2015 13:35

There's a south African doctor. That accent!!

jorahmormont · 24/05/2015 13:36

Tomorrow is bank holiday so I'm off anyway.

VivienScott · 24/05/2015 13:38

Sorry, I meant Tuesday!

sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 24/05/2015 13:45

Sorry to hear you're going through this and it is a cliche but you are in the right place. Let's get this sorted once and for allThanks

Jackiebrambles · 24/05/2015 13:51

Just read while thread, I'm so glad you are being seen now!

Please don't worry about work right now.

youarekiddingme · 24/05/2015 13:52

Oh Jonah - I'm so sorry to hear your feeling so shite. When I had gastritis I did the sweaty thing and then massive pain which caused me to collapse. They then said it was possibly passing a gallstone. Ultrasound week later showed no gallbladder symptoms hence why they said gastritis.

For 3 weeks I just kept being told possibly gallbladder, ulcer etc and given omeprezole.

Do not underplay how your feeling.

jorahmormont · 24/05/2015 13:54

Does the black market do a trade on new stomachs?

That would solve this. I'm still holding out for an alien chest bursting monster too. Or something simple like gastritis. I could live with that.

OP posts:
sharonthewaspandthewineywall · 24/05/2015 13:56

I've got chronic gastritis and a hiatus hernia. It's awful pain to deal with like a gnawing burning pain, I hope they can sort something for you

jorahmormont · 24/05/2015 14:08

Waiting for bloods results now. And the finger up bum.
