Long story short, months of agonising stomach pain. Back and forth to doctors constantly, told they suspect an ulcer. Been taking tablets so now I get say a week pain free followed by a week in agony.
Doctor told me to book a h.pylori blood test. Can't get through to the phlebotomy service, have been trying for 4 weeks now. Just started a new job and in the middle of training so can't take time off anyway.

Yesterday the pain was so bad all day I felt constantly sick, it was right up in my shoulder as well as my stomach, dizzy, unable to focus, everything. Got worse when I got home from work, couldn't regulate my temperature, had a fever and was in so much pain. My stomach has swollen and it feels like there's a solid lump when im standing up, its literally rock solid. Today I feel marginally better but I'm still stuck in bed, temperature is fairly high and I am in pain. My heart is still skipping beats and jumping all over the place.

I don't know if out of hours could do anything for me. DP is adamant I don't need it but the pain has never left me like this before.

WIBU to go to out of hours? They'll be so busy this weekend :(

Now is the time to make it abundantly clear just how ill you are and have been feeling for ages.

jorahmormont · 24/05/2015 12:10

Damit she's found someone who is willing to chat to her. They're discussing M&S at the tops of their voices.

Going warm again :( how is everyone sitting here in thick woolly jumpers?

Gruntfuttock · 24/05/2015 12:12

Interrupt by laying it on with a trowel about the sweating, the lump, the pain etc.

KurriKurri · 24/05/2015 12:13

Do you need to lie down somewhere jorah? tell them your pain is much worse now and ask for somewhere to lie if you need it, please do not underplay your pain level and symptoms, if its a 10 tell them so. Good luck.

jorahmormont · 24/05/2015 12:16

Its not a 10 its about a 6 at the moment but I feel dizzy and sick. Who do I tell? Reception?

OP posts:
Gruntfuttock · 24/05/2015 12:17

Reception, a nurse anyone who's staff there.

KurriKurri · 24/05/2015 12:19

Yes I think reception would be first place I'd try - see what they say andif they aren't helpful ask if you can speak to triage nurse.

KurriKurri · 24/05/2015 12:20

Tell them you feel sick

ChopinLiszt · 24/05/2015 12:24

Good God! I cannot believe that you haven't been seen yet!!

When you get to see someone hopefully they will recognise the severity of how you're feeling but if they don't you must be totally honest, very clear and tell them the whole truth. Only that way can they make you better as quickly as possible.

Good luck OP, hang on in there BrewThanks

VivienScott · 24/05/2015 12:27

Go to reception, tell them the pain and fever is horrific and then go very dizzy/faint a little bit.

murmuration · 24/05/2015 12:27

A 6 like your 6, or like their 6? I bet it's a 7 or 8, at least. Just add a number or two to your instinct. That will match more what the HCP expect.

jorahmormont · 24/05/2015 12:30

I feel like I should be crying if its a 7 or 8, its just making me wince

OP posts:
Gruntfuttock · 24/05/2015 12:32

God, has there ever been a more worrying and frustrating thread? Poor OP has been in A&E for 5 bloody hours! For heaven's sake. If you haven't already thrown up or passed out, OP, please do something to get the nurse to see how serious this is. Also, never downplay your pain again when asked by a HCO how bad it is.

Psippsina · 24/05/2015 12:32

You know I feel a bit bad that you're there at all, knowing we pushed you into it advised it, though I still think it was the right advice - just so sorry you're at the mercy of a failing system Sad

Three hours + in your condition isn't right.

Gruntfuttock · 24/05/2015 12:34

Well, she underplayed how she was feeling when she saw the triage nurse, so the sooner she can correct that, the better.

murmuration · 24/05/2015 12:39

jorah - they're not used to people like us! They're used to people saying its a 6 when they think they might have sprained their ankle and are limping a bit. Please 'overplay' if you have to think of it that way. You might get close to something real, although probably still undershoot.

ChuffinAda · 24/05/2015 12:40

Go and overplay it.

Tell them it's worse than childbirth and getting worse.

jorahmormont · 24/05/2015 12:58

Being seen now. They're going to do bloods and she said something about back passages... Oh god what are they going to do?

OP posts:
ChuffinAda · 24/05/2015 12:59

Sounds like they're thinking appendix/peritonitis

Instituteofstudies · 24/05/2015 13:04

Thank the lord they've got round to seeing you now! I know it's scary but you're in the right place and whatever test they need to do is one step nearer to getting it sorted.

Gruntfuttock · 24/05/2015 13:05

Did you remember to refer to the list of symptons you made?

VivienScott · 24/05/2015 13:06

You might get a back passage exam, I don't know anything about them except someone I know had one to diagnose appendicitis. I'm under the impression it's a finger up the bum type thing but I'm sure someone who knows more will correct me.

VivienScott · 24/05/2015 13:10

But if it makes you feel any better, they wouldn't do bloods or back passage exams if they didn't think you needed it, you did need to be there!

Dansak · 24/05/2015 13:12

Yes it is likely to be a finger up the bum, don't worry though, although an abnormal thing for you, it will be very normal for them.

jorahmormont · 24/05/2015 13:15

Ahh I remember it from having DD.
