this story just broke on social media, (hope you can all see it)

That is the mothers account of what happened, very mixed responses from the commenters, what does everyone think?

Here is a news report of it:

I think it is highly unlikely they would have taken their daughter on the plane if they thought she could behave in a way that would endanger the aircraft.

Samcro · 12/05/2015 16:03

i take the point about my post about planning.
thinking I was thinking about my "situation" and not the bigger picture.

ApplePaltrow · 12/05/2015 16:29

Has anyone ever seen someone restrained on a plane before? Trust me, the daughter would NEVER get on a plane again and would be severely traumatized if she ended having a meltdown and having to be restrained. It's different for a child. They won't step in for a 2 year old. A 15 year old in the U.S. who starts to scream or scratch or bite someone will be handcuffed AT BEST. At worst duct taped into their seat and detained upon landing. The alternative could get VERY bad.

ApplePaltrow · 12/05/2015 21:05

Also I don't think you can have it both ways. If restraining a 15 year old is so easy, then why does it require special training and often go wrong? And If restraining a non verbal 15 year old having a meltdown is so easy and nondisruptive and has zero potential for violence, then would you even need the ADA?

I'm not going to pass judgment until we have the full story. I don't think I can really say who was overreacting until I've got their side too.

ToadsJustFellFromTheSky · 12/05/2015 22:35

Obviously by "their side" I mean the airlines.

I like to think they wouldn't have landed without good reason but I don't know...
