Fakeness on mumsnet

AIBU to think that at times some people on mumsnet are really fake? I don't find it as bad on AIBU threads as they are so anonymous but I've noticed it is awful on threads where ppl have built up rapport.

Like, rather than be upfront on a certain subject, I find vast majority of ppl will be like "OMG, that is so awful, totes agree with you, you poor thing" etc etc without even trying to consider the other side to the story. Or reading into the posters post which quite often is self centred and bratty, even on the surface. I find women amongst friends have a real inability to be honest and it's tiresome that women who don't even know each other/will prob never meet each other can't even be frank with one another and a group will just spew the same rubbish and paraphrase what the poster above has said. Defeats the purpose of posting for opinions because it just looks like 1. The poster wants everyone to agree and 2. No matter what, no one will even be honest. Sick of seeing ppl demonise the "baddie" in the posters tale without a second thought. And yes, I think women are particularly guilty of this in life whilst men have the guts to be more honest.

And that's that really.

Smile Koala.

FenellaFellorick · 08/05/2015 20:20

So what you are saying is that on Abu, where the question is 'am I being unreasonable', people are quite honest (some would say brutal)but on threads where people chat regularly they are friendly and on threads where people are upset and looking for support, people are more inclined to be kind

What a bunch of fucking BASTARDS we are.

As an aside, if you can find a single example of a regular mner saying the word 'totes' in anything other than a pisstaking way, I will bang Jeremy Kyle in the middle of McDonalds in a pool of fruit shoots.

wigglesrock · 08/05/2015 20:21

Well look thanks for pointing that to us all, totes shown us the error of our ways.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 08/05/2015 20:24

Are you new to Mumsnet, or have you name-changed for this post?

NightsOfGethsemane · 08/05/2015 20:27
Hmm

MN is the most brutally honest forum I frequent by a long way.

And I have never seen 'totes' used any way except ironically.

FenellaFellorick · 08/05/2015 20:28

I bet he's the partner or ex of someone who got a resounding cry of LTB and now we're a bunch of harpies who hate people to be happy.

hiddenhome · 08/05/2015 20:28

Ooo, are you 'mansplaining' OP?

We are soooooo greatful you know. We bow to your splendiferous presence Grin

Now naff orf Hmm

Pagwatch · 08/05/2015 20:30

That's a big pile of shit you posted.Totes.

KittiesInsane · 08/05/2015 20:31

Doesn't 'sound' male to me. I'm not sure what I'm basing that on (screen words not being v genderified) though.

Pancakeflipper · 08/05/2015 20:33

Nah, it works like this:

OP posts tragic tale.

First 45 responders tell them to get a grip.
Then the next 19 people tell the OP they're understand where they are coming from.

Then bun fight.

Unless on less popular sections of the site where you tend to get decent advice from how to deal with a child who has a fear of handryers, how to handle school admission policies, best hairdryer etc.

Are you bored of election talk OP and wanting a bun fight?

BIWI · 08/05/2015 20:33

Well, amazingly enough, this is - apparently - the OP's first post on Mumsnet.

So I'm wondering how he/she has made these acutely accurate observations? Grin

ouryve · 08/05/2015 20:35

YANBU, OP. I am a figment of your imagination.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 08/05/2015 20:39

Totes? Like a shopper bag? Confused

missingmumxox · 08/05/2015 20:42

research,research, research,

You got the wrong fucking forum...

Hun! Cunt you mean???

Agreeabletoeverything · 08/05/2015 20:42

Movingonup, good attempt at humour but I believe what you are thinking of is a tote

OP posts:
Tequilashotsfor1 · 08/05/2015 20:43

Totes agree!

GiddyOnZackHunt · 08/05/2015 20:44

Plonks my shopping bag next to Moving's.
There.
Totes.

HootyMcTooty · 08/05/2015 20:44

Aw hun, I totes agree. Women are so shit Hmm

pluCaChange · 08/05/2015 20:45

Oh, bollocks. If anything, the dynamic of Mumsnet is cathartic, both for people longing to "vent" feelings they're not allowed to admit to in real life, and for those who are allowed to project their own sensitivities onto an OP's situation, and give the advice they'd love to take themselves.

Pfft.

PerspicaciaTick · 08/05/2015 20:50

Totes are socks with grippy bottoms. HTH

CrapBag · 08/05/2015 20:50

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Yeah totes funny OP.

Hmm
CrapBag · 08/05/2015 20:52

"OMG, that is so awful, totes agree with you, you poor thing" said no person ever on MN. The other place yes, here no. We also don't use text speak. We type the word "people" it's not really much effort and makes for far better reading.

CuttedUpPear · 08/05/2015 20:53

Totes? Totes?

OMG even????

Nah.

CuttedUpPear · 08/05/2015 20:55
