To think you shouldn't insult someone just because they voted differently to you?

It feels like a lot of you would feel more at home in a dictatorship.

I've seen people being called stupid, selfish etc just because they decided to vote differently

I don't care who anyone voted for. I do care that we are a nation that allows everyone to vote for who they want without the threat of violence.

So being in rant mode means that it's ok to continue with the insults against anyone who didn't vote Labour?

Thurlow yet again I feel the need to remind you that there have been plenty of 'mean' posts on MN today from supporters of all parties.

Please stop acting as this is specific to Labour voters alone.

addstudentdinners2 · 08/05/2015 15:55

What squoosh said.

I've been called a bleeding heart do-gooder lefty loonie.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 08/05/2015 15:56

I love this 'oooh be nice to us, we could be deciding YOUR party's vote in 2020'. Grin A 0.8 percentage point swing and suddenly all the tory voters think they are Murdoch.

Tanith · 08/05/2015 15:56

What's all this "They" business?! I've seen insults, scaremongering, lies and nastiness posted by all colours of the political spectrum and have done for the last six weeks.

Just politics, I suppose. Only difference this time around is free access to the internet and an audience.

addstudentdinners2 · 08/05/2015 15:56

Whilst it is clear that the political ideolgy of many on mumsnet is that of favouring the left.

I don't agree with that, there are tonnes of Tories on Mumsnet. If everyone was of the same view would this thread even exist?

WeirdCatLady · 08/05/2015 15:58

Why is it still okay to insult UKIP voters? If UKIP were illegal then I could understand it, but they are a legitimate voting choice. Surely if people are being called out on saying 'Tory wanker' and 'Labour scum' etc I don't see how it is different for UKIP.

I'm not saying their policies are appealing but surely, as they are a legitimate option under our democratic system, their supporters deserve the same protection as everyone else?

usualsuspect333 · 08/05/2015 15:58

MN is full of Tories now. I might have to leave.

addstudentdinners2 · 08/05/2015 16:01

You speak as though poor little UKIP voters are huddled in a cave somewhere, frightened to death....

You are right, they are a legitimate option and have the right to proclaim they are voting for UKIP without being called names. If you're referring to the fact that people call them racist, however, then I think it's entirely justified to call them that, because it's true.

squoosh · 08/05/2015 16:01

MN is positively teeming with Tories. I don't know why some of them act as though they're more endangered than the white lion.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 08/05/2015 16:02

me too.

starwarslegoboy · 08/05/2015 16:02

Because UKIP voters are even worse cunts than the Tories. At least the Tories are just selfish. UKIP voters are bigoted, narrow minded, mean spirited and mostly, thick

ghostyslovesheep · 08/05/2015 16:02

take me with you Usual

Thurlow · 08/05/2015 16:02

Squoosh, I was just replying to the posts on this thread. I don't think that it's limited just to Labour voters.

It's not OK to call anyone 'scum' or 'loonie' (picking a word that has been bandied around) because of their political views. Just like it's not OK to call anyone 'scum' or 'loonie' because of their religious views, their views on climate change, or even their views on TV shows.

Selfishcuntydupe · 08/05/2015 16:03

Actually I would happily call a Tory a selfish cunt to their face. Its not a word I bandy about but it certainly sums it up today.

This just posted on another thread.

Aermingers · 08/05/2015 16:05

I think Mumsnet is the same as most places these days. It's socially acceptable to voice left wing views but you face social disapproval if you express more right wing ones. So the people who voted Tory were here but kept quiet about it.

It's been rather a neat trick of the left, to be very loudly and publicly disapproving of these views, as the reluctance to discuss them has created the impression that everyone is a lefty and it's the done thing. People try and fit in with that and give the socially expected responses.

But I suspect from the election result a lot of people were just going through the motions and didn't sincerely agree. I think that's why the result has come as such a shock.

And in places like this which were assumed to be Lefty people now feel comfortable to admit they're not.

squoosh · 08/05/2015 16:06

It's really not okay to call a climate change denier a loon?

Selfishcuntydupe · 08/05/2015 16:07

I also think that sites like thes gave the impression that Labour were ahead and that, combined with the Polls may actually have teh Tories secure victory by pushing Tory voters out to vote.

usualsuspect333 · 08/05/2015 16:08

MN gets more like the DM comments page every day.

addstudentdinners2 · 08/05/2015 16:08

Are you serious? I hear nothing but people who vote Tory banging on and on about it endlessly. I consider myself left-of-centre and yet in my family I'm known as a radical left-winger!

Thurlow · 08/05/2015 16:10

What, people saying that they either voted differently from you, or that they don't think it's ok to call anyone a cunt, loon or scum means that MN is getting like the DM comments page?

usualsuspect333 · 08/05/2015 16:11

Hahaha at Tory voters keeping quiet.

Have you ever read a benefit bashing thread on here, they all crawl out the woodwork then to stick the boot in.

Aeroflotgirl · 08/05/2015 16:11

I agree, it's like a dictatorship. I don't see any Tory supporters gloating and being equally nasty, says a lot really. Do you really think we woukd be better off with a laboupr government with Ed Milliband as pM.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 08/05/2015 16:12

Where is this magical place where Tories are not allowed to bang on and on and on and on and on about how Tory they are? I would love to move there.

I work in meeja London supposedly the domain of liberal leftie types and am surrounded by loud braying Tories. Sad

Icimoi · 08/05/2015 16:14

I didn't vote Labour or Tory, and I'm not going to do name-calling, but I really don't understand how anyone can think that a Conservative government won't lead to a significant decrease in quality of life for people who are too sick or disabled to work, who have chronic illnesses, who are in low-paid or insecure work, who are in insecure housing, who are young andnot supported by their family, or who are carers.

This.
