To think you shouldn't insult someone just because they voted differently to you?

It feels like a lot of you would feel more at home in a dictatorship.

I've seen people being called stupid, selfish etc just because they decided to vote differently

I don't care who anyone voted for. I do care that we are a nation that allows everyone to vote for who they want without the threat of violence.

Who made mong insults?

Aermingers · 08/05/2015 12:45

Hmm, yeah right.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 08/05/2015 12:46

I spelt Aermingers name wrong (BF and on iphone) so obviously they've leapt on that and not engaged with the argument.

In a discussion about policing people's thoughts and expression and keeping track of their internet usage.

The irony.

NoisyOyster · 08/05/2015 12:46

Oh for heavens sakes mingers it was clearly a case of fat fingers (no offence tonde!)

Jesus. People really need to calm down

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 08/05/2015 12:48

Rude. I have elegant pianist hands

susurration · 08/05/2015 13:45

Can I just make a HUGE point that just because the Tories got in doesn't mean people voted one of two ways either labour or conservative!!

A LOT of other people voted for other parties which also did not receive majority votes. Does that mean they're also wankers for 'letting' in the conservatives? Do Labour supporters think Labour are the only way to go?

I'm pissed off with my sister this morning who is stamping her feet about how awful it is that everyone has voted in the conservative government. Well, hang on, i'm disappointed that other parties didn't also get more seats but i'm not stamping around crying about it.

I'm confused.

Why can't we stamp around and cry about something that makes us feel stampy and lachrymose?

Are we just supposed to forget whoever we voted for yesterday and be super jolly happy?

What a weird comment, in a thread of weird comments.

I would be so happy today that I would have much better things to do than sit around bitching on a MN thread because some people felt differently.

Oh good grief. A little swipe at me was that? Grow up dear.

Says the OP who thinks "you shouldn't insult people just because they voted differently to you"

justonemoretime2p · 08/05/2015 15:02

I voted Tory and I'm not the gullible poor hating monster people are making me out to be, the rudeness from some of the left is pathetic especially since it's VE Day.

Shockers · 08/05/2015 15:02

Yanbu, but I guess this is the only place they can have their mini rants and stamp their feet as the results reflect their opinion doesn't count.

HmmHmmHmm

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 08/05/2015 15:04

Whose opinion doesn't count?

addstudentdinners2 · 08/05/2015 15:06

What has VE day going to do with it??

I was quoting an earlier poster who suggested that the opinion of anyone who didn't vote Conservative, didn't count.

Thurlow · 08/05/2015 15:13

How do you know that people supporting the OP on this thread also voted Tory, Cactus?

It's not about complaining that not everyone is happy that the Tories have formed a majority government.

The OP was saying, and others were agreeing, that calling people scum, wankers, disabled and poor haters etc because they voted Tory isn't on.

if you do something that has really shitty repercussions for real human beings, some of those real human beings are going to not like you very much as a result

This ^^ isn't something that is only going to happen because the Tories have formed a government. If Labour had formed a government, there would equally be people running the risk of "shitty repercussions" because a Labour government is more likely to cause problems within the private sector, leading to redundancies and the like.

PausingFlatly · 08/05/2015 15:14

Maybe justonemore means the left should be too busy celebrating the end of WWII leading to the landslide 1945 Labour victory, deposal of Churchill as a peacetime PM and introduction of the NHS and full welfare state?

Land fit for heroes, and all that.

PausingFlatly · 08/05/2015 15:17

I mean commemorating, rather than celebrating, don't I?

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 08/05/2015 15:18

If I think Tory voters are scum and poor haters why can't I say so?

Genuine question.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 08/05/2015 15:22

Tondelayo
Well, if you think that the 50%+ of voters in England (who voted Tory and UKIP) are scum you can say so. Its unlikely to encourage them to vote Labour next time, so whilst it might make you feel better now, it probably won't make you feel better in 5 years time.

starwarslegoboy · 08/05/2015 15:23

No YABVU

As I live in a democracy, I can exercise the right to say what I think, which is I think voting Tory is a selfish, cunty thing to do. And I am in the fortunate position that Tory policies tend to advantage my family.

Je Suis A Believer That Tories Are Cunts

Thurlow · 08/05/2015 15:23

Doesn't it come down to something like the MN guidelines, Tondelayo? As in, personal attacks not allowed?

I get what you're saying, and I know I'm struggling to get across what I mean... Just in general, really, saying "Tory voters are scum" is not much different from saying that "Muslims are idiots", "policemen are racist" or "bus drivers are thick"

It's a generic insult. You can say it, of course, you can say what you want - but equally don't be surprised when people call you out on it.
