I have a sicky feeling in the pit of my stomach that we are going to be lumbered with 5 more years of Tory rule. Please let it not be so.

I just want to know who's actually voting Tory. I know a wide range of people from different classes, professions and backgrounds and I don't know ONE person who voted Tory.

SoonToBeSix · 08/05/2015 06:48

Feel really let down by Scottish voters.

shewept · 08/05/2015 06:48

Cherry - a lot of it is disillusionment with all of them, not thinking any of them are worth backing

I want to know why labour has failed to reach these people though. Labour who oppose the cuts and say they want to make it better. Why don't they believe Ed? Why has he failed to bring them out to the polls?

Was the turnout better at the last election? I can't remember.

I thought it would be a high turnout. From my circles (works, school, hobby, socialising) I thought people were more engaged than this. This is the first election that I can remember where everyone seemed to be talking about it.

And actually in my extended family I have 3 relatives who are disabled. All of them voted conservative. They don't believe Ed Milliband will ever change anything and one became disabled in Iraq. He wouldn't trust Labour again.

Julius02 · 08/05/2015 06:48

Five acres - I believe that the reason many people have voted conservative is because we need a strong economy to survive. Whilst the current government is very far from perfect, economic recovery, although slow, is happening. I think many people want to see that continue.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 08/05/2015 06:48

Well obviously old Rupes doesn't want to advertise that people should be paying more tax, eh?

Hillingdon · 08/05/2015 06:49

I voted Tory. So did millions of others. What an odd question.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 08/05/2015 06:50

I don't know one Tory voter either.

Cherrybakewell33 · 08/05/2015 06:50

Hakluyt you talk a lot of sense, but you seem to have forgotten that obviously benefit claimants are the reason why the economy is screwed. Them damn poor people.

fixedit · 08/05/2015 06:50

It wasn't really a question tbf just a thought out loud.

shewept · 08/05/2015 06:50

fixed could it be that they said they weren't voting tory but did. Tory voters in this area get a lot of shit off people. The entire village is lined with labour boards?

eyebags63 · 08/05/2015 06:50

I watched the live coverage until 2:30am... now just woken up and it seems even worse than at 2:30am

I can't quite comprehend how so many people have voted Tory.... with what IDS has done to disabled people and Hunt on Health. Also, people seem to have voted in favour of the current government but against the Libdems.... that suggests people want an even MORE right wing Government?

Depressing and concerning. I fear for people that rely on the health service or any type of benefit now.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 08/05/2015 06:50

He wouldn't trust Labour again.

I think that's the issue. Labour has a tarnished name and it still hasnt recovered from that.

fixedit · 08/05/2015 06:52

I'm not sure. I feel sorry for ed milliband.

shewept · 08/05/2015 06:53

Sorry fixes I thought it was a question, was trying to grasp at straws for an answer. I know lots of tory voters. Mainly voted for tories because they didn't want to vote labour and didn't feel any of the other parties were for them.

Prole · 08/05/2015 06:53

The British press is mainly owned by non-doms: Rothermere, Lebedev and Murdoch who is, of course, a US citizen - so not exactly about our national interest.

That leaves Trinity Mirror and everyone's favourite porn baron, R. Desmond - not that the Daily Star is any kind of newspaper.

fixedit · 08/05/2015 06:54

Shekept My reply was to the pp who said it was an odd question. Snp can go fuck too.

Sylviecat · 08/05/2015 06:55

fixedit I thought the same. put me in mind of the Spitting Image song which included the line "voting Tory is like a fart, no-one admits they've done it" seriously where are these voters? Are they the same millions who purchased Robson and Jerome albums in the 90's and made them one of the most successful acts of all time and yet no one knows anyone who ever bought their music?

shewept · 08/05/2015 06:55

Tali I do think a large part of Labours dismal results are that people don't trust them. For alot of people their promises, written in fucking stone or not, don't mean much.

What its worth...the stone incident really did nit help millibands credibility

FujimotosElixir · 08/05/2015 06:55

Its is the80sweregreat "hardworking families translates into rich families, my mums a child psychotherapist and dad as teacher, these are the people the gov are screwing over! Not junkie benefit scum as they would have you believe, and if they are so interested in mums working why have they gotten rid of the funding childcare that was available a few years ago? When nurseries are so steep? ..makes me so angry ...so bloody transparent

shewept · 08/05/2015 06:57

Ah right fixed sorry, the thread is moving to fast for me. I need another coffee to keep up Grin

wowfudge · 08/05/2015 06:57

I voted Labour in a safe Labour seat, but I really struggled to decide how to vote. One of the biggest things for me is that I just don't find Ed has the gravitas/credibility as party leader that he needs to be PM.

fixedit · 08/05/2015 06:59

Ha sylviecat that made me smile Smile

JamNan · 08/05/2015 07:00

Why don't they believe Ed? Why has he failed to bring them out to the polls

Because they believed the lies printed in the Tory-owned press.

fixedit · 08/05/2015 07:01

shekept I need to go back to bed. I am bereft if truth be told. I genuinely thought Labour would have it.

The80sweregreat · 08/05/2015 07:01

Sylviecat, who bought Enya albums too? Made me smile, robson is a tory i think. He will be pleased!
