to think 'omg there's something WRONG with her FACE' when I see so many American actresses

Especially older ones. Their mouths don't move properly! It always looks like they're trying to hold in a mouthful of marbles. I think it's all the Botox and it gives me the creeps.

I find it really unfair that male actors are allowed to have foreheads and lips that actually MOVE while the moment women hit 28 or so they're supposed to become increasingly mannequin-like. Often too you see these frozen old-lady-dolls playing great characters and their weird, weird faces just makes me dislike them no matter what. AIBU to be creeped out by it? Should I just accept that this is the way the world is now?

I was fascinated by Denise Van Outen in Eastenders recently. Her top lip looked very odd. It didn't move at all.

Mrsjayy · 30/04/2015 12:44

It looks damaged her lip i mean very odd

Cocolepew · 30/04/2015 12:45

I think people like Susan Saradon and Helen Mirren either get very subtle changes or have had a face lift at a younger age.

noddyholder · 30/04/2015 12:51

I think Dench and Mirren have both had stuff done

HappenstanceMarmite · 30/04/2015 12:52

Joan Collins is all natural. Not a filler, scalpel or needle has touched her "just lucky with genetics" boat race.

JuneFromBethesda · 30/04/2015 12:52

Noooooo not Judi Dench!!! Sad

noddyholder · 30/04/2015 12:53

Lots of pictures of both smiling with mobile lower face and static brow

MamaLazarou · 30/04/2015 12:58

Sylvester Stallone suffered nerve damage at birth and has partial facial paralysis as a result. Its not really fair to criticise him for his looks, IMO.

Miggsie · 30/04/2015 13:04

Has Michelle Pfiefer had anything done?
Last time I saw he she was pretty natural - she really is stunning with fabulous bone structure...

I've always admired her after she said she'd never do nude stuff because it might embarrass her kids.

squoosh · 30/04/2015 13:05

No one's criticising the looks he was born with, he looked fine in Rocky and Rambo. But he's had extensive work done and just looks strange these days.

dexter73 · 30/04/2015 13:28

I think Emma Thompson looks fab and I don't think she has had any surgery. I think Kate Winslet has had some work done.

Mrsjayy · 30/04/2015 13:33

Jennifer saunders said on Tv ages ago she had a face lift she looks amazing i wonder why some look ok and some not so much i wonder if its the botox and fillers that make look odd

OTheHugeManatee · 30/04/2015 13:40

Stockard Channing looks completely bizarre in the Good wife now. I can't take my eyes off her. She almost doesn't look human.

Totally agree - she's actually one of the faces that prompted this thread. Her and Barbara Hershey. Totally uncanny-valley-ish Confused

Some people get it spot on. I give you the beautiful 61 year old Christie Brinkley.

Frostycake · 30/04/2015 13:49

some don't.

Jessica Lange. 62

squoosh · 30/04/2015 13:50

I love Jessica Lange as an actor, shame she felt the pressure to do that to herself.

Mrsjayy · 30/04/2015 13:54

Omg what has she done , christine obviously has a picture hidden in her loft somewhere

Sansarya · 30/04/2015 13:55

Ugh, Jessica Lange was so gorgeous in her youth too - just look at her in Tootsie. I don't get it, these women have money. So why not go to the best cosmetic surgeons out there?

VeryAgedParent · 30/04/2015 13:58

We were watching TV the other day when a beauty products advert came on it was a range owned and promoted by Victoria Principle....(are many of you old enough to remember her in Dallas in the 1970's?)
Well DH and I both commented that she didn't look any different to how she looked when she was on the show nearly 40 years ago!

She did marry a plastic surgeon though.

Pedallleur · 30/04/2015 14:02

They probably do but they'll all go to the same few plastic surgeons. Also there is only so much you can do. It's the human body and it's not like replacing eg a door panel on the car and having a respray. We age and change and the docs can't work miracles. neil diamond is looking 'young' in recent publicity shots. We'll see more and more of this as the next generation of actresses just regard surgery as normal, but hopefully don't use M.Rourke as a good example

Frostycake · 30/04/2015 14:12

I think it's all to do with your surgeon.

If you manage to find a good one with an artistic eye and a feather light touch, you'll look amazing. If on the other hand, you go to one who's just in it for the money (getting you in on a regular basis whether you need it or not, without an artistic eye) then you'll end up like Jessica.

I think Christie has probably had lots of laser work done (IPL, Fraxel, etc..) plus needling and a touch of botox and a blephroplasty. When her daughter had a nose job, Christie went in with her and I suspect she also had some work done because afterwards, she looked incredibly youthful and plump faced.

The duchess of Marlborough had her nose done, but the wax 'migrated'

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 30/04/2015 14:17

It makes them look half cut. I'm never sure who's had obscene levels of work/a stroke/a skinful Confused

IsadoraQuagmire · 30/04/2015 14:25

I think Jessica Lange is gorgeous now, but not so much when she was younger (I haven't seen Tootsie, but I've seen lots of her other movies)
