to think 'omg there's something WRONG with her FACE' when I see so many American actresses

Especially older ones. Their mouths don't move properly! It always looks like they're trying to hold in a mouthful of marbles. I think it's all the Botox and it gives me the creeps.

I find it really unfair that male actors are allowed to have foreheads and lips that actually MOVE while the moment women hit 28 or so they're supposed to become increasingly mannequin-like. Often too you see these frozen old-lady-dolls playing great characters and their weird, weird faces just makes me dislike them no matter what. AIBU to be creeped out by it? Should I just accept that this is the way the world is now?

Google kenny rodgers im sure his pal Dolly sent him her surgeons number

HellKitty · 30/04/2015 11:18

There's an 'entertainment' reporter on GMTV called Ross King (?). He used to present Pebble Mill (I am THAT old) and has been living in America for the past umpteen years reporting sleb shite. He was actually on the sofa with Lorraine today and he's got a little old lady face complete with bouffant and possible eyeliner. The oddest and scariest thing ever. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a dress made out of Lorraine's skin.

Thisishowyoudisappear · 30/04/2015 11:18

Yes, sometimes they look so good you know they're doing something, but it still looks natural, then suddenly it all goes wrong. Madonna springs to mind, she looked amazing for ages and now looks odd, though I doubt she cares too much about looking natural.

With men I often notice dyed hair, it can look very peculiar, perhaps because we're not used to seeing it so much.

Just looked at some pics of Courteney Cox. She does look 'done' now. It's a shame.

Sansarya · 30/04/2015 11:21

Re Kenny Rogers - apparently he's had so many facelifts that he now has to shave behind his ears!

CapnMurica · 30/04/2015 11:22

It's so weird isn't it.

I watched a film the other day (can't remember what it was called, it has Phillip Seymour Hoffman in it, it was set in Germany I think). One of the leading females was a Dutch (I think) actress.

She just looked so normal. About 35 or so, slim but not to the point of emaciation, some laughter lines but nothing major. She could move her face and she looked like a real person.

That's what I want to see. Real human beings. The pressure must be awful.

Mrsjayy · 30/04/2015 11:22

It must be addictive all that plumping and lifting and injecting they must know they dont lok human but like it anyway .btw liza was reported to have a mystery illness where she was partially paralysed maybe it affected her speech and face

Mrsjayy · 30/04/2015 11:25

I used to listen to Ross king on the wireless Radio before he was on pebble mill yes he looks like a little old lady

Sansarya · 30/04/2015 11:26

Personally I’ve always thought that Joan Collins should give her surgeon’s number to everyone because whatever she’s had done, it’s been done well!

Thisishowyoudisappear · 30/04/2015 11:27

Yes, Joan looks good, but I bet in real life she looks a bit strange. She wears a ton of makeup and a wig. Not a look for everyone!

Mrsjayy · 30/04/2015 11:34

Joan wears a tonne of make up bet she would be quite scary up close

Roussette · 30/04/2015 11:34

I saw Ross King this morning and my god he looked ridiculous. He has had dyed dark hair and now it's dyed chestnut. His eyebrows were coiffed and he had eyeliner on and false teeth. Wiki says he is 53 - he looks far older because of all the work he's had done!

Anyone see Nancy Sinatra on The One Show? Ridiculous! She was botoxed to within an inch of her life and looked Most Odd.

Mrsjayy · 30/04/2015 11:34

Oh xpost

Lweji · 30/04/2015 11:35

I think the problem for them is knowing where to stop.
If you tried to hide the first invisible wrinkles, when they really start coming, it must be overwhelming.

MargotLovedTom · 30/04/2015 11:36

I've got This Morning on and the difference between Sharleen Spiteri and Amanda Holden is unbelievable.

HellKitty · 30/04/2015 11:36

I'm so glad someone else saw Ross King this morning!

I do think anyone male or female (and a lot of men do it too) looks unsettling when their face is behaving in ways that your instinct tells you it can't behave naturally. As a PP said it's fascinating and compelling, because you are naturally drawn to scrutinise and be amazed by a face that doesn't look quite human.

I don't agree that women have to do it – yes there may be pressure on them and some succumb to it but there are fabulous actresses who don't do it, or certainly not to the extent that they get that weird non-human look. I recently watched Olive Kitteridge (fab would recommend it) with Frances McDormand playing a woman who ages from her 40s to old age and she was amazing, no sign of plastic face and she is still working in her 50s and doing great. We should remember that just because there may be pressure on actors, doesn't mean they have to cave and we should applaud those who don't. I also think if you make your face too weird you won't get so many great parts. Courtney Cox may be doing it for her own reasons but if it's to get top parts it's not particularly successful - I don't mean to be a bitch but I don't actually see the best parts only going to people with that look.

HellKitty · 30/04/2015 11:37

Sharleen's skin looks fabulous.

ScaryMaryHinge · 30/04/2015 11:37

I saw Sigorney Weaver being interviewed on TV recently, she clearly hasn't gone down the Botox and fillers route and she looked great. Of course it helps that she's got great bone structure and has the kind of look which ages well, but it was still refreshing.

Some actresses just end up looking so bizarre, but I do wonder if it's all around you as it must be in Hollywood then you stop seeing overdone faces as weird and it just become the norm.

RustyParker · 30/04/2015 11:37

I've met Joan Collins and in real life she looks like she's been in a wind tunnel up close. Her make up is immaculate though and she clearly just doesn't rely on botox or surgery and tries to maintain her skin. She's just on the right side of surgery I think.

Roussette · 30/04/2015 11:38

Having nothing done never hurt Dame Judi Dench!

Mrsjayy · 30/04/2015 11:39

AH tred to be sympathetic to a guest the other day quite difficult with a non moving face she head tilted instead

OTheHugeManatee · 30/04/2015 11:39

Well if Liza had an illness that partly paralysed her face then I take it all back But my point stands for so many of them. It's got to the point where you just never see a lovely looking older woman who looks, y'know, older. Well, they do look older usually but just not in a natural way. More like they've been coated with some sort of vinyl and then melted a bit. Gillian Anderson, Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren all look fairly normal (albeit with fabulous genes!) but American older actresses? Not so much. I just hate that it's so normalised Sad

Angelina Jolie was on example where when she started the results were subtle and actually enchanced her appearance but nowadays she's botoxed up to the hilt and it looks overdone and odd.

Amanda Holden has spent too much time with Simon Cowell.

Mrsjayy · 30/04/2015 11:41

I adore Dame Judi she looks amazing beautiful woman
