Why does Mumsnet now have a Scotsnet section?

I've just noticed that Scotnset now has it's very own section (came up in Active) this was news to me! Is it recent?
Isn't it encouraging segregation? Confused
How about we also have these sections:

Irishnet, Welshnet, Englishnet, and so on?

nickers if you want a Englishnet section knock yourself out Hen.

I can't imagine why you think the Scots would care or stand in your way.

Golferman · 26/04/2015 19:36

I'm surprised there is not a Sex Forum on Mumsnet.

backwardpossom · 26/04/2015 19:37

Oh, absolutely ItsAll - it wasn't a criticism, just an observation. :)

Christinayangstwistedsister · 26/04/2015 19:39

I know... And you wonder why we drink! It's purely to keep out the cold!

Viviennemary · 26/04/2015 19:39

It was requested quite a while ago. It's a good idea. Lots of things are different in Scotland. Inheritance rules, property law and so on. NHS. And will be a lot more different perhaps after May 7th.

Bambambini · 26/04/2015 19:40

Ashy does Mn have an Englishness - that came way first.

likalixer · 26/04/2015 19:40

BitOfFun I'm up for Scousenet
Scousenet, now that has a nice ring to it.

Mumsnet, can we have Scousenet? and if we are really really good, also a Sexnet? Wink

Bambambini · 26/04/2015 19:41

Or even - why does Mnet have an englishnet?

SwirlyThingAlert · 26/04/2015 19:41

Can we have YorkshireNet as well? We can all talk proper Yorkshire.
"Ey up" and cunt is a perfectly acceptable word to portray the fact that you can't do something. Not an insult.
"I cunt do it."
I use the c word on a regular basis. Smile

Moln · 26/04/2015 19:42

Are you sure Christin? Hmmm it might be a trap, or have you all be kettled into there?

I think an Irishnet would be handy, for example when I've specific questions about health or education. A lot of answers (though helpful) from someone in Scotland, Wales or England don't realise the cost implications of their suggestions.

MorrisZapp · 26/04/2015 19:42

Nobody cares if there's an Englishnet. Go for it. MNHQ are always open to decent arguments for creating new sections.

Christinayangstwistedsister · 26/04/2015 19:42

I think we need to be very bad to get a sexnet

Momagain1 · 26/04/2015 19:42

What purpose it serves of remains to be seen, it is just a wee forum, not a month old. The thought behind it is a place for questions about schools, the legalities and procedures of home purchases, divorces, or the NHS. Because currently, such either get buried due to lack of response, or given answers that reflect the English systems. Or go unasked because of expecting /having seen that in the past. The forum also may fulfill some of the purposes of mumsnet local, as many of the locals are just too small to be useful.

Those in other major regions can certainly do as we did: post the suggestion in the site issues forum, and see where the discussion leads. Seems like N. Ireland might be different enough to need one, for that matter, there are lots of Non-UK MNers, perhaps there are enough Irish they would want a forum. I honestly dont know if Wales, Cornwall or other places encounter the same 'can't get a proper answer' situation as prompted ours, or if their local forums fulfill that need better than ours. But if anyone can try it on and see.

And you dont need to be in Scotland to follow the postings or look in the forum. Just interested.

Eigg · 26/04/2015 19:43

Just out if interest have those of you who are peeved about Scotsnet actually looked at the section?

Nothing in any way divisive on there at all. I don't think there's even any political threads just at the moment.

We're not exactly planning a civil war folks.

tabulahrasa · 26/04/2015 19:43

"To be fair, I'm not sure that posters outside of Scotland actually realise how different education/legal etc is in Scotland (sorry if this is a gross misrepresentation - its just the impression I get)"

Well no, and it's not the case that they should...just that if you've got an issue, it makes posting for advice a bit hard, lol.

Moln · 26/04/2015 19:43

Maybe MN should just replace the local boards with a map with net spots on.

CloserToFiftyThanTwenty · 26/04/2015 19:44

The "Living Overseas" section already caters to posters not living in the UK

Bambambini · 26/04/2015 19:45

"To be fair, I'm not sure that posters outside of Scotland actually realise how different education/legal etc is in Scotland (sorry if this is a gross misrepresentation - its just the impression I get)"

But that's the whole issue. It's the presumption that the majority way is the only way. Like when people talk of white privilege. It's ignorance.

likalixer · 26/04/2015 19:46

Seriously, why NOT a Sexnet? Confused

It could come under Relationships. A lot of other sites have sections for all things sexy time.
Lets face it - MN'rs would really do it justice!

Roseformeplease · 26/04/2015 19:48

BTW my post about a referendum was a joke. I was a leading light of the Mumsnet No campaign. A different board is not the first step to separation!

Christinayangstwistedsister · 26/04/2015 19:48

Although after penis beaker, armpit shagging and more recently" the homemade vibrator" where is there to go? ( I shall regret saying that)

likalixer · 26/04/2015 19:51

You see? Those topics have no proper home
Those topics need a proper Home!

PerspicaciaTick · 26/04/2015 19:51

I think that some sort of sexnet has been discussed on and off for years. IIRC MNHQ seem to feel that it would act as a magnet for trolls looking for somewhere to offload their sexual peculiarities at the expense of MNers looking for genuine support.

UnoPan · 26/04/2015 19:51

" I was a leading light of the Mumsnet No campaign." oh don't be so modest Rose! Wink

likalixer · 26/04/2015 19:53

Yeah, you would probably get all the pervs of the day posting on Sexnet. It would be a nightmare for MN to patrol.
