I don't fit in. I'm old (55), Scottish, sent my DC to private school, not feminist, vaguely right wing, love my DH of 28 years, love red meat, etc. etc. Although I do love Mumsnet. What can I do?

hobNong · 25/04/2015 00:17

I think you mean English, vegetarian, lesbian man-haters.

hobNong · 25/04/2015 00:18

And hairy.

hobNong · 25/04/2015 00:20

I'm really hairy actually. It is true.

Momagain1 · 25/04/2015 00:26

I can understand about feeling a little bemused at the not Scottishness on mumsnet. But that has been resolved. Just go here if you need a break. Scotsnet

(American, 50, living in Scotland, once LTB but now love my husband. Once vegetarian, but it was work. A feminist by life experience.)

Whatthefucknameisntalreadytake · 25/04/2015 00:27

Me too hobNong, me too.

ComposHatComesBack · 25/04/2015 00:43

Orlando when I was at Cambridge one of the courses I took was also offered to the education students. It was called the sociology of education or something similar. I'm nothing to write home about brains wise, but some of the education students - fuck me they were as thick as shite in the neck of a bottle.

We'd spent two, two hour supervisions talking about theories of education and class and the supervisor had been talking about marx and the proletariat.

One of the education students asked 'the pro-literate you keep talking about, does that mean people who could read or were in favour of reading.'

I shit thee nay.

butterflyballs · 25/04/2015 00:48

Not overly keen on Kate Bush. More of a manic street preachers fan. Sorry!

I'm glad I'm not the only non-boden wearing person.

I don't wear birkenstocks either. Whatever the fuck they are?

I'm too old to care what anyone thinks of what I'm Like in terms of style or clothing or labels. We live on the beach all summer and spend a lot of the time on a friend's farm or crashing about in the woods getting wet and muddy.

I'd rather be judged for the lovely person I am. And I am lovely. I would do anything to help someone if they need it. As long as they understand I'll be wearing jeans.

derxa · 25/04/2015 04:30

I've got hairy legs and wear Birkenstock sandals (not at the same time). Are they badges of honour?

Stop with the clichés about Mumsnetters, my eyes hurt.

There is no MN type here any more.

There are tons of right wingers too sadly

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 25/04/2015 06:21

These threads always degenerate into

"I'm so cool and unMN. I eat McDs for every meal, get my husbands pipe and slippers ready for him coming in from work and vote UKIP".

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 25/04/2015 06:38

For 1000 posts.

TiggyD · 25/04/2015 08:30

I'm not a real MNetter. I'm a man. [shame]

I also suspect that I'm not a real person. I feel like my life is badly written by somebody who gave me lots of interesting features, but then wrote an incredibly boring and tedious plot. I'd like a refund.

Pagwatch · 25/04/2015 09:06

There is also very little interest in Boden - that was a thing about five years ago.
The cliches are ridiculous. Stop it"
It's a huge, huge group of people who are not defined by a bunch of worn out nonsensical bollocks.

Half of the things in the op apply to me. You fit in if you like to chat about bollocks. if you don't you probably shouldn't be on a chat forum.

Some of the 'oh I don't fit in' is actually just an list of ways in which you feel superior to others in a 'gosh, I'm so different and out there' way. It's foolish.

hobNong · 25/04/2015 09:22

Wow Tiggy, I'd say that the reverse of that is me! I'm a dull and tedious person but my life has been way too interesting. Luckily it's started to bore down since I had dd so I'm quite pleased about that.

minkGrundy · 25/04/2015 09:31

I find MN to be disproportionately hooching with Scots infiltrators. Bit like Westminster and anywhere else in the UK where stuff needs sorted Wink

I reckon half of MN are Nicola Sturgeon furiously sock puppeting.

lionheart · 25/04/2015 10:02

I scribbly hair a thing now?

lionheart · 25/04/2015 10:02

Is.

Pagwatch · 25/04/2015 10:36

I hope so. I have scribbley hair.

lionheart · 25/04/2015 10:40

I like scribbly hair and also Kate Bush.

usualsuspect333 · 25/04/2015 10:47

I like red meat. I've just had a sausage sandwich.

Instituteofstudies · 25/04/2015 10:53

Nah, there are all sorts on here, young, older, male, straight, gay, transgender etc, and of every political persuasion. Seen a fair few private school threads and loads of minced beef ones. As others have said, there's no set type of MNer.

hobNong · 25/04/2015 11:35

I actually am a vegetarian Blush

hobNong · 25/04/2015 11:35

And a labour supporter

WilburIsSomePig · 25/04/2015 11:42

I smell a 'look at me I'm so different from anyone else here, aren't I quirky' post.

I'm Scottish too. Go me.

derxa · 25/04/2015 11:58

OK. I've been called amongst other things, 'condescending', 'foolish', 'an early teen' and 'attention seeking'. I don't mind any of that as I have posted in AIBU and was expecting a caning. Good luck to you all. I'm not going to flounce off to Flouncer's Corner though.
