I don't fit in. I'm old (55), Scottish, sent my DC to private school, not feminist, vaguely right wing, love my DH of 28 years, love red meat, etc. etc. Although I do love Mumsnet. What can I do?

OP posts:
GlitzAndGigglesx · 24/04/2015 12:33

I do often look at women and think to myself I bet she's on mumsnet Blush

DamFineBeaver · 24/04/2015 12:34

Hmm, difficult one.

Surely with those credentials you like a stiff drink at exactly 6.30pm? Because there's a start, at least...

TedAndLola · 24/04/2015 12:35

I don't think I consider myself a feminist because I am not completely pro-choice.

I do believe in equal rights for women however.

How can you believe in equal rights for women but not want them to have bodily autonomy?

Sparklingbrook · 24/04/2015 12:35

I think you are right Wind-the everything contained in the box bit, definitely.

I don't eat red meat. I had no idea that made me a proper Mumsnetter. Smile

Nobody laughed Sad
Netmums have wee glittery tickers Smile

TedAndLola · 24/04/2015 12:36

Nobody laughed

I thought it was funny, I just didn't comment Smile

FinallyHere · 24/04/2015 12:37

How about being thankful that we are all different, that there is no 'one size fits all' ?.

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 24/04/2015 12:38

And I was also pulled up yesterday for a previous post where I said " I thought men hating was a MN pre-requisite" - there is a very strong feeling of all men are bastards on here

wetspringtime · 24/04/2015 12:38

Ted - because men and women's bodies aren't the same so things can never be 'equal' in that respect. I believe women should be able to access a termination but not after 12 weeks unless the grounds to do so are exceptional.

If that means I don't want women to have full bodily autonomy then I am guilty as charged and not a feminist.

itsnotmeitsyou1 · 24/04/2015 12:39

Oh Gawd, don't mention you're not a feminist on here. It automatically means you hate your own gender, and a complete uneducated buffoon. It doesn't matter if you do believe in equality, someone will find a reason to berate you for how you label yourself.

Dont let anyone judge you as a woman with her own views, unless it's another woman Wink.

Oscarandelliesmum · 24/04/2015 12:39

Know what you mean Glitz...I think if mumsnet were a woman she would be a bright, amusing, slightly ascerbic, naice ham chomping, scarf wearing creature. Fearsome to behold. I am too placatory and too sloppy of spelling to be a 'true' mumsnetter.

Oscarandelliesmum · 24/04/2015 12:42

Jackie, it made me snort Grin

Sparklingbrook · 24/04/2015 12:43

I think to be a real Mumsnetter you have to not give a shiny what other Mumsnetters think. It's the only way.

DamFineBeaver · 24/04/2015 12:48

This is the face of the average woman in England.
Unless you look exactly like this, you can't live in England.

I can't be English because I don't have this face (and my hair's not as scribbly).

And extend to MN...

derxa · 24/04/2015 12:53

I don't have scribbly hair.

OP posts:
DamFineBeaver · 24/04/2015 12:53

That's because you're from Scotland.

derxa · 24/04/2015 12:56

I am pro-choice. I have 2 degrees( and PGCE from Oxbridge) My mother went to univ. in 1950s. Yet still I do not fit in.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 24/04/2015 12:58

If you enjoy talking to people, you fit in - you just may not realize it.

HappenstanceMarmite · 24/04/2015 13:04

If you were of child bearing age, would you carry your baby in a sling or buggy? I think that is a defining question...

Anniegetyourgun · 24/04/2015 13:07

Are you posting on Mumsnet? Are you real? Then my dear, you are a real Mumsnetter.

Pity about the right wing Grin but then again, some posters are quite strongly so. Not all are from the South East of England. Or any other part of England. Or the northern hemisphere. Not all are mums; not all are women. Some may have degrees, some missed out on GCSEs. There may be a "typical" demographic but very few regular posters are likely to fit it to a T (like a mean average, it's possible that no-one at all is exactly on that line).

Bottom line is: if you like it, please stay.

Bluestocking · 24/04/2015 13:09

How can you have a PGCE from "Oxbridge"? It's not a real place. Perhaps you meant Uxbridge? Or Ambridge?

OrlandoWoolf · 24/04/2015 13:09

This is MN.

We're all different

Pyjamaschocolateandwine · 24/04/2015 13:12

Hairy bollicks op.

The more diversity the better the debate. Smile

You can't help being Scottish can you?Wink

OneDayWhenIGrowUp · 24/04/2015 13:16

Am I missing something? Why do you feel you don't fit in?

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 24/04/2015 13:17

That "average" woman is a stunner.
