to wish I could vote ukip loud and proud

I've nc for this, as I generally have to in life.

I'm voting ukip, I live in Peterborough where we have had massive immigration. The affects have been huge. Enlargement of EU distroyed dh building business overnight. The schools are close to bursting and have to do a school run to two different schools, had a 5 hour wait in a and e. Teenage son struggles to get part time farm work like I did when I was a teenager. House prices are out of control, god knows how any of mine will ever leave home.

I'm not saying all of these are 100% to do with uncontrolled immigration, but it has Made the problems so much worse.

I'm not racist, most of my friends are 2nd gen Asians or homophobic, my brother and his husband visit a lot.

I just want an oz type points immigration system. I don't care that lots are highly skilled, that is often very bad as it leads to a brain drain in other countries and my children will have to compete with the worlds most ambitious and motivated people.

I just want to be able to express these thoughts but I'm shamed into hiding them by the media.

Oh and people coming on and saying "nobody's allowed to discuss immigration" on one the ten gazillion threads discussing immigration.

ghostyslovesheep · 22/04/2015 21:37

how is it hypocritical to argue against ignorance with facts - unless secretly we are all voting UKIP (I'd rather bugger myself with a cactus to be honest)

GiddyOnZackHunt · 22/04/2015 21:41

What do you want to discuss about immigration then?

Fromparistoberlin73 · 22/04/2015 21:42

I have never seen a sensible conversation on here to be honest people seem to have very black and white views . Or maybe polarised is a better term

But ukip are raising in popularity for reason and I think dismissing them all as mad racists is risky that's all

Look at the nazis

You got to know your enemy...

parsnipbob · 22/04/2015 21:42

Fromparis because immigration 'fears' are not based on fact, they're based on daily mail bullshit.

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 22/04/2015 21:44

Hmm, I don't really understand what you're saying Paris. No-one's dismissing UKIP because they are mad racists. People are telling people not to vote for them because they are mad racists.

Fromparistoberlin73 · 22/04/2015 21:45

That's exactly what I mean. If every single concern around immigration is termed as 'daily mail bullshit ' I think that's a polarised view to be honest .

My kids are half immigrant by the way ! As are all their mates - I love it and I love the diversity .

But we do need to listen to concerns that's all I am saying

Listen - not necessarily act

parsnipbob · 22/04/2015 21:49

....it IS daily mail bullshit. People believe what is sold to them by the media.

Listen to concerns by all means, but when you prove those concerns aren't valid, they don't listen! That's the issue.

Kampeki · 22/04/2015 21:49

OP, you have an absolute right to vote for the party that you choose. We live in a democracy, and that's how it works.

And I have the right to draw my own conclusions about your character, on the basis of what you say about yourself.

I have travelled widely, and lived in several different countries, but I genuinely don't know what is meant by the "British way of life". Does that mean afternoon tea at the Ritz or drunken yobbish behaviour in town centres on a Friday night?

I used to live in a very monocultural white British area. Now, I live in an extremely diverse area where immigrants represent a substantial proportion of the population. I have far more in common with my neighbours here than I did where I lived before. I don't care what country people were born in, I care whether they are nice people.

PeachyPants · 22/04/2015 21:50

UKIP supporters I know aren't racists of the people I know who are saying they are voting UKIP I think only one of them seems to think immigration is a major issue anyway. The others I think see UKIP as an anti-establishment party or feel strongly that the UK would be best out outside of the EU.

Kampeki · 22/04/2015 21:51

My kids are half immigrant by the way ! As are all their mates - I love it and I love the diversity

How can you be half immigrant? Were they born on a plane or something?

Mrsbird311 · 22/04/2015 21:52

If you have read their manifesto and agree with their proposed policies then by all means vote uk, however they are highly unlikely to get majority and then you will end up with ed milliband as your prime minister and no hope of a referendum on getting out of the eu , even Nigel farrage has said to his supporters if it's. An area where ukip has no chance of getting a seat vote Tory or lose your right to a referendum as only the Tories have promised this and labour has outright refused!! As for being unreasonable, no, you can vote how you like, most of my friends vote labour, im a true Tory , it causes no issues between us , your vote, your choice, bugger em!!!

parsnipbob · 22/04/2015 21:53

Kampeki I think our friend daffsandtulips would be at home on this thread. Smile

catgirl1976 · 22/04/2015 21:53

I need to know what a British way of life is. Otherwise I might not live it and then clearly, we are all fucked :(

Please say. Does it involve being White, COE, eating roast beef on a Sunday and enjoying soaps? (If so it's too late for me, I can only manage one of those criteria. I shall have to move somewhere forrin.)

TondelayoSchwarzkopf · 22/04/2015 21:58

I'd always hoped that the main British value is individualism. The idea that we should have things in common with our fellow citizens should be an anathema to right thinking British people of all colours and creeds.

keepitsimple0 · 22/04/2015 21:58

Why can't you have a points based system for Europe and the rest of the world instead of free movement for Europe and points for rest of world? Why is that racist? Isn't it fairer? I can see it can't be done if we are part of European union, but what is wrong with that principle?

because what UKIP is proposing is impossible.

They want to have free trade without free movement of people. for one thing, the EU would never go for it. The EU will be vindictive and petty if the UK wanted to leave, because they wouldn't want to set a precedent. For a second this, that will hurt the exact people they say it will help: workers. Workers are the only people that will lose rights and movement in such a system. How that's supposed to help workers is beyond me.

The problem isn't immigration, it's britain's dysfunctional housing system. other countries use this as an opportunity to build infrastructure and housing. we just can't.

Kampeki · 22/04/2015 21:58

Kampeki I think our friend daffsandtulips would be at home on this thread.

Yes indeed. Grin

roundtable · 22/04/2015 21:59

This seems appropriate to this thread.

to wish I could vote ukip loud and proud
parsnipbob · 22/04/2015 22:00

Round table brilliant!!!

PisforPeter · 22/04/2015 22:02

I would like a Tory UKIP coalition.

Mypubesarestraight · 22/04/2015 22:03

I live in a small village near the welsh border.
The past 10 years our village has had a huge influx of Eastern Europeans. It's crazy how much village life has changed.

They stick to their own little community and so do the locals. It's sad really.

I can see the problems we have now and it's only going to get worse. There is a lot of racial tension where I live, especially because out of the 29 council homes only 8 house British families.

The school is swamped and so is the doctors. It's not the migrants fault. I blame the government for not preparing towns and villages for the migrants.

dingit · 22/04/2015 22:04

That will mean my labour campaigning lesbian cousin will emigrate Hmm

parsnipbob · 22/04/2015 22:04

Mypubes there can't be 'racial' tension, given that Eastern Europeans are also Caucasian.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 22/04/2015 22:05

Paris - people don't usually start the threads in a measured ways so as said up thread it gets polarised. UKIP blaming the woes of the present day on the EU and 'other' immigrants just starts any discussion on the wrong foot.

cruikshank · 22/04/2015 22:08

Where on earth is this place where you 'can't discuss' immigration? People never fucking shut up about it, mostly the bigots jawing on about 'British values' and how we are being 'swamped' etc.
