to wish I could vote ukip loud and proud

Mumof4worried · 22/04/2015 19:09

I've nc for this, as I generally have to in life.

I'm voting ukip, I live in Peterborough where we have had massive immigration. The affects have been huge. Enlargement of EU distroyed dh building business overnight. The schools are close to bursting and have to do a school run to two different schools, had a 5 hour wait in a and e. Teenage son struggles to get part time farm work like I did when I was a teenager. House prices are out of control, god knows how any of mine will ever leave home.

I'm not saying all of these are 100% to do with uncontrolled immigration, but it has Made the problems so much worse.

I'm not racist, most of my friends are 2nd gen Asians or homophobic, my brother and his husband visit a lot.

I just want an oz type points immigration system. I don't care that lots are highly skilled, that is often very bad as it leads to a brain drain in other countries and my children will have to compete with the worlds most ambitious and motivated people.

I just want to be able to express these thoughts but I'm shamed into hiding them by the media.

And how much money are we going to contribute to countries like Italy and Greece who by accident of geography happen to be closer to some of the world's trouble spots?

BIWI · 24/04/2015 13:30

On what basis, rich? That's a totally chilling statement to make. Shock

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/04/2015 13:38

rich that just shows your ignorance on immigration. That's actually been the treaty for decades. Practical application has proven to be complex in many cases.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/04/2015 13:40

And would require more to spent on funding the extra staff to do it. Which I guess you'd be against.

Lweji · 24/04/2015 13:46

Rich's proposition means that the nearest "safe" countries are lumbered with all asylum seekers.
Asylum is fine just as long as they are out of our sights, and we can have a Comic Relief day every year, I suppose.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 24/04/2015 13:48

Where are your sources which say this is regularly happening, rich?

sourdrawers · 24/04/2015 13:56

It's actually bollocks to claim that Asylum seekers are all making a bee - line for this country. The industrialised country receiving the largest number of asylum-seekers in 2014 to the present, is Germany, with over 173,000 applications, according to a recent UNHCR report. In fact the top five receiving countries are Germany, US, Turkey, Sweden, and Italy. These accounted for 60 per cent of all new asylum claims.

We're actually quite a long way down the list which is ironic when you consider that most of these displaced people come from Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan and Syria. Funny enough the countries we've (Britain) invaded, been dropping bombs on and sponsoring terrorists groups within.

richthegreatcornholio · 24/04/2015 13:58

That's actually been the treaty for decades

I'm fully aware of that. As you say it's the application of the rules that's the problem.

And as far as a source, I think you only need to visit Calais to see for yourself. They choose not to claim asylum in France as they will get more handouts in the UK. A quick google will even find you asylum seekers confirming this themselves.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/04/2015 14:03

It does happen a fair bit (proportionally) to be fair. People coming over the Channel or transitting through EU airports/ports. Proving it soundly enough to persuade that country to take them back to that third country isn't possible in many cases.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/04/2015 14:07

So if you pick someone up on the M25 and they have no papers where do you send them back to? How do you know whether they came through France? Why should the French/Dutch/Germans take our word for it?

grovel · 24/04/2015 14:14

Easy. If you're UKIP, you send them back to Bongo Bongo land.

merrymouse · 24/04/2015 14:23

And you think Farage is the man to persuade the French to keep the immigrants in Calais and everybody else to take their immigrants back, once we have left Europe?

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/04/2015 14:25

If you find someone hiding in an airport toilet how do you know which flight they came off?

Dawndonnaagain · 24/04/2015 14:29

Oh look, Rich, facts and figures. This should make it easy for you.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/04/2015 14:29

Exactly Merry. There will be far less co operation. Will the French continue to let the UKBA operate in their country? How carefully will lorries coming from the continent be checked? How long will the fences at Calais be maintained? And how many public sector jobs will be needed to man Fortress UKIP?

Dawndonnaagain · 24/04/2015 14:30

A quick google will also tell you Rich that we have one of the lowest welfare payouts in Europe. Hmm

Lweji · 24/04/2015 14:46

And as far as a source, I think you only need to visit Calais to see for yourself.

That "data source" doesn't tell you how many have entered France and have actually decided to stay there.

sourdrawers · 24/04/2015 14:52

You don't think it's down to the fact that there's more work to be had here as our economy demands cheap labour Giddy? Y'know them bastards nicking jobs from British workers like picking cockles on Morecambe Bay?

These people cross continents looking for 'handouts'? If they do they haven't done their research, they get more benefits in Belgium, Holland, Italy and Germany than they're entitled to here.

How do you feel about the fact that Britain has admitted a mere 143 refugees from Islamic State barbarism in Syria? Despite the UK supporting the U.S and the Gulf States which created the Syrian civil war in the first place?

That's a bit complicated though eh? Them over there, it's all their fault!

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/04/2015 14:56

I think you've either read my posts wrong sour or confused me with rich. I'm pointing out that the law is currently to remove third country asylum claimants and that there are myriad difficulties in doing so that won't be made any better by UKIP.

sourdrawers · 24/04/2015 15:00

my apologies

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/04/2015 15:00

And just to be very clear I have dealt with asylum seekers whose stories are heartbreaking and I would defy anyone even Farage to remain unmoved.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 24/04/2015 15:01

:) Sour

cruikshank · 24/04/2015 16:08

This is often trotted out as some kind of common sense solution, which makes me feel quite sad. Hopefully, I will never be in the position of being set adrift from the nation I have spent my life in, of being stateless. But if I were, I would at least want to hold onto the last semblance of self-determination left to me and decide myself where is the best place for me and my family to go to. It could be that I speak the language of the country, even just a little, or that I remember a happy holiday there, or that I feel a cultural connection to the place, or that I have other family there, or even just an acquaintance who can help me with the difficult and stressful transition of leaving my homeland behind in fear of my very life, and starting again elsewhere. Is that really too much to ask? That, having been forced to leave my home, I can at least decide where my next home will be?

BIWI · 24/04/2015 16:55

I sometimes wonder if people actually understand the meaning of the word 'asylum'. Never mind why people might need it.

sourdrawers · 24/04/2015 17:09

Not sure those are inclined to vote UKIP are interested in concepts such as 'understanding' and 'root cause' or even 'where the blame really lies' BIWI!

Far simpler to focus their general resentments on anyone they see as other to themselves.
