to wish I could vote ukip loud and proud

I've nc for this, as I generally have to in life.

I'm voting ukip, I live in Peterborough where we have had massive immigration. The affects have been huge. Enlargement of EU distroyed dh building business overnight. The schools are close to bursting and have to do a school run to two different schools, had a 5 hour wait in a and e. Teenage son struggles to get part time farm work like I did when I was a teenager. House prices are out of control, god knows how any of mine will ever leave home.

I'm not saying all of these are 100% to do with uncontrolled immigration, but it has Made the problems so much worse.

I'm not racist, most of my friends are 2nd gen Asians or homophobic, my brother and his husband visit a lot.

I just want an oz type points immigration system. I don't care that lots are highly skilled, that is often very bad as it leads to a brain drain in other countries and my children will have to compete with the worlds most ambitious and motivated people.

I just want to be able to express these thoughts but I'm shamed into hiding them by the media.

Of course you'd still be voting UKIP.
The economy would still have been in a shit state of affairs, regardless of immigration.
NHS waiting times would still be long, regardless of immigration.
Schools in some areas would still be oversubscribed, regardless of immigration.
But you'd still vote UKIP because you'd still allow yourself to believe immigration had caused those issues.
How do I know?
Because immirgration hasn't caused those issues. But you believe it has so you'll vote UKIP. It wouldn't matter if we'd had 200 or 200,000 immigrants. You'd still blame them and you'd still vote UKIP
Because that is what you are doing now

Calm Down Dear.

Not true, immigration was never an issue before last labour gov.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 23/04/2015 16:59

Didn't Nige make Immigration his main topic on the debate the other week? Without being asked by anyone?

Lweji · 23/04/2015 16:59

I will also add that the UK is recovering from the economic crisis, despite the "issue of immigration", somehow.
It will probably recover much better than where I live, which is draining of people.

catgirl1976 · 23/04/2015 17:00

The two instances are very comparable.

When there are economic crises then people are more likely to move to extremes and blame groups of individuals (Jews, Immigrants etc) for the problems, regardless of whether or not these groups caused the issues.

ElectraCute · 23/04/2015 17:00

goldy - you're kidding, right? Did you actually watch the last leaders' debate? Farage brought immigration into every answer, and when the audience made it clear they wished he'd bloody well talk about something else for a bit, he started attacking them!

Go ahead, vote UKIP. See what happens.

goldylookingpane · 23/04/2015 17:01

thing is, Labour admitted they made a massive mistake regarding immigration, they're still admitting it now ! Unchecked immigration/ migration, what ever you want to call it, has caused problems, if it hadn't no one would be supporting UKIP - it really is that simple.

Labour has basically wrecked this country and left a mess for everybody else to clear up.
If they get in, I might consider emigrating myself Smile

mrleebob · 23/04/2015 17:03

Here's what I don't understand. You want an Aussie style points system but you also don't want intelligent or skilled people coming because they'd be more employable than your children. How would your points system work? Who exactly would qualify?

Painfulbits · 23/04/2015 17:17

Out of interest, are EU citizens in the UK allowed to vote?

CookieDoughKid · 23/04/2015 17:18

The Guardian released a special titled 'How to fix the NHS' written by various qualified professionals working in the NHS. Doctors, consultants, ambulance etc..not one mentioned the cause is immigration. The NHS pressures are due to a number of factors including an aging population, rising obesity and many other lifestyle caused illnesses. Please do your research on the NHS and look at this in depth. Its a very complex issue and one which will not be fixed in the short lifecycle of a political party actively in reign.

goldylookingpane · 23/04/2015 17:20

Some countries with a points systems work it so that if they are short of a particular skill, then people are more likely to get in if they have that particular skill.
So if there is a serious shortage of teachers this year, then you are more likely to get in if you are a teacher.
If there are too many teachers, but a shortage of for example, plumbers or the building trade.
then you would likely get in if you had those skills, because they need that particular skill at that particular time

CookieDoughKid · 23/04/2015 17:21

Just to clarify, the 5 year political cycle is not a good way to run the NHS. We need a much longer plan.

ragged · 23/04/2015 17:21

Home Sec. Michael Howard was making bold frequent statements about Asylum Seekers back in the 1990s, immigration was already an issue then, just a different type.

UKIP plan moratorium on unskilled workers for 5 yrs accompanied with a points/desired skills list system. So professionals would still get in albeit perhaps in limited numbers, but not Polish fruit pickers for at least 5 yrs.

goldylookingpane · 23/04/2015 17:23

The Guardian! It must be TRUE! Because you can read everything you believe in that paper Hmm

cruikshank · 23/04/2015 17:24

Sorry for clearly not rtentireft but I do hope someone has pointed out that, in the UK at least, the only truly indigenous people are the Celts?

So, as a truly indigenous person, I say: Get tae fuck, the lot oan yes.

CookieDoughKid · 23/04/2015 17:24

Also, the UK economy is propped up by immigrants. Without immigrants we'd be fucked and the clever rich & influential people including businesses know this. It's the ignorant uneducated social working class likely to blame immigration and follow UKip views because they haven't been added to do the work to really understand the UK's current state of affairs.

CookieDoughKid · 23/04/2015 17:26

No I don't believe in the paper. I believe in the NHS people they interviewed who WROTE the friggin article.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 23/04/2015 17:26

Funny how the kippers complain that they want to discuss other stuff until you try to engage with them on other topics. Oh well.

Gobbolino are you serious about immigration never having been an issue before? People didn't like the Windrush immigrants or the Ugandan refugees either and the right was vociferous then too.

CookieDoughKid · 23/04/2015 17:28

Correction: No I don't believe in the paper. I believe in the NHS people WROTE the friggin article in the Guardian paper.

Moreshabbythanchic · 23/04/2015 17:28

icimoi Until the rise of UKIP all the other major parties have resolutely refused to discuss immigration and the concerns many people have about the effects on the infastructure of this country. It has now become a major topic of this election thanks to Farage and at last it is being given more consideration.

Whether they actually do anything about it remains to be seen but going on previous experience I wont hold my breath.

CookieDoughKid · 23/04/2015 17:30

Please ignore my rubbish grammar today! Typing on a phone is not conducive to making myself understood well....LOL.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 23/04/2015 17:33

Get tae fuck, the lot oan yes

Cruikshank wins the thread! Grin

GiddyOnZackHunt · 23/04/2015 17:34

cruik I did ask where the line was to drawn some hours ago including Celts as one of the options. No answer was forthcoming.

cruikshank · 23/04/2015 17:45

Sorry, GiddyonZackHunt, I should have known someone else would have brought it up.

And thanks, SagaNorensLeatherTrousers. Grin Anyone wants to say anything different, I'll set my haggises onto you.
