to wish I could vote ukip loud and proud

Mumof4worried · 22/04/2015 19:09

I've nc for this, as I generally have to in life.

I'm voting ukip, I live in Peterborough where we have had massive immigration. The affects have been huge. Enlargement of EU distroyed dh building business overnight. The schools are close to bursting and have to do a school run to two different schools, had a 5 hour wait in a and e. Teenage son struggles to get part time farm work like I did when I was a teenager. House prices are out of control, god knows how any of mine will ever leave home.

I'm not saying all of these are 100% to do with uncontrolled immigration, but it has Made the problems so much worse.

I'm not racist, most of my friends are 2nd gen Asians or homophobic, my brother and his husband visit a lot.

I just want an oz type points immigration system. I don't care that lots are highly skilled, that is often very bad as it leads to a brain drain in other countries and my children will have to compete with the worlds most ambitious and motivated people.

I just want to be able to express these thoughts but I'm shamed into hiding them by the media.

My Grandfather was proud to have fought against fascism - he would also view the anti immigration attitudes as oppressive and UKIP and a disgrace - hth

And I would cut and paste from the Conservative party manifesto, but I can't because it's a PDF. But here's a link to theirs, the section on immigration starts on page 29

BIWI · 23/04/2015 13:46

I can quite categorically state that MrsDeVere is, indeed, awesome.

Grin

parsnipbob · 23/04/2015 13:47

I'm not denying Britishness exists
but no one seems to be able to tell me what it is. And tbh it's irrelevant to all the vile xenophobic rhetoric flying round immigration. My Dad was an immigrant. I am British. I don't think about what it 'means' to be British. I'm just a person. I don't represent a nation.

I have just read the whole of ukips manifesto and yes they get my vote too

Well daffs you have a pretty well established record on this site for posting racist and inflammatory things on here. It doesn't surprise me that you are a UKIP supporter.

Your petty-minded bigotry fits with UKIP's hand in glove.

GiddyOnZackHunt · 23/04/2015 13:49

So Prince Charles is or isn't British?

catgirl1976 · 23/04/2015 13:49

The reason they won't say is because they absolutely mean White, English as a first language and Christian.

And they know if they do say that, the "I'm not a rascist" crap falls down somewhat.

Buxhoeveden · 23/04/2015 13:49

My OH, second generation immigrant (parents were part of the Rivers of Blood 'flood' of immigration) fought for this country in yet another pointless war.

And presumably they had a sense of why and what they were fighting for.

I've never met, for example, a Jamaican who exercised their right to move to the UK in the 50s and 60s who didn't have immense pride in Britishness and their own Britishness and a very clear sense of what that meant. Far more than I have. (Or perhaps patriots are very vocal).

Oh no look, someone dared to use the word "indigenous". KLAXON.

Will we not mourn the passing of the indigenous Italians, French, Swedes? Or are the Aborigines and Native Americans the only peoples who can claim the word indigenous for reasons unknown?

Its very different to compare cultures which existed in isolation for hundreds or thousands of years will very little change and cultures which have co-existed and actively interacted with lots of others giving and receiving from those cultures during the entirety of that period.

But yes that's a great example you pulled out of the hat there Hmm

I find all this bollocks about protecting against immigrants and our culture a little bit like King Knut sitting on the beach shouting at the tide for piss off.

How about we ban the internet and ban importing American films? Globalisation is happening. It doesn't actually matter if we have all these bloody foreigners over here changing our culture or not anymore. You can quite happily stay in your house and be bombarded with foreign influences.

Really I do wonder sometimes about what goes on in the heads of people who talk about protecting our Britishness.

parsnipbob · 23/04/2015 13:50

And you still won't say what Britishness is!!!!

Buxhoeveden · 23/04/2015 13:52

I'm not denying Britishness exists
but no one seems to be able to tell me what it is.

Well of course they can't. It varies by generation, region, individual. It evolves (bt always seems to involve tea).

But why are we throwing it overboard and letting the swivel eyed brigade have it?

catgirl1976 · 23/04/2015 13:52

You must know Bux? All these Jamacians have been telling you all about it.

Just tell us how they defined it if your not able to vocalise it yoursef?

80schild · 23/04/2015 13:52

I fail to see how anyone could possibly be in awe of MrsDeVere when she is spouting her own level of vitriol and swearing like a trooper. MrsD - don't worry, no-one would ever mistake you for a Guardian reader.

I however, can understand why people feel sympathy for UKIP. Out of all the politicians Nigel Farage is the only one that says anything controversial and it makes people feel like they have a legitimate choice. Personally I am bored of David Cameron who still seems to me uninspiring despite media attempts to make him seem otherwise. The alternative is not any better.

catgirl1976 · 23/04/2015 13:54

Hang on

Your mourning the loss of something intangiable, that varies from generation, region and individual, and constantly evolves but is actually under threat from immigrants?

Grin That is the funniest thing I have ever read. Bless you Grin

parsnipbob · 23/04/2015 13:55

Oh yes, God forbid a woman should swear. I hope someone has informed the church elders.

catgirl1976 · 23/04/2015 13:55

I'm a Guardian reader and I swear like a fucking trooper.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 23/04/2015 13:55

Awww, hopefully a UKIPer will come along and say they're in awe of you, 80s.

RedToothBrush · 23/04/2015 13:56

To be British is to seek out and explore other cultures and to incorporate the best elements of what we find into our every day lives in order to improve our lives. To be British is to be proud of our democracy and diversity and sense of justice and equality. To be British is to strive to be educated and educate.

catgirl1976 · 23/04/2015 13:56

*You're. I was laughing too hard.

merrymouse · 23/04/2015 13:57

They don't know the projections on when European host cultures are predicted to become minorities.

Please link to these projections and describe exactly what elements of the host culture will become 'minority' - Christmas? Football? Crumpets?

ElectraCute · 23/04/2015 13:57

I agree catgirl. Sadly.

Bux, I've read a lot of Mass Observation stuff (am currently reading Austerity Britain by David Kynaston which is fascinating and partly based on MO) and I agree it does, in some ways, give a sense of 'Britishness' but there is equally an awful lot of ambivalence about 'being British' in many MO accounts, particularly about the reasons for the war and the privations it imposed. There is plenty of casual racism, sexism, etc as well.

Mass Observation may be fascinating but it doesn't illustrate a Britain I'd like to return to.

As for Churchill...

Buxhoeveden · 23/04/2015 13:57

There are various patriotic visions people have described to me over the years that I wouldn't subscribe to myself cat.

But I don't see why the kippers should claim the notion as their own.

Why is the correct answer not "Yes britishness encompasses x y and z thing and now it also encompasses multiculturalism"?

ghostyslovesheep · 23/04/2015 13:59

Mrs D is indeed shitting fuckcuntingly awesome - so there
