To wish cafes would have a designated smoking area...

..which is completely separate from non smoking areas so I would be able to sit outside and enjoy the 'fresh' air without smoking the equivalent of 20 fucking fags!

PS Hissy when I smoked, I didn't smoke in my house. Therefore not yellow, nor stinking. Seriously, how old are you?

ilooklikemrsploppy · 21/04/2015 16:38

Stinkersmum - out of interest, why didn't you smoke at home ?

OP posts:
Stinkersmum · 21/04/2015 16:46

ilooklikemrsploppy because, contrary to popular anti smokers belief's, as a smoker I didn't like the smell of smoky rooms, I was aware of how the smell clings to everything indoors, I don't like the yellow tinge it leaves on the walls and my DH doesn't smoke. Although thankfully he was completely tolerant of my smoking and never asked me to give up. I had a nice patio and a covered porch. No harm in nipping outside. I don't really have an issue with the smoking ban in general although I think landlords that owned their own pubs should have had a say on what legal activities they allowed on their premises. I just enjoyed a cigarette.

Somanyvipers · 21/04/2015 16:49

I think I love you IKowIAm!

Icimoi · 21/04/2015 16:50

actually having a smoker sat 2 feet away through a window with the wind blowing the smoke IN does result in clouds of smoke, and why on earth should someone shut a window on a sunny day when (a) they were there first and chose to sit there, and (b) it's not their window to close.

Exactly. Plus it was a hot day: why should everyone inside the restaurant have to get even hotter just because one person sitting outside the window couldn't move a few feet whilst smoking to avoid blowing smoke into the restaurant?

usualsuspect333 · 21/04/2015 16:50

I wish people wouldn't sit eating while I'm trying to have a fag outside.

Icimoi · 21/04/2015 16:59

This thread is another example of the view of a section of MN that the only criterion governing their behaviour should be whether it is legal: the question of whether it is considerate seems to be irrelevant to them. It isn't illegal to block the entrance to someone's driveway, for instance, provided you aren't blocking them in - but how many of us would aggressively defend our right to do so in the way that some smokers are doing on here?

ilooklikemrsploppy · 21/04/2015 17:00

Thanks for replying Stinkers

I have a neighbour who is bordering on Kim and Aggie house cleanliness levels, is always immaculately turned out, not a hair out of place and perfectly made up. I see her standing out in her back garden most mornings at 7.15am having her first fag of the day. You can still smell it off her breath though and it must cling to her hair. But that's her choice.

Hissy · 21/04/2015 17:03

Let's be serious here. You walk into a restaurant, you spot a place that suits your needs, by a window, fresh air and you choose to sit there.

THEN someone sits directly outside and sparks up, without a thought to anyone around them.

Yes of course being there first make a difference. you wanna smoke? go and sit somewhere AWAY from others, so that you can enjoy your cigarette and others are able to enjoy their meal/drink whatever.

If a non smoker sits next to someone who is smoking, absolutely their decision and no, they have no right to complain.

I DO have more right to be in a place when I don't negatively impact upon it. i don't want to have to sit inside just because smokers have colonised the seating outside in the sunshine.

Why can you not see see that you choose to smoke, you are responsible for the consequences of your decisions; your litter, your ash AND the harmful and unpleasant smoke.

We may all be dying, what a truly facile and ridiculous comment Hmm however 1st and 2nd hand smoke causes harm and increases the risk of disease and ill health/death both to those that smoke AND those who are exposed to it.

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 21/04/2015 17:12

You said that smokers were slowly killing themselves, just pointing out that we all die.

Some people smoke, some people drink some people are so anal and uptight they will die from constipation, with a face like a ducks ass from all their whining

expatinscotland · 21/04/2015 17:16

Oh, look, another Smokers Are the Worst Fuckers in The World thread (no, I' not a smoker, I'm an ex smoker).

Right up there with benefits bashing.

IKnowIAmButWhatAreYou · 21/04/2015 17:21

another example of the view of a section of MN that the only criterion governing their behaviour should be whether it is legal

It's a good guideline to follow in life I find! If you tick that box, there's not much else to worry about.

Life's too short to worry about what some whinging nobody you'll never see again thinks.

Please the people that matter to you, be polite (ish) to the others and you'll lead a long and calm life.....

usualsuspect333 · 21/04/2015 17:22

Torch twos up anyone?

PunkrockerGirl · 21/04/2015 17:26

Quite, expat. We haven't had a a filthy fucker smoker thread for a a few days now.
Although I have to say I do enjoy the hysteria surrounding smoking on here. If I smoked, it would make me want to smoke more especially outside

Cantbelievethisishappening · 21/04/2015 17:31

Smokers have to go outside all thought the horrible winter but no whining from non-smokers as they are cosy inside and it doesn't affect them. Now that summer is here the inside whiners are now demanding the outside space and the smokers can now just fuck off. Smile

Stinkersmum · 21/04/2015 17:32

Hissy 'I DO have more right to be in a place when I don't negatively impact upon it.'

Type it out all you like. But you DON'T have more right. Fact.

ilooklikemrsploppy · 21/04/2015 17:37

cantbelieve - Smokers don't have to go outside. They chose to go outside, same way Stinkers explained before that she chose not to smoke in her house because she disliked the smell and went to her garden instead.

For fucks sake, some of you are going on as though you're an endangered species.

The flip-side to 'Smokers Are The Worst Fuckers In The World' seems to be 'anyone who objects to the smell of cigarette smoke is a whiny, anal, duck's-arse-faced complainer'. I don't think either of these are fair or reasonable beliefs.

I hate the smell of cigarette smoke. Both my parents smoked when I was a child. Dad quit when I was in my mid-teens, but mum always smoked. I know that, back then, the dangers of passive smoking were not known, or not well known, but I remember telling my mum that the smell of her cigarette smoke in the car gave me a headache and made me feel sick. She told me point-blank that I was wrong, and refused to stop smoking in the car.

I also remember her visiting me in my room at the Nurses' Home, and lighting up in my room - my bedroom - without asking me if I minded. My room stank of fag smoke afterwards, and that made me nauseous. She is a selfish and thoughtless smoker - but I think she is a selfish and thoughtless smoker because she is selfish and thoughtless, not because she is a smoker.

Maybe I am over-sensitive to the smell of cigarette smoke now, but I find it genuinely unpleasant being downwind of cigarette smoke for any length of time - it makes me feel sick. I accept that this is for me to deal with, though.

expatinscotland · 21/04/2015 18:00

'I understand why people moan about smoking.... But moaning about vaping?? Really??

Get the fuck over it. hmm'

Yeah, that's what's coming now. Some people have to have something to bitch about to make them feel better about themselves. Sigh. Inhales mint-flavoured juice in my vape stick.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 21/04/2015 18:10

I have to say, I cannot understand why vaping indoors is being banned.

Interestingly, the iPad autocorrected vaping to vamping - I definitely don't think vamping should be banned, indoors or out. Grin

Stinkersmum · 21/04/2015 18:13

ilooklikemrsploppy 'Smokers don'thave to go outside'

No, not at their own homes but they do have to in public places. Stop twisting it, because it's not the same.

TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet · 21/04/2015 18:13

Ahem

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 21/04/2015 18:16

Not a smoker's cough there, TheOnlyOliviaMumsnet? WinkGrin

ahbollocks · 21/04/2015 18:18

Frankly I love the smell of cigarettes but I dont smoke.
If im on my own I sit out with all the smokers but I give it a swerve if ive got my dc with me, just because id hate the smell to get in their hair etc

ilooklikemrsploppy · 21/04/2015 18:21

Stinkers - I honestly don't think I am twisting it ! You are choosing to smoke at that moment in time and therefore choosing to go outside rather than waiting until you're home or somewhere else.

Anyway, I'm off to cook a lovely lentil curry tonight so I can sit next to some smokers tomorrow and let rip. Wonder if the smell will offend them Wink
