To be really excited that a woman is having a baby. Again. I mean, no one else has ever had a baby, have they?

And it's going to be on the TELLY! And in the papers. And all over Twitter. We've got three weeks of this.

Be you need to start an AIBU about it. Grin

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 21/04/2015 08:26

sparkling - I remember when George was born actually having the home birth convo must have been more engaged the ! with a friend who's an obstetrician. She was saying it would be relatively easy to turn a room into an operating theatre (in case of need for an emergency section) if you had unlimited access to personnel and cash -situation here. She wondered why Kate didn't have a home birth with essentially one room as a midwife led birthing centre with pool (bet the royal midwife wouldn't forget to bring the pump like mine did!) and the medics on call in essentially a consultant led unit/theatre. Plus they could have an ambulance on standby for a transfer if that was preferable.

GingerCuddleMonster · 21/04/2015 08:29

fair enough misty but there is no need to think they are above you or better than you. I don't, which is why when I met Prince Harry I simply shook his hand like all the men around me had, some wives curtsied but that's not me. More money doesn't make you a better person neither does a bigger house. Surely it's your moral compass and what you do with your life that matters the most, and not how others live theirs.

But that's just my opinion. Now step aside so I can see a clearer view of the newborn Grin

yolofish · 21/04/2015 08:39

we went so far as to put a bet on the baby's name the other day. Fingers crossed for Caroline (Elizabeth Frances) as we'll win £30!!

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 21/04/2015 08:41

You see, I really don't get all this handwringing about whyohwhyohwhymustwebeexposedtotheroyalbabyallthetime stuff or indeed any sleb gossip be they trashy WAGs, xfactor rejects or Royals.

It's so easy to avoid if you're not interested in it. I've managed it perfectly well thus far, the only things I see about celebs are on here! I'm not being holier than thou, I love other 'vacuous' stuff like skin care and those 'what are you wearing today' threads , if you love celeb stuff then crack on but it doesn't interest me so I give it a swerve.

hackmum · 21/04/2015 08:44

Oh, I dunno. I despise the institution of monarchy and would get rid of it like a shot. I think William and Kate are bland and dull and almost certainly don't have a single interesting personality trait between them.

Even so, I am mildly interested in the arrival of the royal baby. I don't know why. I just like babies, I suppose, and stories about babies. I despair of myself sometimes.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 21/04/2015 08:48

This thread demonstrates how unaware I am of the royal baby mk2, no idea it was 3wks from delivery.

Aussiemum78 · 21/04/2015 09:05

Ginger I think you miss the point. They aren't better, they don't deserve a curtsy, they don't deserve tax payer funding. Royalty is outdated, especially in a democratic country with "equal rights".

They actually come across as reasonable people, just with undeserved privilege. I don't believe in any form of caste system or inherited privilege.

I'd love to see William make a real contribution to world history and declare the end of the royal line and colonialism. If he's bold enough to do it...

GingerCuddleMonster · 21/04/2015 09:13

No I understand, some are anti royalist but the problem you've got is the actual revenue the royal family generate to disband them.

Individually they cost us something like 72pence each but they generate tourism income like no other attraction. They draw visitors to London and stately homes and drive money in to the economy.

Their financial benefit far outweighs their value. Also with no real power they are just puppets, lined up on a balcony to wave in posh frocs and generate more money.

you just have to seperate the individual from the circus to realise they font have a grand old life, there practically performing puppets.

Moreshabbythanchic · 21/04/2015 09:20

I hope this baby is born on May 8, it will be hilarious watching the media getting themselves into a frenzy switching between the election results and another sponging, holiday taking, priveliged, freeloader.

dougierose · 21/04/2015 09:35

Oh bleeding heck. I took DS to school today and the town is covered in red/white/blue bunting. I don't recall a festival or event taking place to warrant this decoration. But surely it can't have been laid out for The Baby???

OP posts:
MehsMum · 21/04/2015 09:37

I'm quite looking forward to hearing a baby has been born, because I am middle-aged and past all that myself and like babies a lot.

In any case, it's a lot more interesting than the bloody football which pops up on the radio every damned morning as I walk the dogs...

And another vote here for a HB in Norfolk!

FyreFly · 21/04/2015 09:41

What a lovely way to talk about an unborn child, Moreshabby Hmm

SylvaniansAtEase · 21/04/2015 09:44

It's due already?!

I like babies.

I might vote for the baby.

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 21/04/2015 09:44

The best bit last time was that she'd had the baby but let the press stay out there a long time before they told anyone. I think it was really hot weather. I bet that was on purpose.

I'd hate to be her, but then she knew she was being selected as good breeding stock and a token 'commoner' from the off.

I wish she'd be papped in her PJs sending Will out for a kebab though. She looks way too good for a pregnant woman with hg!

Minus2seventy3 · 21/04/2015 09:45

Imagine if she pops the sprog late on election day, and there's a hung parliament, with the SNP holding the cards... The editor and chief staffers at the Wail will be apoplectic; what to report? Nasty doom and gloom and Miliband character assassination woe is me, or nation rejoices, Kate's had another bairn.
I rather think their heads would explode (which would be nice).

FyreFly · 21/04/2015 09:48

When I saw the thread I thought she must have gone into labour, and got really confused when there was bugger all on the BBC. So is it that the baby's due today or what?

I haven't been following this too closely, as you may be able to tell Wink, but anything that can shift the politicians off the telly for 24-48 hours is all good in my books.

AliceLidl · 21/04/2015 09:49

"Oh bleeding heck. I took DS to school today and the town is covered in red/white/blue bunting. I don't recall a festival or event taking place to warrant this decoration. But surely it can't have been laid out for The Baby???"

Where do you live that they've gone to all that effort? She's not even in labour yet.

Is she? IS SHE!?

FyreFly · 21/04/2015 09:54

So hang on, IS she in labour or are the press just nabbing the best spaces outside the hospital in anticipation of said labour?

I didn't think there'd be this much hoohah over the second one. It's the first one that will be king if all goes as planned.

FyreFly · 21/04/2015 09:55

Apparently it's Her Maj's birthday today and all, and her spotlight is being nicked by someone who's not even here yet!

BlueBananas · 21/04/2015 09:57

Oh I thought she'd gone into labour then!...what's the point of this thread?

DoraGora · 21/04/2015 09:59

What's wrong with you, OP? Last time the dad fitted the car seat. I played that bit back in slow mo several times. A whole seat, mind, none of this booster rubbish.

DoraGora · 21/04/2015 10:00

Blue, it's just frustration at media tittle tattle. A worthy cause, if you ask me.

Elledouble · 21/04/2015 10:04

dougierose it's probably for the queen's birthday or St. George's Day or something.

My baby is due this week, while I'm not particularly bothered by the royal sproglet I was quite excited at the thought that I might give birth on the same day, just to see what would happen.

Sparklingbrook · 21/04/2015 10:10

Right so a HB in Norfolk it is then! Shall we start a petition for it? Smile
