AIBU clothes retailers don't make superhero clothes for girls

My daughter is a HUGE Marvel fan. She has a Hulk mug, loads of collectibles, all the films, Build a Bear Thor, the duvet set, the works. She is not a girly-girl, and her hero is the Black Widow.

She still likes pastel colours so I am trying to find some Marvel clothes aimed at girls but failing. There are Marvel clothes aimed at boys, with greys, blues, and green colours, but nothing in red, or pink, or purple etc. I have tried asking M&S and other retailers why this so, but they haven't bothered to respond. The worst is the Disney store, which has Avengers etc aimed at boys and Frozen etc aimed at girls.

I want to be kind and say there must be a copyright issue with producing these clothes. But in my meaner moments I think sexism reigns supreme. Does any other parents have boys who like Minnie Mouse for example? Does anyone know where I can find superhero clothes aimed at girls in the UK?

Thanks in advance!

Why don't you dress your DD in greys, blues and greens?

Aeroflotgirl · 19/04/2015 18:38

I would try Primark, they do have Marvel for girls too, and the Ladies Section has loads of Marvel, depending how old she is.

DearGirl · 19/04/2015 18:39

Why not let her wear them in the colours they come.

Aeroflotgirl · 19/04/2015 18:40

Op has said her dd likes pastel colours, so Marvel aimed at girls kind of thing. The cut of the boys stuff is different to the girls. Also, the online retailer Truffle shuffle do loads of Ladies Marvel t shirts, she could get xs sizes.

katheroo · 19/04/2015 18:40

My dd had a great Wonder Woman costume about a year ago from Smyths

SunnyBaudelaire · 19/04/2015 18:41

if you are so non sexist as to want to your dd to wear superhero clothes, why would they have to be in stereotypically 'girl' colours?

BerniceBroadside · 19/04/2015 18:42

I can't say I've ever seen any.

It's probably breaking all sorts of copyright laws, but you could buy some t shirt transfer paper and make your own?

cardibach · 19/04/2015 18:42

Marvel comics aren't drawn in pastels. They make the clothes in the 'correct' colours - it's really just an assumption that they are for boys. I know what you mean about Disney etc, but it's really up to you...

BizzieBoo · 19/04/2015 18:42

My daughter (3yo) loves Spider-Man (as well as frozen, Minnie etc) and if she see's something Spider-man she likes, regardless of the section, she likes it (& I end up buying it)That includes boys pants......:)

BloodyDogHairs · 19/04/2015 18:42

Yip Primark, they have tons of stuff. I was buying for my DS and my DD also commented how cool the t-shirts were and she now wants them.

penny13610 · 19/04/2015 18:43

direct.asda.com/george/girls/tops/marvel-t-shirt/GEM314285,default,pd.html at Asda, in the sale. They do exist but maybe your DD and my DSD are the only customers

Boobsofsteel · 19/04/2015 18:43

Try etsy. They often have pastel/pink clothes in superhero designs

Aeroflotgirl · 19/04/2015 18:43

There is nothing wrong with wanting a girly slant on Marvel clothing. I have have loads of female Marvel clothes, I prefer the fitted cut of the t shirts and long sleave shirts, the mens ones swamp me. I have some lovely Captain America pj in lighter colours from Primark.

BankWadger · 19/04/2015 18:45

M&S did a great Superman motif themed girls outfit - t-shirt skirt and tights in red white and blue. DD loves hers. Runs around shouting "superhero, wshhhhhh"

I hope they do a few more like it.

PurpleSwift · 19/04/2015 18:46

Marvel isn't really a "pastel colours" kind of thing though, is it? It's charecters tend to wear bolder greens, blues, reds etc so I'd expect the clothes to follow along those lines, which they tend to. Go to primark, there's loads!

Angelto5 · 19/04/2015 18:46

Have you tried sports direct?

QueQuesto · 19/04/2015 18:48

Here and here OP.

TheoriginalMrsDarcy · 19/04/2015 18:48

I picked up a wonder woman costume from eBay. I agree, I wish they did more girl superhero outfits. Doesn't have to be in pastel colours.

ahbollocks · 19/04/2015 18:50

Ooooh black widow is the best! All she needs is black leggings, boots and a black leather jacket, red rig optional!

EthelDurant123 · 19/04/2015 19:01

Daughter has a Black Widow dress up from the US. (Ebay!)

Thanks for your recomendations. Will look again this week.

but yes your right.

I would try primemark..there v big on marvel girly stuff..

dexter73 · 19/04/2015 19:19

Uniqlo have some Marvel t-shirts at the moment.

306235388 · 19/04/2015 19:22

Etsy is usually good for things like this.

Dd has a few superhero t shirts but they're from the 'boy' section.

Dd loves dresses though and wants a Lego print one which seems not I exist!
