AIBU clothes retailers don't make superhero clothes for girls

My daughter is a HUGE Marvel fan. She has a Hulk mug, loads of collectibles, all the films, Build a Bear Thor, the duvet set, the works. She is not a girly-girl, and her hero is the Black Widow.

She still likes pastel colours so I am trying to find some Marvel clothes aimed at girls but failing. There are Marvel clothes aimed at boys, with greys, blues, and green colours, but nothing in red, or pink, or purple etc. I have tried asking M&S and other retailers why this so, but they haven't bothered to respond. The worst is the Disney store, which has Avengers etc aimed at boys and Frozen etc aimed at girls.

I want to be kind and say there must be a copyright issue with producing these clothes. But in my meaner moments I think sexism reigns supreme. Does any other parents have boys who like Minnie Mouse for example? Does anyone know where I can find superhero clothes aimed at girls in the UK?

Thanks in advance!

Have a look on 'A Mighty Girl' website.

Marvel don't do pastels colours. Its not their style. The clothes tend to follow the colours of the characters costumes. Yabu Imo. Just because its not pastel colours doesn't mean its its not for girls.

However I find alot of the best adult t-shirts are men's cut, but I wear them anyway. Currently sat in agents of shield men's t-shirt I love it.

Even in marvel world at universal Florida, the women's selection was pretty poor.

I did get a wonder woman t-shirt in pink from the gap outlet a few weeks ago, but that's DC not marvel. So it depends if she would go for that.

shewept · 19/04/2015 19:25

Oh I did get a Pheonix t-shirt from amazing though one for me and one for dd. It was red though.

My DD is 20 and hugely into marvel superhero stuff! Amazon and primary would be her main sources. She's size 8 & gets very excited when she gets something to fit! Her brother was very popular when he got her some stuff from next sale! It was the older boys range which they don't normally stock but it arrived for the sale and he put it aside for her. Brothers with part time jobs can be useful!

turdfairynomore · 19/04/2015 19:35

Primary?? Primark!! That'll be my NI accent Smile

Pico2 · 19/04/2015 19:38

I get what you mean. DD1 self identifies as "girlie" and enjoys pretending she has a cape with a blanket, but would reject typically boyish colours. I'd be happy to buy a standard superhero costume, but she wouldn't wear it.

maddening · 19/04/2015 19:38

ps if it is casual you are after can you get a marvel iron on decal and a pastel tshirt?

PrimalLass · 19/04/2015 19:39

There will probably be Supergirl stuff out soon.

wigglesrock · 19/04/2015 19:41

My daughter has a Marvel t-shirt and vest from as others have said Primark - they're both pink. She got them last year but I saw similar stuff in our local Primark yesterday.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 19/04/2015 19:42

I'm loving all the suggestions on where to get things. Currently living in mainly menswear with just a couple of nice womens fit batman items.

SmashleyHop · 19/04/2015 19:43

My little girl loves superheroes too- but I've always been able to find stuff for her. I think there is more "boyish" (for lack of a better term) stuff directed for girls than vice versa. thinkgeek.com has some cute superhero stuff for girls, also A mighty girl as someone mentioned above.

microgynoninthesky · 19/04/2015 19:44

My dd does stuff like matches her batman top from the boys section with a cute yellow skirt and looks quite cool. She's 4.

Cocolepew · 19/04/2015 19:44

As others have said Primark has loads of Marvel stuff.

wheresthelight · 19/04/2015 22:01

I got dd a marvel superheroes hoodie in primark and it's pink. if you shop around lots of places do them I think although other than primark I am coming up blank for places nut sleep deprived sorry

elQuintoConyo · 19/04/2015 22:06

Lidl/Aldi (don't know which one, they're next to each other and we shop in both!) did some pink Spiderman stuff a few months ago, perhaps keep your eye open there? They both have facebook pages which tell you what's coming up in their Treasure Aisle-ands Grin

kojackscat · 19/04/2015 22:08

I saw a great Spiderman dress a few weeks ago. Shame I cant remember where I saw it!

DD has a (homemade) batman costume and she wears it with a black tutu Grin. She loves the marvel stuff and I'm disappointed the Disney store don't do girl pants. Not bothered about the colour, DD likes them original, but the right girly cut. I see a load more homemade costumes in my future!

Will definitely take a look in Primark though and DD's gran has just knitted her a black jumper with the batman logo on it.

steff13 · 19/04/2015 22:11

Do you have Target in the UK? We got my daughter a Supergirl t-shirt (with a cape!), a pink Captain America t-shirt, and a Batgirl t-shirt. She also has several of the "tradtional" Batman shirts and hoodies, but she loves pink, so she likes the pink ones.

WiIdfire · 19/04/2015 22:12

Tesco has a superman baseball cap in pink and sky-blue at the moment.

(Though its just wrong - superman should be red, blue and yellow)

DD is a huge Marvel/DC girl and doesn't care if the clothes are from the boys section so long as she can have Hulk somewhere on it. It is really annoying that I can't find her underwear though. She wants Marvel pants but boys pants aren't comfortable because the elastic is too thick at the waist. She gets very jealous of my Marvel/DC/Star Wars pants from Primark Grin

Dakiara · 19/04/2015 22:25

I've seen a few bits and pieces in girlie colours in Walmart, Target and Kohl's - could be worth a try on eBay. I'm always after geeky shirts in "girlie fit". Annoying that many still don't offer this! :-(

myusernameisusername · 19/04/2015 22:26

There's no such thing as girls clothes and boys clothes ffs there was a thread in clothing a while back with some woman harping on about how she couldn't possibly buy her DD a dinosaur t shirt as it was in the "boys" section complete with a change.org petition Angry just buy what ever clothes your DC want it doesn't matter which "section" the supermarket put them in it won't make your child self combust if you dress her in a "boys" t shirt just let her be happy in what she wears for gods sake. the only thing you should look for in children's clothes is that they fit well are comfortable and wash well etc.
