Nastiest celebs...

Very trivial discussion (so I know I am being unreasonable already Grin ), but I am reading a thread about nasty celebs from 2008 (google brought me there) and really enjoying the gossip... AIBU to ask who the nicest and vilest celebs are who you have met in real life?

My daughter's friend was on the flight with David Beckham to bring the Olympic flame from Greece to uk. She said he was awesome. He had a suite of rooms- he told them they were welcome to use them, but that they were underage so he couldn't let them drink on his watch. I thought a lot of him for taking that stance.

greendiary · 20/04/2015 17:32

Rowan Atkinson - met him in the Mr Bean heyday - lovely and borrowed my pen to sign others autographs (and even gave me it back!)

Peter Andre - met him not long after he split with Katie Price. Still lovely and up for pics at 2am after a corporate do. Smelled gorgeous.

Jimmy Carr - met him after a gig where he would sign stuff but due to time constraints (ie not enough time to see everyone) couldn't do pics. I was at the end of the line and cheekily asked for a photo and got one. Wears heaps of make up.

Ed Sheeran - met at a close up gig just as things were taking off. Such a nice guy.

Haven't met anyone who's been ghastly thankfully!

Peaceloveandhobnobs · 20/04/2015 17:34

I have to say that Michael Palin was genuinely lovely the two times I've met him at book signings. He went really out of his way for me at one (outing so I won't mention what he did). I was 17 and obsessed with Monty Python, so I'm very pleased I obviously caught him on good days! So sorry you had a bad experience londonrach Sad

MoreBeta · 20/04/2015 17:43

Interesting thread.

Me and DW went to uni with David Milliband. Spoke him just about every day. We used to argue about politics a lot.

DW met him by accident 30 years later. Remembered her and me like we were still at uni. Chatted for about 20 minutes before his entourage moved on. Nice chap although I will never vote Labour.

The thing with celebrity it is fragile and people are incredibly rude to you and/or wan a piece of you all he time. Someone shoves a flash gun in your face without asking and your picture is on the internet and news stands 2 hours later.

Its very wearing.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 20/04/2015 17:44

Erm…Mr Bloom?

He was completely lovely though and instantly 'Mr Bloom'd' the DC who were Shock and Grin to see him. Their presence made it sadly inappropriate to try to flirt with him, though. Although i think I probably still made a valiant pathetic effort.

TrulyTurtles · 20/04/2015 17:46

Terry Deary , bloody lovely. Went to event/book signing two years apart. Ds had lots of is early books, dragged them along for signing-he was chuffed. Then at second one he remembered the boys, they were chuffed.
I remember Jarvis pre fame days-seemed ok liked my skirt one night. But my dsis says he and Damien Hirst tried to get into a private party (vair pissed) with the immortal line "do you know who we are?"
Amazingly the Dalai lama is just a bundle of lovely.

flippinada · 20/04/2015 17:50

Well, I can't find any threads about Terry Deary being a git - Maybe I imagined them?

FuckingLiability · 20/04/2015 17:53

I met Jason Plato several years ago. He was utterly charming and rather than just saying hello and shaking my hand, actually engaged me in conversation for some time.

I've met Joey Essex a few times through work and he's always been very cheery and polite.

financialwizard · 20/04/2015 18:08

Daniella Westbrook - Not a nice person at all and I have been in her 'presence' a few times (not by choice).

Princess Anne - Straight talking, down to earth, doesn't take any prisoners but never nasty.

Johnny Herbert, Jenson Button, Jacques Villeneuve, David Coulthard - Met them at a charity driving event and they were all gents and lovely. Just a shame I was married Grin

Ian Wright - Decent chap.

Jeremy Clarkson - Bit of an arse but was quite pleasant and polite to me.

Tiff Needell - Family friend, absolutely lovely guy, as was his father.

To be honest half the time I think I wouldn't have a clue who these 'celebrities' were anyway if they came up and slapped me in the face with a wet fish. I am incredibly unobservant when it comes to things like who people are. My husband says I probably wouldn't care less if I was in the presence of the Pope. He is probably right, as far as I am concerned all of these people are just normal everyday people with a different job to me.

financialwizard · 20/04/2015 18:09

FuckingLiability

Is Joey Essex really as thick as he makes out?

Sansarya · 20/04/2015 18:29

Very telling that all the Jimmy Savile stories have similar conclusions. He really did hide in plain sight, didn't he?

Mickeysmonkey · 20/04/2015 18:35

I sat next to Jarvis Cocker on a flight from Reykjavik to London. He was very quiet, but very gracious when he was recognized - and he gave me his mini toblerone too!

DaceyMormont · 20/04/2015 18:43

I've never met Anthony Head either - we should form a club

Or a support group. I, for one, am starting to feel personally victimised by the cosmos' failure to place ASH in my path even once

hobNong · 20/04/2015 18:45

I don't know who Anthony Head is Blush

flippinada · 20/04/2015 18:51

A wee treat. AH fans of a certain age will particularly enjoy this one:

Grin
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 20/04/2015 18:52

I've just learned from Wikipedia he's the younger brother of Murray Head! Goodness me.

Anthony Head: Wikipedia says 'Anthony Stewart Head (born 20 February 1954) is an English actor and musician. He rose to fame in the UK following his role in the Gold Blend couple television advertisements for Nescafé Gold Blend, and is known for his roles as Rupert Giles in Buffy the Vampire Slayer , Uther Pendragon in Merlin, the Prime Minister in Little Britain, and as Herc Shipwright in BBC Radio 4's Cabin Pressure.' He has the most beautiful voice. I could listen to him all day long.

Thecowandcat · 20/04/2015 18:53

I don't know who Anthony Head is

He's the patron saint of Mumsnet. Grin

meglet · 20/04/2015 18:54

Murray Head as in 'one night in bankok' fame? I've got that 7" somewhere.

never met AH though.

hareinthemoon · 20/04/2015 18:55

Sadly I am also one of the few who has never met Anthony Head.

Strangely, for such a boring person, I seem to have met many famous people. And yes, along with many others, for me Dawn French stands out as being not one to trust. If she needs to be charming, there is no-one more charming. If not - just not nice.

I won't run through a big list but wanted to mention that Toyah Wilcox taught me my very best, worst swear words (she'd been doing something in a prison before I worked with her).

The Muppets are invariably witty, charming and funny. A bit mad, most of them, but what do you expect.

But the most charming evah was Martin Landau. Just looooooovely.

LittleprincessinGOLDrocks · 20/04/2015 18:56

I met Julie Hesmondhalgh (Haley Cropped in Corrie) in the loos of a theatre. She asked me what I thought of the show we had been watching as her friend was the lead in it. She was lovely, and so friendly. She told me I looked lovely. Couldn't have been nicer.

I met Dannii Minogue back stage at one of her concerts (late 1990s) and she was great, posed for loads of photos and signed photos for all my friends. She was really chatty and interested in what we had to say.

maitaimojito · 20/04/2015 19:16

I second Joel and Benji Madden being lovely. I only spoke to them for a few minutes but they were very sweet and charming.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 20/04/2015 19:20

Aah I'm glad the Madden bros are lovely. Nicole Richie is my celeb imaginary self, and I wouldn't want to think she/I'm married to a twat.

The Gold Blend woman look a bit like Amal AlamuClooney.

Pollyswall · 20/04/2015 19:21

I've never met AH but my SIL went to school with him.Grin

Alan Carr, delightful, those who work with him love him.

Someone said that Philip Schofield was horrible on one of these threads, really?

slithytove · 20/04/2015 19:33

Mister maker is lovely

Met roger Moore and MPW at book signings, both were perfectly nice

dontcallmelen · 20/04/2015 19:33

Another poor soul here, not bumped into Anthony Head, saw Damien Lewis walking with his wife, along the kings road, gave me a lovely smile took me days, to realise who he was, also saw Jose Murinho, again on the kings road, beautifully dressed in the way that only Italian men able to pull off (think sweater draped artfully over shoulders) was salivating at his utter loveliness DH pracitcally had to pin me down as was running after him to try & get a picture, he wisely speeded up & couldnt catch himSmile Dd saw many slebs whilst working in marleybone had coffee with Noel Gallagher a few times, said he was really lovely.
