Nastiest celebs...

Very trivial discussion (so I know I am being unreasonable already Grin ), but I am reading a thread about nasty celebs from 2008 (google brought me there) and really enjoying the gossip... AIBU to ask who the nicest and vilest celebs are who you have met in real life?

OP posts:
HellKitty · 20/04/2015 12:13

I am ridiculously happy that Trevor and Simon still swing their pants Grin

blueskydrinking79 · 20/04/2015 12:19

Went to uni with Chris O'Dowd. Can't remember him though. Pity!

Meet Bono a few times. Was pretty star struck, he has a serious presence. Very charismatic.

Also worked with Cate Blanchette. No in depth conversations or anything but always very nice and lovely to deal with. And utterly stunning.

FlipperSkipper · 20/04/2015 12:31

I was on the same flight as Wayne and Colleen Rooney and they were very nice to the flight attendants, and Wayne was happily chatting to the other passengers at baggage reclaim.

I met Alfie Boe at stage door and he was lovely, quite happy to sign programmes and pose for photos.

FilbertSnood · 20/04/2015 12:36

Suggs was lovely he came and thanked me for making him sound good (I was working in radio).

I have met lots of v nice people - Thierry Henry, danni minogue, Paul Ross.

I have also worked with well known presenters and they have pretty much all been nice. Except one radio 4 presenter - who made my life hell. But most people are nice aren't they.

squoosh · 20/04/2015 12:37

Thierry Henry. MEGA swoon.

You lucky thing.

DaceyMormont · 20/04/2015 12:39

I think I need to take more train journeys in the hope of meeting Giles Anthony Head! Glad to hear he is nice.

Am also quite touched to read the posts about Pete Doherty, given the way he is portrayed in the tabloids.

I haven't met any big celebs, but I used to see the writer Ian Rankin a lot when I worked in Edinburgh. He was always really nice, very quiet and self-effacing.

And when I was a teenager the film critic Mark Kermode rang me one evening and talked about films for ages - I had written to him c/o Radio 1 to ask his opinion on The Exorcist for a Media Studies project I was doing. He was great!

Sheitgeist · 20/04/2015 12:39

My daughter and I have met Michael Sheen a couple of times. He was patron of a youth theatre group here, and comes to visit and spend time with them.

He is unutterably kind and lovely.

FilbertSnood · 20/04/2015 12:39

He was very attractive - and walking very slowly (I was trying to get him to follow me quickly to a studio!)

Teeste · 20/04/2015 12:45

Hayley off Corrie - delightful
Eileen off Corrie - miserable
Dev off Corrie - miserable
Russell Watson - quiet but nice

I worked in a Raymond Blanc restaurant back in the mists of time. Let's just say his professional persona does not match his off-camera one. Also treated his staff abominably.

Penn and Teller - jolly good fun and clearly love their fans.

I am now double plus disappointed I've never met Tony Head!

OnlyLovers · 20/04/2015 12:52

Haven't read all these yet, but v sad to hear about Michael Palin being an arse.

Graham Norton seemed nice and a bit shy when I met him (in a group of people, v briefly, admittedly).

John Humphrys is a cunt.

The late Bobby Robson was a delight: courteous, friendly, charismatic. A gent.

Paul Merton was a bit shy but sweet. V passionate talking about comedy.

IndridCold · 20/04/2015 12:59

Was at the theatre years ago, and Dawn French and Lenny Henry were there too. In the bar at the interval some kids from a school group went up to ask for their autograph, and it was quite interesting, because they refused to give autographs, but they spent quite a long time chatting to them about the play instead.

Sir David Attenborough is really lovely.

queenofwesteros · 20/04/2015 13:23

Oh please don't say Matt Bellamy is an arse!! I love him, think the guy is a freaking genius..
Had a conversation with Sir David Attenborough many years ago...he was utterly lovely, looked about 10 years younger than he is and was infectiously enthusiastic about wildlife. Brilliant man. Love him to bits.
More recently met Gordon Buchanan, who was also utterly lovely, smiley and enthusiastic. I also got a cuddle off him so was a very happy woman Grin
Eddie Izzard...similarly lovely, very short, great laugh. He admired my dress, I admired his trousers and we had a long convo about fashion Grin
My daughter met Henry Winkler (The Fonz) when he visited her school with his book. Apparently a strange but endearing combination of grumpiness and patience and he very much appealed to the kids, they really liked him.

netty7070 · 20/04/2015 13:29

I'm v Sad about Michael Palin and Dawn French.

Have met a few famous folk in a professional capacity and they have all been really pleasant. The actor Tom Ward is a real gent.

RosaliesGinBottle · 20/04/2015 13:36

All the celebs I have ever met were years ago when I was a peon at the Edinburgh Book Festival, and being new to Britain, only recognised a few. Jacqueline Wilson is wonderful, Jeanette Winterson left me with a crush on her, Sandi Toksvig was jolly and focused, Edwina Currie was utterly charming and paid attention to all the workers, Richard Holloway was radiantly intellectual, and Gore Vidal, while fascinating, really loved his own voice. Margaret Atwood was terrifying, but I realized afterwards it's because of her Canadian Ice Face. Philip Pullman was able to explain his books to 8 year olds without condescension. No bad ones I can remember! And Ian Rankin invited us all down to his local!

MrsRupertCampbellBlack · 20/04/2015 13:36

Ah love this thread! I am a s'leb journo so job is interviewing - have to say some people are horrible the first time I meet them and lovely all other times so try really hard not to judge people on one bad meeting. But Ruth Jones is LOVELY - just really shy and hates people fussing over her. My all time worst celebs (who I have met enough times to decide they are just twunts and not having a bad day:
Nicki Minaj - total diva, talks only to her people, face like a slapped arse
John Goodman - hates being interviewed and is always rude
James Franco - terrible BO, horrible man
Jennifer Aniston - nice to men, nasty to women

All-time favourite celebs - Will Smith, Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks are all incredible pros and friendly and nice to everyone in the room, from journos to cleaners.
Lionel Ritchie is a total sweetheart
Kate Winslet is v luvvie but very funny and filthy sense of humour.

SquiddlyDiddlyDoo · 20/04/2015 13:37

Chelsy Davy - nice enough girl but incredibly lazy. Also considered herself above socialising with anyone she worked with, even at work functions - she just didn't turn up.

Ed Sheeran - met him in a bar a few years back, before he was even massively famous (think, just after A Team was released) and he was a prize prat. Spent all night leering at people and telling everyone loudly about all his FRIENDS in the music industry. I was so disappointed about this.

Harry Styles and Nick Grimshaw - this was awkward. Had lunch at a Soho club (work thing) and they were on the next table with a woman and another bloke. Styles was up to his eyeballs on some sort of drugs - totallty out of it. Kept saying "yeaaaaaah maaaaan, but er er er what was I saying oh yeah er er yeaaaaah man". Grimshaw was incredibly loud, banging on to the poor other two people about all the people he'd met on his radio show and how just "couldn't imagine having to work full time dontcha knooow", but really nice about us saying hi and let us do selfies. Styles didn't even notice anyone was there. The waiting staff spent 10 mins not serving anyone because they were chatting to Styles' entourage about the best way to smuggle him out of the building without anyone noticing because the publicity would have been AWFUL.

Jim Davidson tried to feel me up at age 17 in a masonic lodge. I was going out with a 20 year old who joined the masons (because daddy was a grand master of course), so I had to go to some stupid cocktail reception and dinner where JD proceeded to try and corner me for "some real action"...

wigglesrock · 20/04/2015 13:40

I have one oft repeated celeb encounter Smile - I bumped into Andy from CBeebies a good few years ago, I was with dd1 who was about 4, she started shouting "it's Andy, it's Andy" in the street, he came over and was an absolute delight with her. He was really lovely, very sweet.

Echocave · 20/04/2015 13:43

I can never go up to/take picture of etc famous people because I just doubt they'll want to talk to me but (and I told this story on a previous thread) but my Dad once accosted Mark Strong at the theatre to compliment him on a recent play he'd seen him in and he (Mark Strong) was very nice. Modest, polite and quite frankly - gorgeous...
Becles you're lucky to have met Mark Rylance. He comes over as lovely.

CowboyJoeFromMexico · 20/04/2015 13:44

I met Richard E Grant recently and he was utterly lovely. Chatty and nice and very smiley. Swoon.

squoosh · 20/04/2015 13:45

Jim Davidson tried to feel me up at age 17 in a masonic lodge.

It really doesn't get worse than being groped by creepy Jim in a creepy masonic lodge.

Uhplistrailer · 20/04/2015 13:55

David Williams- really nice and friendly.

Lauren laverne- also nice.

Nicky wire- bit moody and doesn't like the beach boys!

James Corden (reportedly, from 2 people) one that was friends with him and he ditched as soon as he became famous. The other was my friend who was working as an extra last year. Totally blanked her when she talked directly too him and was apparently not well liked on the set! Such a shame, I thought he seemed so nice!

Gok Wan- friendly and not as loud as you'd think!

Muddymits · 20/04/2015 13:57

In defence of Mr Wisdom - Norman was very sweet to my old gran during her birthday cake serving when he should have been eating his own meal. Didn't he list all his own records on desert island disks though!?!

Justin Beiber, absolute tit of the highest 'don't you know who I am' order.

Goldie, remember him, got stopped by a friend and gave her huge motivational pep talk about being confident in her talents.

Ed balls, actually quite funny and sweet.

Jarvis cocker, a sweetheart in a cardie.

And back to the bad, that famous footballer who fell out with Rooney and was moved. not a nice man.

buffythemuffinslayer · 20/04/2015 13:58

I love threads like this!

Pete Jones: sitting outside a cafe in Soho, said he liked my boots. Ergo: lovely chap.

Lisa Snowdon: lovely, but ditzy as all heck, couldn't find her own arm if it wasn't attached to her. Also looks nothing like she looks on TV.

Spencer from Made in Chelsea: the most arrogant man I think I've ever met. Also looks like his base material is oil.

David Tennant: Very polite, though had a slightly hunted look about him. This was when he was the Doctor though, so his paranoia may well have been justified.

Benedict Cumberbatch: Lovely, very professional, very good manners

Katherine Tate: I know somebody said she was horrid upthread. A friend of mine worked with her on a production recently. He said she came across as chronically shy rather than awful - kept herself to herself and didn't really communicate much. That's just hearsay though.

GColdtimer · 20/04/2015 13:58

I was in a pub in Chelsea in the 90s and thought I recognised the guy at the bar. I asked him if he used to work on the railway with my Dad. He said with a twinkle in his eye and abroad N Irish accent, "no love, not me". To which I responded "oh no, you're George Best". So embarrassing. He was lovely and charming and bought me a drink.

GuyMartinsSideburns · 20/04/2015 14:00

I've got an Anthony Head one too Grin Back when I worked in a charity shop years ago we had a load of Buffy stuff donated (brand new books etc) and every now and again Anthony would pop in to see if there was anything that needed signing, which was lovely as the items then got sold for a bit more for the charity.

I met Rik Mayall a few years ago after a theatre performance. He was so lovely, we had a chat and a photo and he gave me a hug and a kiss and signed my programme. He smelt really nice too. I was so happy as I had been a fan for so many years and he was one of my favourite people ever.

Dh loves Michael Palin and met him a few times at talks and book signings. I always liked him in 'Ripping Yarns' and so once when dh went to a signing (for MP's new series at the time) he also took my Ripping Yarns book to see if he could try his luck. When it was his turn and Michael signed his copy dh asked nicely if he could possibly sign my book and he was kind enough to do so, made a nice comment to dh.

Back in January I was in sainsburys, ds had been going crazy in his buggy so I was holding him in my left arm whilst pushing the buggy with my right and with my shopping basket in the buggy. Pretty distracted! Someone's trolly bumped into me and the owner was really apologetic, I was concentrating on ds etc so didn't really look and just said "it's ok Im having one of those days today", and the woman replied "yes I think I am too". She then bent down and picked up ds's raggy thing off the floor and gave it to me, when I looked at her I realised it was Ashley Jensen (off 'Extras'). Her hair looked gorgeous! She seemed lovely.

I walked past Russell Howard in town one day Grin

Wouldn't mind bumping into Guy Martin but can't see myself at a race meeting anytime soon and I'm not the type to approach anyone tbh, I'd just wave from a distance and blush Blush I appreciate fans wanting to meet their idols but I can't imagine how crap it must be when you're about to race the tt or whatever and you've got people banging on your van etc
