Very trivial discussion (so I know I am being unreasonable already Grin ), but I am reading a thread about nasty celebs from 2008 (google brought me there) and really enjoying the gossip... AIBU to ask who the nicest and vilest celebs are who you have met in real life?

I also met Tony Benn several times and he was always lovely, friendly and remembered previous meetings. In fact, that's the first time I've ever heard anything bad about him Plom.

Awks · 19/04/2015 21:49

WTAF with all the Antony Head stuff? He's a grafter, isn't he?

Welshwabbit · 19/04/2015 21:52

Instituteofstudies it's funny you should say that as "loyal" is one of the first words I'd use to describe Rob Rinder.

Discombobulated42 · 19/04/2015 21:54

Michael Palin. - very rude at a book signing
Helena Bonham-carter - very arrogant
Jim Davidson- Nothing good to say at all!

Brenan O'carroll. An absolutely lovely man
Jimmy Carr, stopped his car after leaving a show and came over to talk to us, really nice chap.
Chat and Dave were lovely.
My son was in Oliver with Jodie Prenger. She is really lovely.

Takver · 19/04/2015 21:55

Awks - everyone's said he's nice! Surely that's a good thing . . .

kokodebut · 19/04/2015 21:55

Agree Rupert grint is lovely, very down to earth. Glad to hear that Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson are the same!
Hugh Dennis is great too, made such a fool of myself, but he was lovely.
Colin Morgan is very nice, spent ages signing everyone's autographs. Took time to speak to everyone, take pictures and interested in what they had to say. Met him after seeing the Tempest at the globe.

James Mcavoy and Martin Freeman are very funny and likeable as well when I've seen them.

Curious to see if anyone has met Miranda in real life?

BitOutOfPractice · 19/04/2015 21:56

ModernToss I want to kiss you Blush

Bambambini · 19/04/2015 21:56

Chris Tarant was sitting in front of me on a flight and helped me gat my buggy down from the over heads. He also spent the hour or so flight chatting away to the older couple sitting next to him.

Michael Caine was friendly and chatted away to the husband once.

Chatted a few times to Michaela Starachan on holiday (same hotel) and she was friendly and pleasant enough. Don't think most folk knew who she was which she seemed quite happy about.

BeetlebumShesAGun · 19/04/2015 21:58

Just remembered my other celeb encounters.

To add to the Pete Doherty stuff, I served him in a pub he used to frequent and he was really lovely, asked me about my uni course and was very nice when I got all flustered (big Libertines fan!)

I accidentally walked into Jeremy Irons' back off the escalator at Tate Modern and he looked at me like I was a piece of shit. I was disappointed as I loved Brideshead Revisited and imagined him to be just like Charles.

Less famous, an ex of mine used to write gig reviews so I have hung out with Jamie T who got me absolutely wasted and was lovely, talking to everyone, and The Klaxons were fairly alright.

My favourite was Julian Barratt from the Mighty Boosh. He was at a gig and stayed for the after party club night and danced exactly like his character and was happy to chat to loads of people who all wanted a piece of him.

BeetlebumShesAGun · 19/04/2015 22:00

Apologies for all the "ands" in my last post, got carried away! Blush

ghostyslovesheep · 19/04/2015 22:01

I've also met Tony Benn twice

second time was not long before he died and he was a bit rambling and drifted a bit but was lovely and very funny and warm

first time I had a small child in a buggy with me at a speech he was giving

afterwards he helped me carry the buggy down the steps (lots of them) and ruffled the little boys hair (my friends son) - he was lovely

SnowBells · 19/04/2015 22:03

Kevin Spacey - lovely.

Jodie Kidd - stuck up.

Joshua Jackson - nice.

When in the US, I seem to bump into NBA basketball players all the time. Always in the hotel lift! Each one of them was so polite, they seem like choir boys!!

queeninthenorth · 19/04/2015 22:06

Robson Green pushed in front of us (me, my brother and my parents) for a flight from Newcastle to London once, this was about, 98/99 and the line was massive, but he just swanned to the front and looked quite taken shocked when my Dad told him that we were first (it was obvious too)

Strangely enough, when I met DP and we were discussing flights, etc, his mother mentioned that Robson Green had pushed in front of her in a line, at an airport as well haha!

Not sure if they count as celeb, but all of Geordie Shore are quite nice and shockingly quiet.

DishwasherDogs · 19/04/2015 22:06

I know Tom Hardy's SIL (who is very lovely), who assures me that he is very nice.
Never met him myself.
My parents met Rowan Atkinson and said he was extremely shy.
They also met Supergran (she introduced herself as Supergran) but she was very rude apparently.

Koalafications · 19/04/2015 22:07

Of course they are Slebs! queen Shock I bloody love GShore

HalleLouja · 19/04/2015 22:08

I have met Jon Snow (news presenter) and Trevor MacDonald. Both very charming. I have just remembered Judge Rinder was with me at the time. It was twenty years ago though.

Mypubesarestraight · 19/04/2015 22:10

I met the cast of 2 pints of lager and a packet of crisps.
All of them were lovely Smile

Instituteofstudies · 19/04/2015 22:11

Welshwabbit, I don't know what it is about Rob Rinder that seems to just say 'loyal' and kind and very wise - but that's definitely what I feel whenever I see his show. He is my new hero. I''ve not disagreed with a single one of his judgements yet.

ahfuckit · 19/04/2015 22:15

Jane Asher - lovely. Joan Collins - bought Hello magazine with 'Joan looking fab at 60' on it (yes this was many years ago!) and some trashy novels and queried the bill. Twiggy and husband(?) - pleasant. Nigel Havers - rude. Mohammed Ali - lovely.

maddiehayesfan · 19/04/2015 22:18

Liz Carr from Silent Witness - absolutely lovely and funny as fuck.

Mark King from Level 42, an absolute sweetheart.

Pete Cox from Go West - Very polite and also lush.

James May - Charming, polite, utterly delightful, far better looking in real life than on the telly, has eyes you could actually drown in.

Richard Hammond - very sweet and surprisingly shy.

Bill Bailey - Lovely and completely bonkers.

Norman Wisdom - without wanting to speak ill of the dead, a total knob.

ghostyslovesheep · 19/04/2015 22:19

ohhhh James May is a secret crush of mine Blush nice to know he's lovely and drowny Grin

maddiehayesfan · 19/04/2015 22:23

He really is utterly utterly delicious.

Becles · 19/04/2015 22:23

Gordon Brown - really lovely, came across as so much more engaging and kind than he's portrayed by the press.

Anita Dobson - met her several times. She's really lovely and down to earth.

Mark Rylance is a bit of a space cadet but sharp with it. When you talk to him he's a bit fey and lulls you into underestimating him. Mind like a steel trap, quire savvy but vvvv kind and polite over the years.

Gordon Ramsey - nothing like he is on TV. Really nice.

Michael Portillo - was v kind to my mum.
I think the problems can come when people expect celebrities to be in work mode when they are in dad or getting a plumber out mode. I'm always narked when I see Jeremy Paxman because he's always with his kids so I can't go up to share how much I lufffff Blush him (hopefully sating my unreasonable pash for him once and for all).

exmrs · 19/04/2015 22:24

Nooooo not Norman wisdom Sad, as a child I watched all his films and wanted him to be my dad.

Did you meet him when he was older? I think he had dementia if I remember rightly in his later years.

engeika · 19/04/2015 22:26

Mo Farrah presented prizes at borough schools athletics event. He was really nice even though, as it was primary schools, most of the kids didn't really know who he was. Unassuming, a bit shy, very encouraging towards the kids, happy to pose for pics and sign medals when asked.
