I think I might actually quite like him! At least he's not just an overgrown public school boy, and he seems to have a shred of integrity about him. Actually, he's quite huggable really.

Dave and Gideon fics for you all

Ruperta · 17/04/2015 21:28

Agreed he was very good last night

LumpySpacedPrincess · 17/04/2015 21:32

Oh. My. God. Shock

Preminstreltension · 17/04/2015 21:35

I like Ed and always have. Used to know him quite well and he is smart and one of the good guys.

But won't it be Alex Salmond as deputy PM. Nicola won't have a Westminster seat. SNP are keeping him very quiet. I think they know he's reviled in England.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 17/04/2015 21:39

Sorry Lumpy There is also Clegg and Cameron. Cameron and Miliband. Lots of sick stuff if your into it.

StillLostAtTheStation · 17/04/2015 21:40

He's looking considerably less weird these days. I'm warming to him. He was fine in the last debate. But I always vote Labour anyway.

I wanted to throw something at the television when Sturgeon tried sucking up because the SNP and Labour should make common cause.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 17/04/2015 21:48

Tall I beg you, no more.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 17/04/2015 21:50

Ok Lumpy I'll have mercy.

StillLostAtTheStation · 17/04/2015 21:50

And I'm not convinced he will be the walkover Sturgeon and her fans think. She and Salmond are deeply untrustworthy , can't stand either of them.

The concensus I see from Labour and Tory voters is it really would be the death of Labour in Scotland to kow-tow to the Nats.

There was a suggestion in last weekend's Herald that polls were saying Tories and Lib Dems might vote Labour to keep the Nats out. I'm a Labour voter but If my seat were a marginal Lib Dem/SNP(which it might be) or Tory /SNP seat I'd vote for either of them if it kept the Nat candidate out.

BreakWindandFire · 17/04/2015 21:52

Ye gads tali. What sort of sick puppy writes sexy fiction featuring a naked Eric Pickles and Michael Gove?

I need brain bleach or at least several WineWineWineWineWineWineWineWineWineWineWineWineWineWine

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 17/04/2015 21:55

I know Break I'm an avid fan fiction writer I've never been tempted to write about any politician. I mean, Gordon Brown and Ed Miliband.

Gah, It makes me ill.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 17/04/2015 21:56

Oh lord, Alistair Campbell and Peter Mendelson. That salmon I had might be making its way back up soon.

I have always liked him and was glad he was selected as the more left wing leader to shake off Tony Blair and the new Labour legacy. I couldn't imagine his brother as leader now although I originally thought he was the more polished and confident one.
I think Ed is really growing into the role as leader and really does seem decent and principled. I did say he needed more passion but i could definitely see he had it in last night's debate.
Also agree with Breakwindandfire's wise words.
Go Ed !

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 17/04/2015 22:00

And I did Gingham

BreakWindandFire · 17/04/2015 22:11

To go back to the media, Private Eye's current edition claims that The Sun's front-page splash about Ed losing the election after a 'terrible' Leaders' debate came out before the debate had finished (and was contradicted by the actual polls conducted afterwards). Today they're claiming that if Ed wins he'll have 'sneaked in'.Hmm

This is why I think the TV debates are good - you get the candidates unfiltered by the press. 7 million watched the Leaders' Debate, well over 4 million watched the Challengers. Social media is also more prominent this time around - claims can be challenged and debunked pretty quickly. Voters can access information outside of traditional (biased) sources.

RonaldMcDonald · 18/04/2015 02:27

We've also kept quiet about who the conservatives might bed to keep power

DUP? Homophobic, creationist, anti abortion rights or access, no marriage equality act,.....I really could go on and on

But we only mention Sturgeon

RonaldMcDonald · 18/04/2015 02:31

Boris Johnston is a magician

Utterly utterly posh - Eton & Oxford and not terribly nice with it

Somehow we buy the affable buffoon act and yet he has a razor sharp intellect and is massively ambitious
Gargantuan snob

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 18/04/2015 02:42

I've never got the problem with him to be honest. I have missed something!. I think he's compassionate and he cleArly wants to make a difference.
Mind you do I dare admit. I liked David Cameron before he becAme prime Minister.Blush

AnnaFiveTowns · 18/04/2015 07:08

Well I think the problem is that he's been ridiculed mercilessly by the right -wing media, who are clearly clutching at straws. Taking a photo of him eating a bacon sandwich?! Slating his dead father! Accusing him of having girlfriends before he was married! It's all utterly ridiculous and has backfired somewhat. Especially as Ed has remained very dignified throughout.

I really hope he wins the election, if only to stick two fingers up to The Mail et al.

Kampeki · 18/04/2015 08:35

It might be a bit of a shock to the press to discover that they don't necessarily get to decide the outcome of every general election!

Plarail123 · 18/04/2015 10:56

God help Britain.

LumpySpacedPrincess · 18/04/2015 13:16

Plarall the poor and the disabled may feel very differently to you. Smile

SilverBirch2015 · 18/04/2015 13:51

I've been a fan of Ed's since I saw him on a documentary when he was Environment minister. He was honest and very straight talking. I actually joined the Labour Party in order to vote for him, as party leader.

I frankly find all this talk of him stabbing his brother in the back, ludicrous. Seriously are people saying that older siblings have special rights, it's like harking back to the days when oldest male heir inherited. What if a female politician challenged her brother to a position, would that be considered n some way emasculating him?

Have no doubt that Ed is a principled, eloquent and strong leader. He has the ability to take tough decisions and see them through (like taking on the media and his stance on bombing Syria) He is not a politician who is focused on soundbite politics like PR man Cameron or personally ambitious Clegg.

The ability to eat a bacon sandwich without looking odd, is a skill not many of us possess and will have no impact on how effective we are at work.

Lottapianos · 18/04/2015 16:51

Great post SilverBirch. I also voted for him in leadership election. And I agree that the 'backstabbing' nonsense makes no sense and I can't quite believe people are still banging on about it. And seriously, bacon sandwiches?! Hmm Just shows you how little real criticism they have to throw at him
