I think I might actually quite like him! At least he's not just an overgrown public school boy, and he seems to have a shred of integrity about him. Actually, he's quite huggable really.

I like him. I used to think he was the wrong milliband but I'm changing my mind.

Saw Johnson speak at the cambridge literary festival - effortlessly engaging, although hardly a challenging audience - but my DD, aged 18, really liked him and couldn't understand why he wasn't leader.

Cabbagesandcustard · 17/04/2015 17:53

Agree; it must take great strength of character to remain unruffled after so much personal abuse.
I, like many, thought that they'd picked the wrong brother - but now I see that David M. was too "New Labour".
I am hoping that Ed may be a slow burner and eventually a solid PM.
Should add that I'm not really Labour, but more Labour than Tory and that's what the stark choice is in my constituency.

Figmentofmyimagination · 17/04/2015 17:54

I do wonder at the likely market fall out however, if he wins a majority. It is going to be pretty turbulent. And the media will be vile. Interesting times.

Cabbagesandcustard · 17/04/2015 17:57

And for those who say he's not statesmanlike, look at FDR. You don't have to be statesmanlike to be a great leader.

VirginiaTonic · 17/04/2015 17:57

Ooooo, glad I'm not alone!

I like him and, having read the manifesto, I desperately want to believe in him. My mistrust is based on politicians in general, not Ed personally. I trusted Nick Clegg and feel very let down.

cinders456 · 17/04/2015 17:58

In short, yes YABU.

deadduck · 17/04/2015 17:59

And me. I used to be a bit of a David-groupie. Sorry for repeating myself (I said this on another thread already) but I saw EM on Saturday and he was just great. I didn't think he was PM material, but I can now. He has charisma. He seems like a really decent, genuine, intelligent person who actually gives a shit. I'm crossing my fingers so tightly they are now blue.

UncertainSmile · 17/04/2015 18:01

I think David Milliband was too intertwined with the Blair years; wasn't there an issue with torture while he was foreign secretary?

VirginiaTonic · 17/04/2015 18:02

I struggle to see why anyone votes Conservative, except for the very rich.

OP posts:
Tiredemma · 17/04/2015 18:04

I hope the public are seeing the same as us.

GentlyBenevolent · 17/04/2015 18:07

I voted for him in the leadership election. I've always liked him. But he has really bloomed in the last few weeks. The real campaign - as opposed to the phoney war - has suited him. It's as if he's finely said fuck it, I'm going to be myself and that;s all there is to it. He looks so much more relaxed. And he was always a decent, honest and clever man. My DH - who voted for his brother in the leadership election and has been quite critical of Ed - has even come round to him. In every election, you see people rising to the challenge, and people...not. Most of the tory big shots have dwindled almost visibly during the campaign. Ed hasn't. He's ready to lead (rather than just wanting to - Cameron has never been ready and never will be), he knows it and hopefully the country now knows it too.

Mummyboo30 · 17/04/2015 18:08

YABU please please please don't put labour back in power, each time they get in, they fuck the country in the arse.
Their policies are far fetched, and they will drive us all back into worse debt again. Just give Cam the chance to finish what they have started and get us back on an even keel!

GoldfishSpy · 17/04/2015 18:13

YANBU.

I wasn't going to vote for him, but now I am.

Anniegetyourgun · 17/04/2015 18:14

What a hideous thought. Stop the buggers before even more depressed people deemed fit to work kill themselves, more like.

UncertainSmile · 17/04/2015 18:14

mummyboo, as you can see from this link, the Tories pledged to match Labour spending until the (worldwide) crash. This story that Labour mucked up the economy while the prudent Tories stood horrified in the background is bollocks.

UncertainSmile · 17/04/2015 18:16

I really, really wish that Labour would come out fighting and challenge this Tory 'ooh look at the mess they left us' bullshit.

WastingMyYoungYears · 17/04/2015 18:18

YANBU, I'm also more and more impressed with him all the time.

The power that the media have to skew their representation of the political parties is terrifying.

BishopBrennansArse · 17/04/2015 18:20

Don't forget the thousands of working families using food banks, Annie.
Or the plans to abolish carers allowance and tax DLA...

UncertainSmile · 17/04/2015 18:23

I want to see that bastard IDS being sanctioned at the jobcentre after the election. He won't, of course. He's got his wife's millions to live off

Tiredemma · 17/04/2015 18:25

I loathe IDS- he is an utter piece of shit

LaurieMarlow · 17/04/2015 18:25

He's seeming more credible and getting better all the time. It's a shame all this personal development has come so late in the game, but there's nothing to be done about that now.

I was always going to vote Labour, but now I'm happy that the decision is not 'in spite of' its leader. I'm interested to see what he would do as PM.

Anniegetyourgun · 17/04/2015 18:28

Ah, but we know why they use food banks, don't we? It's because they can

Hmm Angry
ouryve · 17/04/2015 18:32

Pyjamas I live in Blair's old constituency. I voted Green when he was in, I disliked him that much.
