If they had said it , from the start and not lied to appear grateful it would have been done and gone.

londonrach · 20/04/2015 22:02

People are still asking on the fb page...

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 21/04/2015 09:22

I asked that on the first thread Mischalively as I've got a preemie too. Someone said they'd announced Dax has no health problems at all though. They could easily have used that as a reason. They've been very lucky indeed and you'd think just being in the hospital with babies that aren't so lucky might make them realise. I think the money has been spent long ago though

AgathaChristie01 · 21/04/2015 09:58

I am guessing that they are hoping that by staying quiet, the whole thing will fizzle out, and be forgotten about.
It's a shame that such a worthwhile charity, which supported them, in their hour of need, seems to have lost out on what should have been a substantial donation.

fluffymouse · 21/04/2015 10:08

mischa if they had said they were raising money for the future needs of their son that would have been a different matter.

They however said it was for medical expenses, which changed to general expenses after it was confirmed there would be no medical expenses. They said that any excess, after their expenses, would be donated to RMH. Since insurance covered everything, there should be no expenses on their part. Now there is still no real confirmation of a donation.

Its the dishonesty at every stage that is reprehensible.

FromMeToYou · 21/04/2015 10:08

Has their local paper done any articles on them? Are they the type of paper to do a follow up?

fluffymouse · 21/04/2015 10:15

Some mumsnetters have been tweeting various papers from . It would still be worth trying again.

MyArksNotReady · 21/04/2015 10:16

Has anyone contacted the local paper with all the screen shots?

squoosh · 21/04/2015 10:28

If I was a journo at their local Bugle I'd be all over this. Makes a difference from dog poo wars.

BooChunky · 21/04/2015 10:32

It disgusts me but I think this ship has sailed and they've totally got away with it to be honest.

Mischalively · 21/04/2015 11:26

Fluffymouse, I totally agree about the continued changing of the goalposts.

Just a theory that I'll put out there: Is it possible that Lee phoned Richard to inform him that they had the baby unexpectedly whilst on holiday and in the drama of the moment got carried away and embellished the situation? Is it possible that he told Richard that as they were now stranded in NYC and they weren't able to come back to work and were in dire need of cash, and then told a dramatic fib that he wasn't sure that the insurance was able to pay? Richard - with his entrepreneurial mind, sees, and seizes an opportunity to drum up media interest and attention, and raise money. The whole situation then snowballs and it is revealed that the insurance cover was never in doubt but by this point, the story has run away with itself and Lee's original fib for dramatic purposes has now created a situation where a lot of money has been unexpectedly been made. Once the money was in their bank account, they felt unable to part with it.

As I said, it's just a theory

Mischalively · 21/04/2015 11:29

English isn't my first language so please excuse any mistakes.

yallahabibi · 23/04/2015 13:05

It has all gone horribly quiet but I wonder if Skegness people are still talking about it and make face to face comments . I couldn't help myself it I bumped into these thieves .

londonrach · 23/04/2015 16:50

Anyone near by know anymore about this? Bet its the talk of the town

squoosh · 23/04/2015 16:57

Looks like they're still deleting comments so maybe it isn't dying down as much as they'd like.

Scambuster3 · 23/04/2015 17:55

Tiny donation?

squoosh · 23/04/2015 18:01

we can confirm that a donation was received from the Johnston family. So that we might continue to direct our resources to families currently staying at the House, we ask that all future inquiries about the family’s fundraising efforts be directed to Dax's Tale of New York.

Sounds a bit terse from RMH. If the donation was in anyway sizeable Dax's folks would be proclaiming it with a loudspeaker.

Scambuster3 · 23/04/2015 18:02

Dax's blocks people, so poor RMH are left with the comments. Hardest £10 they earned?

Ugly comments on RMH, because dax's block people.

squoosh · 23/04/2015 18:07

Poor RMH!

Rebecca2014 · 23/04/2015 18:08

Guys, let it go. The press are not going run with the story, why? because it was a feel good story and they can't be bothered to go back and say they got it wrong. I could tell straight away it was a con but a lot of silly people just gave them money for free! Those people deserve to lose their money for being so stupid.

The parents took advantage of the situation and they won. They even got a RMH statement confirming they did donate so what paper is going to touch them now?

Mamiof3 · 23/04/2015 18:12

Think people should let it go, hopefully karma will bite these people in the arse, personally I think the dad and his mate are loving the attention, they are acting like they are the only people in the world to have a prem baby - there are loads, and they don't need or get special trust funds donated by strangers to 'help them' through life. Shaking head.

Scambuster3 · 23/04/2015 18:13

I doubt everyone will let this go.

Scambuster3 · 23/04/2015 18:18

Dax Johnston will know never to believe a word, from those around him. Poor kid. Sad

fluffymouse · 23/04/2015 18:33

It looks like they have been heavy with the delete button once more, and have stopped any new comments.

They have clearly got away with scamming RMH and the public. I doubt we will hear any more from them.
