To never speak to this friend again?

She has just outed herself on Facebook as a UKIP supporter. I always knew she was a bit racist but she lives in a backwater. What the hell do I do now?! Should I just never speak to her again?

It is possible not to want more immigration, or to impose stricter limits, without being racist.
I suppose some people may buy into the false argument that immigration is responsible for rises in unemployment.
And I suppose it is possible to be a long term UKIP supporter based on their initial stance over more independence from the European Union.
However... I would consider very carefully why a particular person supports UKIP, as I suspect in most cases it wouldn't be the type of person I would want to be friends with.

Not sure why using a phone prevents you reading the entire thread, Maliaki. I have posted some updates - one saying that the OP was meant to be lighthearted. Also that my friend's racism is generally unthinking and that I have in fact challenged her in the past. My takeaway from this thread is to stick to the maxim "never discuss politics or religion ".

I did read the whole thread thanks but since your posts weren't hightlighted I obviously missed it, as I said I may have done but thanks for pointing out to me that you actually do challenge her racism.

I think lightedhearted is fair enough but when you say someone is racist and bring in the idea of racist ideals that doesn't make the whole thread feel lighthearted at all, hence why so many people are passionately debating and arguing about it.

If her racism is unthinking and you think she's being unthinking in her vote because she doesn't know then maybe you should tell her how you feel. I pointed out some piss poor policies of three of the parties my friend was debating between which she was shocked about- one being Ukip.
