AIBU in thinking that my coffee shouldn't of been thrown away?

I'm in Costa having a VERY rare couple of hours 'child free' time. My husband has taken my daughter out for a bit so I can relax and read for a bit. I'm in Costa and ordered a Mocha and a cake - I had been sat down 5 minutes or so and needed the loo (couldn't wait to finish drink and cake as I have a medical problem from giving birth which means when I need to go, I need to go IYSWIM!) Anyway I was probably gone 2-3 minutes and came back to find the waitress has cleared the table I was sat at and thrown my coffee and un- eaten slice of cake away! It was nearly full still and my coat was on the chair.

AIBU to be a bit annoyed at having to buy another coffee (didn't bother buying more cake) or was it perfectly reasonable for the waitress to of chucked it away while i was in the bathroom? I mentioned it to the cashier but she just said "oh dear, sorry about that "and took my money for another coffee. I'm prepared to be shot down as I've seen how aibu can be lol. But AIBU here or are Costa?

Dear Lord Above - it was a flippin' coffee and a piece of cake!! Go and buy a box of Mr Kiplings' and get home and enjoy them with your husband and child.
Crikey - flippin' Mumsnet and its inane nonsense...I haven't been to a café without kids for years.
The most exciting thing that has happened to me recently was my youngest child proudly displaying his banana-shaped poo for my other children to view.
Count your blessings love, many of us would love that to be a big deal in our lives!
BTW - the poo WAS just like a banana.

I would email them casually mentioning a mumsnet AIBU - "I was too tired to do anything about it at the time but mumsnet think IANBU so I thought I should contact you...etc". You'll probably send their public relations people into a tizzy and you'll have a lifetime supply of mocha and brownies gifted to you. Or at least a voucher or two! Smile

Yeah course there's no way you could have prevented yourself from pointing that out full. Hmm Ffs

Yes Plate and a free lemon tart for everyone on this thread. Smile

Heysham1 Yellow as in banana with peel on or off-white as in banana with peel off?

Happyyellowcar · 10/04/2015 19:53

heysham1 please don't belittle other people's small pleasures! A cuppa in a coffee shop in peace for half an hour can sometimes be priceless! Pity it was ruined!

DrLego · 10/04/2015 19:56

YABU for going to Costa. YANBU for expecting relatively intact items you have purchased to not be thrown away when you left your coat at the table. I think I would usually have bought another coffee due to embarrassment, although I may now be more forthcoming and assertive an simply ask for another one.

When my kids were babies / toddlers then a peaceful coffee and cake on my own in a cafe, either reading a book or a newspaper, would have been worth their weight in gold.

It wouldn't matter that other people's children would be around. I could ignore them largely and enjoy a change of scene on my own without constant demands and interruptions from my kids.

Bliss. Important and not to be belittled. Sanity saving.

Smooshface · 10/04/2015 23:08

Heysham1 - maybe this thread isn't for you, it's for people that enjoy peaceful coffee and cake, a rare rare thing. She can enjoy kipling with husband and child any darn day of the week. She earned that pleasure, why can't she be annoyed when it is taken away?

Mommy needs a break too you know, I'm happy for you being superwoman and all that.

NadiaWadia · 10/04/2015 23:31

Actually, I am surprised that a Costa Coffee Company rep hasn't turned up on here, inviting the OP to get in touch so they can sort something out for her. It's not very good publicity for them, is it?

Coumarin · 11/04/2015 03:59

It was a brownie! A whole brownie in the bin! ShockSad

It was bad customer service. What if you hadn't the money for another one. You could tweet them? That often gets a good response. Up thread someone was sent a voucher after complaining. Get your voucher!

@Costacoffee

Actually, looking at their feed, you aren't the only one who has had this problem. They're replying to identical complaints, apologising and offering to 'make it up' to them.

DrankSangriaInThePark · 11/04/2015 06:33

I have difficulty seeing lines drawn under things....
It may cheer the OP up to know that not only is she NBU but the 4 soi-disant grammar pedants (and they wouldn't get through the door of PC when I'm on guard) 8 really glaring errors themselves.
I am available for consultation should they, you know, fancy a bit of light-hearted taking the piss out of their English.
