AIBU in thinking that my coffee shouldn't of been thrown away?

I'm in Costa having a VERY rare couple of hours 'child free' time. My husband has taken my daughter out for a bit so I can relax and read for a bit. I'm in Costa and ordered a Mocha and a cake - I had been sat down 5 minutes or so and needed the loo (couldn't wait to finish drink and cake as I have a medical problem from giving birth which means when I need to go, I need to go IYSWIM!) Anyway I was probably gone 2-3 minutes and came back to find the waitress has cleared the table I was sat at and thrown my coffee and un- eaten slice of cake away! It was nearly full still and my coat was on the chair.

AIBU to be a bit annoyed at having to buy another coffee (didn't bother buying more cake) or was it perfectly reasonable for the waitress to of chucked it away while i was in the bathroom? I mentioned it to the cashier but she just said "oh dear, sorry about that "and took my money for another coffee. I'm prepared to be shot down as I've seen how aibu can be lol. But AIBU here or are Costa?

I am struggling a bit with the "shouldn't of", " could of"- yes I know, I am an unwilling member of the grammar police, and this is my problem not the OPs. It is out of order for me to mention it; I know I am being rude, but I can't help myself. I deserve any criticism coming my way, so apologies to all who think I am a pedant: yes I probably am

This is one of the loveliest things I have ever read on AIBU! I have been there so often Brim I may just use this every time I feel the urge to go on Grammar Police vigilante patrol!!!

NellysKnickers · 10/04/2015 15:34

Bit late to complain now but now you know you are well within you rights to, should it happen again.

Snottybiyatch · 10/04/2015 15:35

Oh ffs can we just ignore the pedant please

Well I will consider myself duly chastened too, then, and thank Brim once again for taking one for the team!

You make a very fair point Worra

Snottybiyatch · 10/04/2015 15:37

That is really useful info Lily. I have always found Whitbread to be pretty spot on wrt customer care so I would think a quick non moany styleee email in that direction where necessary would reap dividends.

Golly I am finding this thread useful!

Welshmaenad · 10/04/2015 15:39

If you told them they'd chucked your coffee and cake and they still asked for payment for a replacement, I'd email actually.

Newrule · 10/04/2015 15:41

You were very unreasonable to pay again.

TheReluctantCountess · 10/04/2015 15:43

I don't know why you paid again. They made a mistake and I'm sure they would have replaced it if you had asked.

Maybe they were bothered by your grammar too Grin

IsadoraQuagmire · 10/04/2015 15:45

YANBU. If the waitress genuinely thought you'd left, why didn't she hand in your coat as lost property, surely she saw it on the chair...
Anyway it was their mistake, and I'd be annoyed. Coffee and cake in cafes is expensive!

GraysAnalogy · 10/04/2015 15:47

Oh sod off fulltothebrim how exactly are you struggling, you know damn well what it means.

Private I feel that way often on threads like this. I always wish I could swap bodies for a bit and get it sorted.

SunnyBaudelaire · 10/04/2015 15:51

I would of asked them to replace it tbh.
By the way if you send a complaint to Costa head office, they will send you a few quid on a card.

steff13 · 10/04/2015 15:51

I then said another Mocha I guess and then she held her hand out for the money.

She just held out her hand for the money? No, "that will be $5 please," or anything? Rude.

You should have said something at the time, I probably wouldn't complain at this point. They were unreasonable to throw your food away, and unreasonable not to replace it for free. Unless you were gone a lot longer 2-3 minutes.

RedToothBrush · 10/04/2015 15:52

I WOULD email. Head Offices of Chains like this like to keep standards up for a variety of reasons. Getting feedback like this is a good way for them to pull socks up.

I've received vouchers in the past for poor service even though I didn't complain at the time because I don't like making a fuss either.

BumWad · 10/04/2015 15:52

Sorry but I'm finding it really hard to read 'of' instead of 'have'.

I will leave the thread now.

SunnyBaudelaire · 10/04/2015 15:53

you should of got used to it by now bumwad

Snottybiyatch · 10/04/2015 15:53

Grays....I think Brim may have meant that s/he was having a bit of existential angst as to whether to give way to the desire to say something about the have/of thing. Cut him/her some slack...I share the pain and it may have been a long hard week. And s/he did it very deprecatingly. Come on boys and girls let's all play nicely!

Btw Spider you sound way too nice!

GraysAnalogy · 10/04/2015 15:54

you should of just not bothered commenting

BumWad · 10/04/2015 15:54

Grin Sunny.

It makes my teeth itch

BullshitS70 · 10/04/2015 15:54

They did this to me at soft play a few weeks ago. I went straight up to the café and told them and they just looked at me and said 'oh sorry' so I said I'd like a replacement cake please' and that was fine

Idiots though, who does that when our coats and bags were there?

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 10/04/2015 15:54

Yes OP, please email them and complain. You need the money refunding for your drink and cake and a bit extra for the upset and inconvenience. A tenner on a Costa card sounds fair.

In what world is it good customer service to throw away untouched food/drink where a coat has been left. I presume you weren't gone gone for more than a few minutes?

Viviennemary · 10/04/2015 15:55

That was really bad of them IMHO. Write and say how disappointed you are and they might even send you a voucher.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 10/04/2015 15:55

How could criticising the grammar of a very tired, clearly not massively assertive, poster be anything other than taking a pop? Hmm

SunnyBaudelaire · 10/04/2015 15:56

bumwad me too tbh

GraysAnalogy · 10/04/2015 15:56

No snotty I won't cut anyone slack, just because they had some turmoil about it doesn't mean they were right in trying to pull people up on something that really doesn't matter. I'm sick of grammar pendants on here, it's boring and snide. And I think play nicely applies to those, no matter how much self deprecation they show

'oh i just can't help myself I;m so sorry it's my fault i just can't help but say it....you're a twat'. Doesn't really work
