AIBU in thinking that my coffee shouldn't of been thrown away?

I'm in Costa having a VERY rare couple of hours 'child free' time. My husband has taken my daughter out for a bit so I can relax and read for a bit. I'm in Costa and ordered a Mocha and a cake - I had been sat down 5 minutes or so and needed the loo (couldn't wait to finish drink and cake as I have a medical problem from giving birth which means when I need to go, I need to go IYSWIM!) Anyway I was probably gone 2-3 minutes and came back to find the waitress has cleared the table I was sat at and thrown my coffee and un- eaten slice of cake away! It was nearly full still and my coat was on the chair.

AIBU to be a bit annoyed at having to buy another coffee (didn't bother buying more cake) or was it perfectly reasonable for the waitress to of chucked it away while i was in the bathroom? I mentioned it to the cashier but she just said "oh dear, sorry about that "and took my money for another coffee. I'm prepared to be shot down as I've seen how aibu can be lol. But AIBU here or are Costa?

Why didnt you say something to them and they would have replaced it free on your return from the toilet. Yabu to not complain at the time.

Sparklingbrook · 10/04/2015 15:58

I am cross on your behalf now OP Angry That's just not right.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 10/04/2015 15:59

I'd email now that you have had a chance to get cross about it. Be more assertive in future! Asserting your rights is not making a fuss.

WorraLiberty · 10/04/2015 15:59

If people can't get over the fact that some people in the world aren't very good when it comes to grammar, what the fuck are they doing on the internet?

So yet another thread has been taken on a tangent because some people just have to pull an OP up.

I reported the first poster who started this shit, but I'm not holding my breath that HQ will finally clamp down on these people.

Sparklingbrook · 10/04/2015 16:00

At least your table was still there, as your coat was on the back of the chair.
I am surprised some table hogger hadn't chucked it and sat down.

SunnyBaudelaire · 10/04/2015 16:00

oh it is definitely worth complaining to this kind of company.
I complained about rude service in one branch and received a costa card with six quid on it. Not that six quid goes v far in costa.

Topseyt · 10/04/2015 16:00

Mistakes happen of course, but people have to be prepared to put them right.

The mistake was made by Costa. Therefore I would have had no qualms at all about asking for replacement coffee and cake at no extra cost.

You shouldn't have agreed to pay for your replacements. If I were you I would try to get the money back by emailing the CEO. Say you have had time to think about it since the incident and aren't happy.

Snottybiyatch · 10/04/2015 16:00

Lonny ...serves me right for getting into this....but I honestly did not see that Brim was taking a pop at all (other than at him/herself for being borderline anal)

I genuinely did not see it as anything other than good natured teasing/banter.

Brim help me out here...I'm fighting a rearguard action on your behalf all on my own!!! Grin

GraysAnalogy · 10/04/2015 16:00

Sorry worra partly my fault for having a mini rant Blush

PurpleSwift · 10/04/2015 16:01

YABU to not ask for a replacement. They should have offered but I don't tbink the waitres is to blame, especially if it was busy

OnlyLovers · 10/04/2015 16:01

YANBU. Pity you didn't make more of it at the time, but I totally see why it might flummox you if you were tired –as well as confused by their behaviour!

Email them, not horribly but just calmly saying what happened. Any half-decent manager/customer service person will make profuse apologies and give you a voucher to cover at least the second coffee you had to pay for, and hopefully both coffees and the cake.

If they don't, you can just say that in that case you'll be going elsewhere for coffee from now on.

I've NEVER come across this. It's a bit Shock.

OnIlkleyMoorBahTwat · 10/04/2015 16:02

I hadn't noticed the grammatical error. I often do, but not this time until it was pointed out.

However, I would never comment on it as it is rude and unnecessary and there are many reasons for posts being in less than perfect grammar, not that it is necessary on an internet forum.

I have reported fulltothebrim's post as a personal attack as plenty of people would find such a comment upsetting.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 10/04/2015 16:02

Snotty it's not just Brim

Snottybiyatch · 10/04/2015 16:05

Gosh, some people need to take a leaf out of OP's laid back book.

I'll save my betting for the weekend Worra but in any case I'm not putting any money on Brim's post getting deleted (could be wrong, can't be too careful) because I can't see that any talk guidelines have been broken, but then what do I know?

Chill people...., the sky is blue, the grass is riz etc etc; which is NOT to say that the OP's point is not worth discussing. It is, it is....sheesh...have I covered all the bases?

WorraLiberty · 10/04/2015 16:05

Doesn't matter Grays, I'm also now guilty too Blush

But I really wish HQ would deal with these people before MN becomes a place that people are too scared to use, unless they have a Master's degree in English.

IonaMumsnet · 10/04/2015 16:06

People, people! It's Friday afternoon! We don't want to talk grammar. We want to talk coffee! We are drawing a line under this now

Let's please get back to the matter in hand.

StationeryOrdering · 10/04/2015 16:07

Waitress made a mistake clearing your stuff, no complaint there. The complaint is that when it was raised at the till the cashier charged you for a replacement. I'd definitely email.

'Not in the spirit of Mumsnet', seems to be the catch all phrase that HQ use Snotty.

Icimoi · 10/04/2015 16:07

WorraLiberty, why didn't you just ignore the post in question, FGS? It was duly apologetic and really didn't call for any comment from you or anyone else. It's posts like yours that really derail threads.

IonaMumsnet · 10/04/2015 16:07

That line was rubbish. We need a 'line' emoji.

Icimoi · 10/04/2015 16:08

Right, back to coffee. OP, I hope you're now less tired and able to email Costa to tell them about this and ask for a refund.

GraysAnalogy · 10/04/2015 16:08

Yeah they do snotty, including brim for just having to have the pop in the first place.

If I was a first time poster and someone thought it was a good idea to have a go at me for something so small when all I wanted to do was seek advice, well I wouldn't come back because I'd either be hurt or flip at them.

People wouldn't be as rude to do it in real life to strangers but behind a PC it's all fine...

GraysAnalogy · 10/04/2015 16:08

Oops can we restart the line I missed it
