Why are there so few Tall Sections in women's shops?

I see lots of Plus-Size Sections and Petite Sections as well as Regular, but very few shops now have a Tall Section.
And what there is in 'Tall' is completely shapeless. I'm tall, but also have a small waist and decent sized hips. I want shaped clothes that go in and out and emphasize my shape, not shapeless things that hang. Which seems to make up the bulk of clothes you find in Tall.

In Next, none of their nipped-in-waist style blouses and jackets are featured in their Tall Catalog, only shapeless, loose-fitting rubbish (oh I forgot to say -they don't even have the actual tall clothes in any of their shops).
Unlike Petite! There's a whole range for them (and why isn't Petite called 'Short' Hmm Why do they get the 'naice' name?) Hmm
But that's a whole other argument.

Somebody did a survey on here once, and there were a LOT of ladies 5'8 and over.
And people are being born bigger and taller. So why are we not being catered for?

At the moment there is only LTS and possibly one or two other shops, that seem to cater mainly for 20 -30 year olds.
So there is definitely a fantastic 'opening' in the market for some clever person (with money) to make a killing and clean up.

How do other tall ladies find the whole shopping experience?

I should have listened :(
My boden order came and the two tops are so short and boxy.
The dresses in long are better but the only long bit is the hem . The waist is just under the boobs.

spookyskeleton · 19/04/2015 16:28

Yep, Boden tops are not made for tall people! Cannot understand why they do all of their dresses, skirts and trousers in a long length but apparently tall people have no requirement for longer tops Hmm

I saw a lovely peplum-ish top yesterday, but the sticky-outy bit that should have started at the waist would have started just under my ribs. Sigh.

takes a seat

6ft tall, 36" inside leg, size 14. Hourglass shaped (about DD/E cup bra size.

I need Long Tall Bravissimo.

And yet I am not disproportionate, I don't think.
Most of my stuff is from LTS, Next etc. can get away with some stuff from Debenhams.
Tankinis are okay for swimwear, but I also want to cover my stretch marked wobbly tummy with lovely post-two-CS pouch. So not ideal.

How I would love to walk into a shop, buy some jeans and walk out happy. Ah well.

There are loads of tall women so must be a market At 5ft 10 " I'm only slightly taller than average amongst my friends and colleagues.

I'm in Qatar so also have to cover boobage, arms and knees. Midriff isn't supposed to be on display (not that I'd purposely show it ) so those boden tops I bought are useless .

I love this thread. I am only 5'6" but I used to get a lot of "gosh aren't you tall!" on first dates, so it must be taller than average! (Now with DH who is 6'4" and does not think I am excessively tall!")

I am size 14, long bodied, big boobed, short legged, absolutely hate the muffin top experience, also the phenomenon of empire line dresses that don't fit over boobs.

My poor mum is 5'11" , size 16 and has just relied on men's clothes much of her life :(

I have one good maternity swimsuit from LTS but it fits me better when I am not pregnant Smile

meringue33 · 20/04/2015 00:20

Often my shopping trips are simply a long look in TKMaxx holding every top I see up against me to see if it is long enough.

goldylookingpane · 20/04/2015 00:23

TK Max have some really good long tops.
I think they are calle Arrabella something or other
Or is that Anabella? Hmm

That is sad and why I only lasted a short time living in Asia . Years before online shopping and delivery , there were two choices -
mens clothes or going to a tailor who would ask why I was so big every single bloody time I went .
I'd go into shops and ask for long trousers and taken straight to the mens section.

LustyBusty · 20/04/2015 08:01

Yes yes yes thewaves 6ft tall, 34inch leg (so slightly longer legs, slightly longer body, slightly longer chuffing everything) and a 38hh. If I buy something in a supermarket (asda have some lovely "bubble blouses") I have to buy a 24 to get boobage + length. 24!!! I'm an 18 super duper curvy in bravissimo. Sad

BabyGanoush · 20/04/2015 08:04

I am 6ft and just wear "normal" clothes (apart from jeans, Dorothy Perkins Tall).

I avoid certain shops (M&S) but can find longer t-shirts easily at H&M for example. Dresses anywhere.

Sometimes waists are a bit high in dresses though, or skirts are a bit "mini" on me, but generally I have no trouble finding clothes.

It used to be hard, but not any more, IMO

BabyGanoush · 20/04/2015 08:06

Cannot buy Boden though.

RingtheBells · 20/04/2015 18:18

A lot of clothes now are boxy style. At Next a lot of the tops and knitwear are even called boxy names, who wants to wear something short, wide and flappy even if you are normal height, on someone tall they look even more ridiculous. I also don't like the fashion for something to be long at the back and short at the front. Boden is another place that does a lot of boxy tops.

meringue33 · 20/04/2015 19:43

Yes a long spell in TKMaxx is often worthwhile.

Goldy, Yalla, yes it is :(

Ring I totally agree!

This thread has inspired me to get my sewing machine working again, it seems the only solution!
