Why are there so few Tall Sections in women's shops?

I see lots of Plus-Size Sections and Petite Sections as well as Regular, but very few shops now have a Tall Section.
And what there is in 'Tall' is completely shapeless. I'm tall, but also have a small waist and decent sized hips. I want shaped clothes that go in and out and emphasize my shape, not shapeless things that hang. Which seems to make up the bulk of clothes you find in Tall.

In Next, none of their nipped-in-waist style blouses and jackets are featured in their Tall Catalog, only shapeless, loose-fitting rubbish (oh I forgot to say -they don't even have the actual tall clothes in any of their shops).
Unlike Petite! There's a whole range for them (and why isn't Petite called 'Short' Hmm Why do they get the 'naice' name?) Hmm
But that's a whole other argument.

Somebody did a survey on here once, and there were a LOT of ladies 5'8 and over.
And people are being born bigger and taller. So why are we not being catered for?

At the moment there is only LTS and possibly one or two other shops, that seem to cater mainly for 20 -30 year olds.
So there is definitely a fantastic 'opening' in the market for some clever person (with money) to make a killing and clean up.

How do other tall ladies find the whole shopping experience?

Thanks Charlie..I couldn't see a tall section on the website.
Not exactly extensive though

Fluffyears · 09/04/2015 20:09

Tesco trousers are awful. I also find it hard to get skirts that actually cover my arse. I always wanted a nice trendy Demin skirt about ten years ago when they were really fashionable but could never get one that didn't show the bottom of my arse cheeks. Have to always buy longer length shorts for the same reason, I also find tops are like bloody crop tops a lot too :(

BifsWif · 09/04/2015 20:10

Agree with PP that ASOS tall range is brilliant, 34inch is standard long length but isn't long enough for me. I've never had a problem with the fit of anything from ASOS.

goldylookingpane · 09/04/2015 20:12

What's the answer.
Should we be bombarding these places with emails?
They can't say there isn't demand. There is.

Shoes are awful Sad i

badRoly · 09/04/2015 20:19

The combination of tall AND plus size is a pita too - you can only be tall if you are not bigger than size 18 in my experience... Hmm

I am a 5ft10 size18/20 with an hourglass type figure. Blessed apparently Confused

littlebillie · 09/04/2015 20:19

Good quality workwear is hard too

BikeRunSki · 09/04/2015 20:20

Jayne. DS (91st centile height) grew out of his "birth to potty" nappies at 19 months for exactly the reasons in your knicker theory.

I am 5'8". I have fairly diddy 32" inside legs, but I struggle with tops. Why don't tops come in different lengths like trousers? I know Gap do, but only online.

Orangeanddemons · 09/04/2015 20:21

I dream just dream of finding a dress with a waistline ON THE WAIST and not under my boobs somewhere. I hate LTS dresses so they are no good

badRoly · 09/04/2015 20:21

Oh and I have size 9/10 feet and massive hands/wrists so can't even distract myself from the misery of clothes shopping by buying shoes/gloves/bangles Grin but I do have many bags to compensate

badRoly · 09/04/2015 20:23

Orange I hear you and add:
Empire cut tunics that actually fit below the bust...
Long sleeves that are...
Shoulders that go right across ( rather than end by my bra strap)

Flossieflower01 · 09/04/2015 20:24

Agree completely- loads of midget clothes, nothing for tall!

MehsMum · 09/04/2015 20:30

Fucking jeans
Gap are supposed to do long ones, but are they ever in stock? Hohohobloodyho.

I end up buying lots of my clothes in pricey places like East just so I can have sleeves that actually reach the hands on the end of my gibbon arms. Am wearing an East top as I type...

Bitte? Moi?

MehsMum · 09/04/2015 20:31

Bitter
So bitter I can no longer type in English...

MrsBojingles · 09/04/2015 20:39

YANBU. Try living in Wales. All petite sections here. I can't find anything that fits, ever.

IntellectualLlama · 09/04/2015 20:41

It particularly annoys me that even when shops do 'long' versions of trousers, they just seem to add a couple of inches to the leg (which means they are still often too short). Don't they realise that if someone is tall, they will need a bigger gap between the gusset and the waistband too? I'm sick of jeans and trousers only coming halfway up my hips.

I am pretty tall at 5'11, but every day I see loads of women my height or taller on the train/tube. There are lots of us, so the shops have no excuse not to provide clothes for us!

ItsADinosaur · 09/04/2015 20:41

At least if you're short you can shorten trousers

Yes but the you lose the shape of them! And I hate sewing. Also if I've paid money for something why I should I spend extra to get them the right length?

The problem when you're short is that skirts and dresses are pointless to buy as they sit somewhere near my ankles or below the knee. It's ridiculous. Tops are so long and just hang.

goldylookingpane · 09/04/2015 20:42

Bikerunski,
I'm the same.
My leg length is in between regular length and long length. So I usually end up buying a long pair and shortening them an inch.
But tops are a problem and dresses. The waist never sits in the right place. I wish they would do longer lengths in the torso area.
Even regular size people have been complaining about M & S tops being too short.

goldylookingpane · 09/04/2015 20:44

ItsADinosaur, I know wht you mean about shortening trousers and losing the shape, especially if they have a slight flair.

ItsADinosaur · 09/04/2015 20:48

It's just like a complete lack of maternity clothing in shops. Which is even worse when you deviate from the 'norm'.

goldylookingpane · 09/04/2015 20:49

MrsBojingles, we should all go an live in Norway or Holland or the States, they have lots of tall people!

I'm sure there are more short people in Britain. I always feel as if I stand out a mile when I walk down the highs street and I'm not that tall. I'm 5'10.
and yet, on holiday in Europe, I feel as if I blend in with the crowd.

P0llyP0cketR0cket · 09/04/2015 20:50

And what about trying to find tall maternity clothes eh?! Angry

goldylookingpane · 09/04/2015 20:52

MehsMum,
East clothes and LTS are very expensive. I can only afford to buy from them when they have a sale on.

DrCoconut · 09/04/2015 20:58

Agreewith those saying that it is hard for shorter women to find trousers, especially inexpensive jeans. And don't get me started on maternity wear. I have found ranges where short is 30"! I need a 29", 30 is dragging along the floor. Maternity clothes have to have a section cut off the bottom, often ruining the shape or cost a fortune for a more upmarket make with a choice of length. Where are all these 7ft tall women things seem to be made for? As for petite ranges, I am short not petite (far from it!)

DrCoconut · 09/04/2015 21:00

To clarify, the short = 30" is not referring to maternity, just general.
