And 35 Middle aged?

OP posts:
itsbetterthanabox · 07/04/2015 17:29

No 50's and 60's are middle aged and 70+ is old.

Pyjamaschocolateandwine · 07/04/2015 17:30

ilovesooty yes hopefully I won't.

Op how old are you? I am 50 and bet I am hotter than you chik!

swazza · 07/04/2015 17:30

When you look around at people there do not seem to be as many "elderley people" about.

There are probably alot more "older" people but with a much younger outlook and lifestyle than people of the equivalent age 30 plus years ago.

I know loads of people mid 60's who seem to have loads more energy than me (40's).

Try watching that programme OP on C5 I think "OAPS behaving badly"!!

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 07/04/2015 17:30

I'm 46 so 'middle aged' but I don't feel it mentally or physically., in my head I'm still 35.

Does that help?

Gruntfuttock · 07/04/2015 17:31

How is it sexist? Confused

SoleSource · 07/04/2015 17:31

Age is measured in spirit not years.

YABU

DuchessDisaster · 07/04/2015 17:31

I think it is attitude of mind, possibly coupled with physical fitness.
To use the old cliche, age is a number.
Given the general improvement in the population's overall health, less manual labour than earlier generations etc. I certainly wouldn't call 60 "old-aged".
I know very "young" 80+ year olds and a very old "41" year old, so it is impossible to generalise.

Icimoi · 07/04/2015 17:31

ODFOD. If 60 is old, what on earth does that make 70,80, 100?

Snottybiyatch · 07/04/2015 17:32

Good for you Dowser...me too and you know what , it is HEAPS better than when I was younger. Hope you can say the same (I'm sure you can!)

A little while back I heard Shirley Conran (now 80+) being interviewed about being sexually active and was asked when it came to an end and she just said 'I'll let you know (if) when it happens' It was she who said life is too short to stuff a mushroom. How right she was!! Grin

I am guessing from your username OP that you are 35...you'll learn! Wink

AdeleDazeem · 07/04/2015 17:32

I don't know so I'll have to refer to my good friends, the doctors Crane;

Frasier I'm hardly middle aged, middle aged is like 50/55.
Niles Only if you live to be a hundred and ten.

ephemeralfairy · 07/04/2015 17:33

Jesus wept. I am 34 and my mum is 70. I would still describe myself as 'young-ish' and I don't think she's 'old' at all!! She's still working in a senior role and is planning to do a PhD (if she ever retires...)
Fuck off with your ageism.

LayMeDown · 07/04/2015 17:34

My Dad died a few months ago. He was 63. His death was a result of an accident. I and everyone else who knew him considered that he had been robbed of many more years. He was full of life and energy with huge plans for the future. It never occurred to me he would die anytime soon because he was not old. So yeah YABU.

Box5883284322679964228 · 07/04/2015 17:34

Old age to me begins about 68/70 when everything slows down.

JigsawsAreAllLittlePieces · 07/04/2015 17:34

My husband is 61 and he's definitely not old.

I'm 46 and I don't feel middle-aged, either!

FenellaFellorick · 07/04/2015 17:34

If you go by the biblical 3 score years and 10 then yes, 35 is half of 70 so is the middle of your life = middle aged and 60 is 10 years off your allotted time so could reasonably be called elderly.

But that's really out of date because people live longer in the uk these days. what is it atm? 80? so middle aged as a mathematical sum would be 40 and old age would be 70.

It's just maths really. The halfway point is the middle. If you look at is as a numbers game then I am middle aged. I'm 41. I don't care. It's not an insult.

Dowser · 07/04/2015 17:35

I'm saying nowt....lol!

But some days it's hard to wipe the smile off my face ;-)

Box5883284322679964228 · 07/04/2015 17:35

42 for middle age

MiniTheMinx · 07/04/2015 17:36

I used to think 35 was old, but I was a kid
I now think 55 plus is middle aged because I am 40
and 70 plus is elderly
All the oldies in this family are still hanging on into their 90s though

SuggestmeaUsername · 07/04/2015 17:37

60 is not old. why are you asking?

MrsFlannel · 07/04/2015 17:38

Agree about 45 being middle aged. But that's because I'm 42! Grin I feel young...my neighbour is 27 and I've sort of seen her as a peer but recently I realised she sees me as old!

She'll learn! Ha ha!

iwantgin · 07/04/2015 17:38

At 46 I do NOT consider myself middle aged. Nowhere near.

I don't physically feel different to been a teen. In fact I am possibly fitter now.

Old to me is 80+. I'll be happy to be old for 20 years Grin

Pyjamaschocolateandwine · 07/04/2015 17:39

grunt assuming the op is talking about women but either way it's a stupid statement.

Makes me chuckle as out most difficult times was 20s having 4 kids and mortgage etc.

Me and dh are now 50 and can afford to dress better, party harder and look a hell of a lot better.

It's bloody great. Grin

On a serious note you are very lucky to get to any age never mind middle age op so stop being a bit of a dick and enjoy life.

It can snuff out in an instant at any age.

MrsMook · 07/04/2015 17:39

My MIL gets fed up of the oldies moaning about their aches and ailments. They're in their 60s... she's 83, mentally alert and up to date with what's going on. That's half the battle. She's still physically active which is the other half.

I've known people who looked and were mentally middle aged at 27.

I won't be middle aged at 35. I'm nearly there and had great fun playing on a slide yesterday Grin

Musicaltheatremum · 07/04/2015 17:39

Mini, wait until you get to 51 then of course 60 will be middle aged. You're as old as you feel. :-)

wobblebobblehat · 07/04/2015 17:39

No, it's not although ordinarily I wouldn't waste the time thinking about it.

I guess you probably also think that when people turn 60 they should start wearing grey nylon macs and headscarfs... Hmm
